May 29th 2026 – Stop Living Off of Yesterday’s Bread

Scripture Reference:

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day… When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, ‘What is it?’ For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, ‘It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.'” (Exodus 16:4-5, 13-15)

Reflection:

In the wilderness, the Israelites faced a daily choice: to trust in God’s provision or rely on their own understanding. God provided manna each morning, fresh and nourishing, urging His people to gather only what they needed for that day. This lesson was not just about physical sustenance but a profound spiritual truth: we cannot thrive on yesterday’s blessings.

Imagine a person who once experienced a deep encounter with God. They remember the joy of that moment, the peace that flooded their heart, and the clarity that came with it. Yet, as days turn into weeks, they find themselves reminiscing about that moment rather than seeking new experiences of God. They live off of “yesterday’s bread,” missing the fresh manna God offers today.

Story:

Once, a man named David found himself in a spiritual drought. He recalled the vibrant days of his faith—a time when he felt God’s presence with him like a warm embrace. But as time passed, he stopped seeking that connection. Instead, he relied on memories of past encounters, thinking they would sustain him.

One day, while on a walk, David saw a field of wildflowers swaying in the breeze. Each flower was unique, vibrant, and alive, reminding him of the beauty of God’s creation. He felt a nudge in his spirit: “Just as these flowers bloom anew each season, so too does my grace. Seek me daily; I have new mercies for you.”

That moment ignited a spark within him. David began to pray and read scripture daily again, allowing God to fill him with fresh revelations and strength. He learned that living off of yesterday’s bread only left him hungry and unfulfilled.

Application:

  1. Daily Seeking: Make it a habit to spend time with God every day. Whether through prayer, reading scripture, or simply sitting in silence, seek His presence anew.
  2. Letting Go of the Past: Acknowledge past experiences with God, but don’t let them define your current relationship. God is constantly inviting you into deeper intimacy.
  3. Trusting His Provision: Remember that just as God provided for the Israelites daily, He desires to meet your needs today. Trust that He has fresh blessings and revelations waiting for you.

As you go about your day, remember: God has something new for you today. Don’t settle for the leftovers of yesterday. Seek His fresh presence, and let Him nourish your soul anew.

“Don’t let yesterday’s blessings overshadow today’s opportunities; seek the fresh bread of God’s grace that nourishes your soul anew each day.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your unwavering love and daily provision. I acknowledge that there are times I cling to past experiences instead of seeking You in the present. Forgive me for living off of yesterday’s bread and for not trusting in Your ability to provide for my needs today.

Help me to cultivate a heart that yearns for You daily. Open my eyes to see the fresh mercies and opportunities You present each morning. Teach me to embrace the new blessings You have in store for me, whether in my relationships, my work, or my spiritual journey.

Guide me as I seek to deepen my relationship with You. May Your Spirit fill me with wisdom and understanding as I read Your Word and spend time in prayer. Help me to let go of the burdens of yesterday and to trust in Your goodness for today and tomorrow.

Thank You for the promise that Your grace is sufficient for me, and that You desire to draw me closer to You. May I always remember that each day is a gift, and in Your presence, I find true nourishment for my soul. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

March 13th 2026 – A Heart That Remembers: Cultivating Gratitude

Scripture Reference:

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:2)

Reflection:

In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to overlook the countless ways God has blessed us. The hustle of daily responsibilities can cloud our hearts and minds, leading us to forget the goodness of God. Yet, Psalm 103:2 reminds us of a powerful truth: to cultivate a heart of gratitude, we must remember.

When we take time to reflect on our lives, we can often trace God’s hand at work. From the gift of a new day to the love of family and friends, every blessing is a testament to His goodness. Gratitude grows when we actively remember these benefits. Consider setting aside a few moments each day to recount the ways God has intervened in your life.

One effective method to nurture a heart that remembers is keeping a gratitude journal. Each day, write down at least three things you are thankful for. This practice not only helps you remember God’s blessings but also trains your heart to focus on the positive. On challenging days, revisiting your journal can be a source of encouragement, reminding you of God’s unwavering faithfulness.

Incorporate a prayer of remembrance into your daily routine. Thank God for specific blessings, both big and small. This intentional act of gratitude can shift your perspective, helping you to see the goodness in your circumstances. A simple prayer could be:

“Lord, thank you for [specific blessings]. Help me to remember your goodness and to live in a spirit of gratitude every day.”

Sharing your testimony with others is another powerful way to remember God’s faithfulness. When you recount how God has worked in your life, it not only strengthens your own heart but also encourages those around you. Community is vital in keeping our spirits uplifted and our hearts focused on gratitude.

A heart that remembers is a heart that thrives in gratitude. As we reflect on God’s benefits, journal our blessings, engage in prayer, and share our testimonies, we cultivate a deeper relationship with Him. Let us not forget His faithfulness but instead, praise Him daily for all He has done.

“Gratitude is the bridge that connects our hearts to the memories of God’s faithfulness, reminding us that every blessing, big or small, is a reflection of His love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We come before You with hearts filled with gratitude. Thank You for the countless blessings You have poured into our lives—both seen and unseen. Help us to remember Your goodness in every moment, especially during times of trial and uncertainty.

May our hearts be ever mindful of Your faithfulness, as we strive to live in a spirit of thankfulness. Teach us to share our stories of Your grace with others, encouraging them to see Your hand at work in their lives too.

Guide us to express our gratitude not just in words, but through our actions, reflecting Your love to those around us. We ask for Your strength to cultivate a heart that remembers, allowing our gratitude to deepen our relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

April 18th 2025 – The Importance of Gratitude

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it can be easy to overlook the simple yet profound act of gratitude. We often find ourselves caught up in what we lack or what isn’t going right, forgetting the countless blessings that surround us each day. However, when we intentionally choose to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, we open our hearts to transformation.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (Psalm 107:1)

Gratitude is not merely a response to receiving good things; it is a posture of the heart that acknowledges God’s goodness, love, and provision, even amidst trials. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, we are called to give thanks in all circumstances. This is not always easy. Life can throw challenges our way that seem insurmountable, leading us to question God’s goodness. Yet, it is precisely in these moments that gratitude can act as a lifeline, reminding us of the larger story that God is weaving in our lives.

Reflecting on my own journey, I remember a particularly difficult season when everything seemed to go wrong. It felt as though I was walking through a dense fog, unsure of what lay ahead. In my despair, I turned to God in prayer, pouring out my heart and seeking His comfort. It was during this time that I felt the gentle nudge to start writing about what I was greatful in my journal. Each day, I would write down three things for which I was thankful. At first, it felt like a chore, but as I persisted, I began to notice the beauty that was emerging from the ashes of my struggles.

I found gratitude in the small things: the warmth of the sun on my face, a friend’s encouraging message, the laughter of children playing in the park. With each entry, my heart began to shift. I realized that even in the darkest moments, God was present, showering me with blessings that I had previously overlooked. This practice not only lifted my spirits but also deepened my relationship with God, as I became more aware of His constant presence and care.

When we embrace gratitude, we begin to see life through a different lens. It shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have, fostering a spirit of contentment and joy. Our interactions with others also flourish. A grateful heart is a generous heart, one that shares love, kindness, and encouragement. We become beacons of hope in a world that often feels heavy and burdensome.

As we embark on this journey of gratitude, let us remember Psalm 107:1, which reminds us to give thanks to the Lord for His enduring love. Gratitude is not merely an act; it is a way of life—one that transforms our hearts and minds. “

“Commit to practicing thankfulness daily, allowing it to shape our perspective and draw us closer to God.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the countless blessings You have bestowed upon us. Help us to cultivate a spirit of gratitude in our hearts, even in the midst of challenges. May we learn to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances, knowing that Your love endures forever. Open our eyes to see the beauty around us and fill our hearts with thankfulness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
