November 1st 2019 – Why Would God Choose Us (Part 3 of 5)

The next person that I want us to look at in this series is Rahab.  Her story is found in Joshua 2.

You see, the Bible doesn’t give the occupation of every person, but it does tell us hers.  Rehab was a prostitute and yet God sent the spies to her house, I believe that the reason He did is because He saw that she had a pure heart, a heart of faith.  Here is what the Bible says about her.

“Then Joshua secretly sent out two spies from the Israelite camp at Acacia Grove. He instructed them, “Scout out the land on the other side of the Jordan River, especially around Jericho.” So the two men set out and came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there that night. (Joshua 2:1)

Then we see in Hebrews that she is in the Hall of Faith with other great men and women of God.  (Hebrews 11:31) It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed with the people in her city who refused to obey God.   For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.

The thing that is so amazing is that she is in the lineage of Jesus.  That’s right, an ex-prostitute is in the line of Jesus.  See it for yourself. (Matthew 1:1) “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: (Matthew 1:5) Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse,”

So you see that even when life throws you a lemon, you can go ahead and make lemonade with God’s strength.  We don’t know why she started in this lifestyle, all I know is that if you let God be God in your life, He can take the lowest part of you and make it His highest.

So today, don’t look at where you have come from, look at where you’re going to go.  With God on your side, how can you lose?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, If you are for me, how can I lose? Today, please take my low points and turn them into great opportunities to help others. I thank You that my steps are ordered by You, and that You Lord will open the good doors for me and shut the bad ones. I trust You and am so grateful for all that You do in my life., in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Never forger that God wants to free you, and save you of the slavery of sin. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, please click here to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

October 31st 2019 – Why Would God Choose Us (Part 2 of 5)

Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

We looked at King David yesterday. Even though his father rejected him, God didn’t, and when it was time for Him to come to the next step, he was ready.  We see this in the great story of David and Goliath.  When David came to where the children of Israel were fighting the Philistines, he was immediately put down by his older brother.

“Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.” (1 Samuel 17:28-30)

David didn’t let this discourage him.  He moved on with what he knew he had to do.  It should be the same with us.  There will be times that even our family members might not understand why we believe the way we do, but we need to be true to God and we will see that He will get us right where He wants us to be.

Discouragement will always come and at times it might come from where we least expect it, but we need to know that even like David, God is with us.  He promised He will never leave us or forsake us.  So today, if you feel discouraged or that no one understands, let me say this, “GOD DOES” and He will see that you get to the promised land that He has for you.

Remember, people look at the outside, but God looks at the inside.  Keep your heart pure, serve Him and watch Him line everything up in your life and get you into a position for success.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, My feet are ordered by You and I know that You will get me into the right place at the right time.  You guide my footsteps and my trust is in You. My faith is in You Lord, it gives me all the confidence I need. I love You, I paise You and trust You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Invitation:

If you are ready to ask Jesus into you life please pray the prayer with me below.

God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that way will eventually lead to death. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge that Your Son Jesus Christ gave His life for me on the cross at Calvary. I ask humbly to receive the forgiveness You have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer please email me and let me know I would love to set up a time and pray with you. roblavallee@gmail.com

October 22nd 2019 – Do Everything In Love

“Let all that you do be done with love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

In 1 Corinthians 16:14, we find such a simple command. Simply put, we are to do everything with love. While this may appear simple in direction, it’s not simple in action. Because we are broken vessels in an evil world, it can be difficult to do everything with love. After all, our first reaction is to preserve ourselves. Our emotions, our lives, our stuff; these are the things we strive to maintain at all cost… and love demands we lose them for the sake of others.

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

As Christians, we are no longer slaves to ourselves. We have been freed to love others just as Christ loved us. He is our great example as well as our strength. We cannot love rightly on our own. We must depend on Jesus. So next time someone causes you to see red, look to the cross of Christ and the blood that He shed for you. He died for us when we didn’t deserve it so now we can forgive others even when they don’t deserve it.

“You’re not living until you give your life away and start to love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for Your love and grace. Because You loved me, I am able to love others in every circumstance. Give me strength to walk in obedient love and to look for opportunities to care for others around me. As Your love increases in me, may my selfishness decrease. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

October 18th 2019 – Teach Me to Love Like Jesus

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” (John 14:28)

Have you ever showed attitude toward someone? Maybe a cheek or a cold shoulder? We treat people with whatever emotion and feelings we have at that very moment. Sometimes we’re sad and seek comfort from those around us. Other times we’re just angry and all we want to do is find someone to blame and take our anger out on. But the worst feeling of all? Not feeling loved and not wanting to love in return. Lucky for us, we have Jesus who taught us how to love and how to treat others. How did Jesus love? Let’s see.

“If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”. (Phillipians 2:1-11)

How do you treat the people around you?

Take a moment to think about this for each of the following categories: family, friends, neighbors, random classmates, strangers, your teacher or you boss.

How did Jesus treat others?

How did Jesus treat those times of anguish and pain? How encouraged are you to live with that loving mindset?

I will say that, for myself, I don’t always treat others right. Sometimes I feel spiteful. Sometimes I feel lonely or hurt. Other times I’m just angry and or just wretched. So what can you do when you’re in that state? Going to God isn’t always option 1, but it should be. Paul instructs us to do nothing out of selfish ambition, but to do things with others’ interest in mind. I know I don’t always “consider others better than myself”. Or I don’t treat them like I should.

But think about Jesus. He took all that pain and lowered himself to the standing of a servant. He loved and he served. He saved and then, He lived. That’s how we must live. There’s a song that goes something like this; “We live, we love, we forgive and never give up, cause the days we are given are gifts from above, so today remember to Love.

“Jesus gave us the commandment to Love one another. As He has loved us, so we need lto show compassion and love to others. If you dont know how, ask Jesus to teach you to love like He does.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, you are so awesome, you never cease to amaze me. I praise you for my wife, my family and my friends that express their love into my life everyday. Please teach me to live my life by loving others like You Love me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

October 3rd 2019 – Love God, Love Others

“A new command I give to you, love one another, as I have loved you, so you you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)

Christians can really be mean to each other. We are quick to point out faults. We gossip and envy one another. It is not a pretty picture, yet Jesus says when we love each other, the world will know that we belong to Him.

So, how do we fix this? I professor of mine taught on these two verses, he said, “Look. This is a new commandment. This is not just an idea of Christians loving each other just like Christ loved us. This is a commandment. It’s not a suggestion. We are to love one another.”

If you have you given your life to Christ, you realized at some point that your life was on the wrong path. And you turned and said, “Jesus is the right path.”You agreed to Him being the boss. So you said, “Thank you for saving me, but also thank You for being in charge of me now. I submit to Your commands.” So we are commanded, it’s not optional, that we as Christians love each other. He died for us, and He forgives us unconditionally. And He gives us chance after chance, and grace after grace. Then we mess up again and what does He do? He comes and holds us close to Him. Why can’t we love each other like that and say, “You know what? I know that you’re a mess, so am I” and then show them we love them as Jesus showed us?

Jesus is so concerned about us being right with each other that He said, “It’s better for you to stop worshiping and ask forgiveness than it is just to keep worshiping and doing your church thing.” Is there somebody you need to forgive? Somebody you struggle to love? Get it right, so folks outside the church can say, “Those people really love each other. I guess that’s what it means to be a Christian.”

“Be so busy loving God and loving others that you have no time for regret, worry, fear or drama.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Teach me to love, Lord, as You love, Make it unconditional, honest, and kind, To ask nothing back in return, Lord, To encompass the whole of mankind. May I offer my love without speaking, May it radiate as it shines forth from me, May it be seen in my face and my eyes, Lord, May it be simple, sincere, and shame free. Show me how to forgive, Lord, as You do, To not burden another with guilt, To not play the role of the martyr, To be a rock on which trust may be built. Make my love for others be greater by far Than any love that is offered to me, Led by the Spirit, Inspired of God, As forgiving as Jesus…and free. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

October 1st 2019 – Love Song

I am continually amazed and grateful for the many ways God demonstrates His love to us. During my devotional time, I began to make a list of them and want to share them with you. I pray that you’ll be blessed as you are reminded of His great love.

He does not change. “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6)

His love is always sure. Seasons change, people change, the world is changing, but God never changes. We can rely on Him.

“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” (Psalm 36:5)

He is faithful. God is not moody or fickle. We are. People will love you for a while and then they don’t. But God is not like that. He sticks with you.

Whenever He asks us to obey Him, He also provides everything we need.”

“You can trust the One who calls you to do that for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

He is our protector. He is our shield. Our “always there” protector.

“So our hope is in the Lord. He is our help, our shield to protect us.” (Psalm 33:20)

It is so comforting to know that everything that comes our way has to go through “the shield around us” before it touches us.

He is always thinking about us.

“How precious it is, Lord, to realize that you are thinking about me constantly! I can’t even count how many thoughts turn towards me.” (Psalm 139:17)

This is one of the neatest things. When you think about it–there are over 6 billion people in the world and He still thinks of you and me constantly. He is able to give us His undivided attention.

He is always with you. For He Himself has said,

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

He is never to busy for us. He never goes away, or takes breaks or a vacation.

When we are in trouble and think we are going under, we can be encouraged because,

“Underneath are His everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the amazing love You have shown me. Help me to grasp this love so that I will be equipped to love others in the same way. Strip me of any excuses and use me to reach others with the love of Jesus. We are so grateful for Your presence and direction in our lives.  Thank you, for loving and caring for us so much. Help us to love You more than we could ever comprehend. Thank you for your written word, the Bible is your love song. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Love will find a way. A lack of love will find an excuse.”

Don’t have Jesus in your life? Don’t put off Experiencing His Ultimate Love now.

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that He answered your prayer.

September 29th 2019 – Shaken But Not Forsaken

“How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? (Psalm 13:1-2)

At the beginning of Psalm 13 David feels that God has forsaken him. Has that ever happened to you? Do you let your problems make you despondent, discouraged, and disillusioned? Honestly, that couldn’t be further from the truth for those of us that have received the salvation of the Lord. We see David acknowledging this as he continues…

“But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.” (Psalm 13:5-6)

You see, when we accepted the sacrifice of Christ we received the forgiveness of sins and the promise that we’d never be forsaken by God. Jesus ultimately experienced separation from Father God for the first time on that cross on our behalf when He cried out “my God my God why have you forsaken me?” Now, once we realize in our heads and hearts this reality, our trust in His mercy causes us to rejoice in our salvation! Our eyes can now be enlightened by the Spirit of God to see how rich we truly are in Christ. Count those blessings friend and allow the Lord to encourage you with all He has done for you!

“Sometimes we forget what we should we remember, (the good done by someone, by others, sometimes by us) and remember what we should forget (the wrongs done by someone, by others, sometimes by us).”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for enduring all things for me on the cross. Thank You for never leaving or forsaking me. Please give me the power to remember the blessings that You have poured out into my life through Christ and help me to walk after You with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 28th 2019 – God’s Family

“But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.” (Galatians 1:11)

The Gospel changes everything. Not only does it change us, but it also unites us with other believers. Many of the differences that may have divided us before, fall away because of the love of Christ. This is why it is so important to meet together locally at church, and personally with each other. When we grow in unity with one another, it blesses our life and is a great picture to our community.

Where does this unity come from exactly? Well, we believe similar things, we share close to the same value system in love God, love people. In addition, we believe God created the earth and sky. Many people may think we are different because we have different skin colors, ways of dressing or ways of making a living? Unity may even be dependent on whether or not we have ink or tattoos on our body? But no matter what you look like or how you may have been raised in Jesus, we are called “one body”. As the body of Christ, we are a family that seeks to love unconditionally no matter how different we may be.

“When we meet together, we encourage each other with acts of love and fellowship..”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the church. Thank You for bringing me together with brothers and sisters in Christ. While I know I am not perfect, help me to love others equally and to encourage others no matter the differences. In You, the church is united. Please help me to remember that no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 25th 2019 – Unlimited Resource

“He who scatters has come up before your face. Man the fort! Watch the road! Strengthen your flanks! Fortify your power mightily.” (Nahum 2:1)

Tests and trials are a part of life and often push us to our limits in so many ways. During these times, what do you turn to? Do you first run to others seeking those who feel the same way you do? Do you find yourself to be anxious because you are constantly looking down the road of life waiting for the next attack? Maybe you run to your money or addiction to seek answers or comfort. Whatever the case may be, the truth is, when we do not run to God first, we will not last long.

As followers of Christ, we have the unlimited resource of wisdom and power available to anyone. He is our Father God and He desires to help us in times of need. We may be able to limp along on our own wisdom and strength for a time, but when we trust in the Lord’s strength and His infinite wisdom, we will never grow weary. Today you will encounter difficult situations. Don’t be surprised by them but simply use them as an excuse to draw closer to God. Need wisdom? Ask the Father. Desire strength? Find it in Jesus.

“When you aew faced with a problem, seek God first before relying on your own wisdom or strength.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your generous love for me. I am so grateful that I can run to You in times of need and You will hear my cry. Father, I ask for Your strength and wisdom today. No matter where I find myself I ask that You would guide my steps and use me for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

September 24th 2019 – The Path That God Leads Us Down

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Keep walking along the path God has chosen for you. Your desire to live close to Him is a delight to the Lords heart. He could grant the riches of our spiritual desires, but that may not be what God has for you or me. Together with God we can forge a pathway up this high and mighty mountain in front of us.

The journey may be arduous at times and we may become week, soon with Gods help we will be to the top of that mountain. But for now, sometimes our walk is difficult and heavy. All He requires from us to do is take the next step, clinging to His hand for strength and direction.

We will never know what is around the bend if we stray from our path, stay on the path that God has selected for you, you are closer then you know to where God wants to lead you.

Focus your attention on the path just ahead of you, and on the One that never leaves your side.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please continue to guide and direct our steps as we walk down life’s path. May we always seek you over all distractions. I praise you and all you have done in my life. I am so blessed that you love me and continue to guide me on my path. May I be receptive to Your direction, seeking You always at each fork on life’s path. I choose to seek and follow You on the path to where You Lord have destined me to be. I know that you have such wonderful plans for our lives and want us to reach our destiny, Amen.
