“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Sin—such a small word, yet it carries immense consequences. Reflect on the turmoil in your own life stemmed from sin, and consider the broader issues in the world caused by the sins of others—wars, violence, theft, apathy, and jealousy. The list is endless. There’s a saying, “Sin is the seed, and death is the harvest.” The Bible speaks extensively about sin, revealing that it encompasses not only our wrongdoings but also our failures to act with love, generosity, and kindness.
If we were perfect, never committing wrong and always doing right, sin would not be a concern for us. “Wow, that really helps!” some might think. However, the reality is that we are all sinners…
Yet, the Bible provides guidance on how to manage our past sins as well as those we confront in the present and future. It’s simpler than you might imagine. Wondering about “past sins”? The answer is clear: seek forgiveness.
“But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts.” (1 John 1:9-10)
What about our current struggles with sin? Hebrews encourages us to “strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up,” and to “run with endurance the race God has set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
We achieve this by focusing on Jesus, our guide and perfecter of faith. Here’s an empowering truth to hold onto, even on April Fool’s Day: Don’t tell God you have a big sin problem; instead, remind your sin problem that you have a Big God. Focus on life, reflect on Jesus, and keep your eyes fixed on Him.
“While our missteps lead us to darkness, the true light shines in the gift of grace, offering us the promise of everlasting life through love and redemption.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for bearing my sins. I acknowledge the wrongs I have done and the good I have neglected. I confess my sins to You and ask for Your forgiveness. (Take a moment to confess your sins, both in action and in spirit.) Thank You, Lord, for assisting me with my past and present sins. Help me to focus not on my shortcomings but on my Savior, Jesus. Empower me to rise above the burdens of sin and to live the life You have destined for me. I am grateful for Your divine strategy in addressing my sin. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
