August 26th 2026 – Trusting God When We Don’t Understand

Scripture Reference:

“Casting all your cares on Him, because He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Reflection:

We often find it easy to trust God when life is smooth sailing—when bills are paid, and promotions are received. But what happens when everything feels uncertain? When God asks us to let go of the familiar and venture into the unknown? In those moments of confusion and pain, will we still trust Him?

Many of us have faced seasons where God has stripped away our comforts, urging us into unfamiliar territory. We may feel lost and unsure, holding onto a word from God—a promise or instruction—that seems distant. If you’re feeling this way, you’re not alone. Here are four key reminders to guide you through the uncertainty:

1. Consider the Source

    “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last” (Revelation 22:13).

    Only God possesses this eternal perspective. His understanding transcends our limited view. When struggling to trust, ask yourself: Are you depending on God or your own understanding? Humans are fallible; we can mislead ourselves and others. God, however, is faithful and true. He keeps His promises and provides clear guidance.

    Remember, if God is with you—the same God who created you and knows your future—nothing can stand against you. Trust in His provisions, even when the path ahead is unclear.

    2. Trust the Lord

    “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).

    Learning to trust God gives you a sense of peace, knowing He’s in control, even when life feels chaotic. This trust isn’t about avoiding discomfort; it’s about seeking God’s presence and guidance during challenging times. Make the conscious choice to rely on Him, even when fear creeps in.

    3. Be Obedient

    “Obedience is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22).

    God values obedience over ritualistic acts of worship. Just like Abraham, who left everything familiar without knowing where he was headed, we too must choose to obey, even when the path isn’t clear. Abraham could have easily questioned God’s plan, but he chose faith and action. We are called to do the same.

    4. Have Faith in the Lord

    “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that He would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).

    God doesn’t always reveal the full plan upfront. Sometimes, He asks us to take one step at a time. As we obey, our faith deepens. Trusting in God is a journey that requires us to move forward, even when we can’t see the whole picture.

    I encourage you to share your experiences below if you feel led. Remember, even if life feels overwhelming, God will reveal pieces of the puzzle as you step out in faith, trust, and obedience.

    “If you can trust God to save you for eternity, you can trust Him to lead you for a lifetime.”

    Prayer:

    Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and wisdom in times of uncertainty. I thank You for Your unwavering love and faithfulness, even when I find it hard to understand the path You’ve laid out for me. Help me to embrace the unknown with courage, knowing that You are my constant companion.

    Lord, instill within me a spirit of obedience. May I be sensitive to Your voice, ready to follow Your instructions, even when they lead me away from my comfort zone. Teach me to trust in Your plans, even when they don’t align with my own desires or understanding. Help me to remember that Your ways are higher than my ways, and Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

    When fear and doubt creep in, remind me of the countless times You have guided and provided for me. Fill me with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, allowing me to rest in the assurance that You are in control. Help me to lean not on my own understanding, but to place my trust entirely in You.

    As I navigate life’s challenges, I ask for Your strength to endure. Grant me patience and resilience when I feel overwhelmed. Help me to know that it’s okay to feel lost at times, but I must not lose sight of Your promises. May Your Word be my anchor, guiding me through the storms of life.

    I also lift up those around me who are struggling—whether they are facing physical, emotional, or spiritual battles. Lord, surround them with Your love and comfort. Help them to seek You wholeheartedly, finding hope and healing in Your presence. May they experience the depth of Your grace and the power of Your provision.

    Thank You for the clarity You will bring, piece by piece, as I trust and obey You. I know that I do not walk this journey alone, for You are with me every step of the way. I surrender my worries and cares to You, confident that You are orchestrating every detail of my life for my good and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

    August 24th 2026 – Quieting the Chaos: Four Steps to Hear God’s Voice

    “So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” (Exodus 34:28)

    Reflection:

    In Exodus 34:28, we find Moses on Mount Sinai, where he spent 40 days and nights in the presence of God. This period was not just about receiving the Ten Commandments; it was a time for Moses to silence his mind and allow God’s voice to fill the space.

    In our fast-paced, noise-filled lives, we often find ourselves begging God for direction, only to feel overwhelmed by silence. Yet, it’s through quiet moments that God speaks most clearly, often in whispers rather than thunderclaps. Here are four things we need to quit in order to hear Him more clearly.

    1. Quit Filling Every Silence with Your Phone

    The moment silence creeps in, how many of us instinctively reach for our phones? Whether it’s scrolling through social media or listening to podcasts, we fill every quiet moment with noise. However, as we see in 1 Kings 19:11-12, God wasn’t in the wind, earthquake, or fire; He was in the still, small voice. If we can’t sit in silence for just five minutes, we risk missing the whispers of God. Create sacred spaces of silence where you can tune into His voice without distractions.

    2. Quit Asking Everyone Else Before Asking God

    In the quest for guidance, we often turn to friends, family, or Google before seeking God. While wisdom can come from many sources, James 1:5 reminds us to ask God first for wisdom. By the time we finally pray, we’ve often been influenced by numerous opinions, drowning out the still, small voice of God. Make a habit of seeking God first, allowing Him to shape your decisions before turning to others.

    3. Quit Only Praying and Never Listening

    Many of us treat prayer as a one-way conversation: we unload our worries, requests, and problems, then say “Amen” and move on. But prayer should be a dialogue, not a monologue. The day I started finishing my prayers with a moment of silence—just listening for God’s response—was the day I began to truly hear Him. Cultivate the practice of listening after you pray; it’s in those quiet moments that you may encounter His voice.

    4. Quit Dismissing Gentle Nudges as Just Your Thoughts

    Often, the gentle nudges we feel—whether to text a friend, pray for someone, or hold back a comment—are God’s way of speaking to us. I used to brush these off as mere thoughts of my own. Yet, many times, God’s voice sounds like our own thoughts, whispering His guidance. When I stopped dismissing these nudges and began to act on them, I realized God had been communicating with me all along. Embrace those gentle urgings; they may be the guidance you’ve been seeking.

    The journey to hearing God requires intentionality and a willingness to remove distractions. By quitting these four habits, we can create space for God’s voice to resonate in our hearts. Just like Moses on the mountain, we need time to silence our minds and listen. The moment we remove the noise, we can finally hear the whispers of a God who has been speaking to us all along.

    As you go about your day today, consider what distractions you need to eliminate in your life. What step will you take this week to create space for God’s voice?

    “Silence is not an absence; it’s an invitation to hear the whispers of God. Only when we quiet the noise can we truly tune in to His divine guidance.”

    Prayer:

    Heavenly Father, Thank You for the promise that You are always speaking to us, even in the silence. I confess that I often fill my life with distractions, drowning out Your voice with noise and chaos. Help me to embrace stillness and seek Your guidance first in all things. Teach me to listen actively, to recognize Your gentle nudges, and to trust that You are leading me in the right direction.

    As I make space for You in my life, empower me to quiet my mind and heart, so I can hear You clearly. May my prayers become conversations, where I not only speak but also listen for Your wisdom. Help me to act on the nudges You give me, recognizing them as Your loving guidance.

    Thank You for Your patience and love. I am eager to hear from You and to follow where You lead. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

    August 16th 2026 – The Power of True Repentance – A Modern Parable

    “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)

    The Story:

    In a quaint village, there lived a man named Jack. He was known for his warm smile and friendly demeanor, but he had a peculiar habit. Time and again, he would unintentionally hurt the people around him. Whether it was by speaking too harshly, borrowing things without returning them, or forgetting important commitments, Jack’s actions often left a trail of hurt feelings.

    Each time he realized his mistake, Jack would rush to apologize, saying, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” His neighbors, though forgiving at first, began to feel the weight of his repeated offenses. Despite his sincerity, the endless cycle of wrongdoing and apologies wore thin on their patience.

    One day, after hurting his friend Sarah yet again, Jack approached her with a heavy heart. “I can’t believe I’ve done this again. I promise I’ll do better,” he pleaded.

    Sarah, feeling the burden of Chris’s actions, looked him in the eye and said, “Jack, it’s not enough to just say you’re sorry. You need to change your actions. Apologies without change feel empty.”

    Jack was taken aback. He had always thought that his apologies were enough. Reflecting on Sarah’s words, he realized that he needed to take a different approach. Instead of merely saying sorry, he needed to show genuine care and consideration for others.

    2. The Meaning of Repentance: Repentance is not just feeling sorry; it’s a commitment to alter our behavior. It’s about aligning our hearts with God’s will and seeking His strength to transform us.
    3. Building Trust: As Jack learned, consistent change over time helps rebuild trust. Those we’ve hurt need to see evidence of our repentance, which can help restore relationships.
    4. Encouragement for Others: When we demonstrate genuine change, we can inspire others. Our journey can become a testament to God’s grace and transformative power.

    “Then he told this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, “For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?” “Sir,” the man replied, “leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’” (Luke 13:6-9)

    Reflection:

    The Parable of the Fig Tree serves as a poignant reminder of God’s patience and grace in our lives. In this story, the fig tree represents not only the people of Israel but also all of humanity, illustrating our potential for spiritual growth and fruitfulness. The vineyard owner’s frustration symbolizes God’s expectation for us to bear fruit—fruits of love, kindness, faithfulness, and righteousness that reflect His character. This parable invites us to examine our own lives: Are we merely taking up space in the garden of God’s creation, or are we actively cultivating the gifts and opportunities He has provided? It challenges us to reflect on what it means to be fruitful in our faith and how we can align our lives more closely with God’s will.

    Reflection:

    As the days grow shorter and the light of the sun fades earlier, we are reminded of the profound truths spoken by Jesus about the end times. In Matthew 24, Jesus warns us of the trials and tribulations that will come, emphasizing the urgency of the days we live in.

    This concept of shortened days takes on a deeper meaning as we consider God’s sovereign plan. It serves as a reminder that our time on Earth is limited, prompting us to live with intention and purpose. The shortening of days is not merely a natural phenomenon but a divine indication of His grace, allowing us the opportunity to turn our hearts towards Him. This period invites us to reflect on our spiritual readiness and the importance of staying vigilant in our faith as we await His return.

    Reflection:

    Loneliness is a profound and often painful experience that can touch anyone, regardless of their circumstances. It’s not just the absence of physical company; it’s a deep-seated feeling of isolation that can persist even when surrounded by others. Many individuals grapple with feelings of loneliness, especially when they miss loved ones, whether children, friends, or family. This yearning can create a sense of emptiness that seems insurmountable.

    As Christians, we are reminded that even in our solitude, we are never truly alone. God walks with us through our darkest moments, offering comfort and companionship. Loneliness can serve as an opportunity for growth, prompting us to seek deeper connections with God and others. It can also be a moment of reflection, allowing us to evaluate our spiritual journey and our relationships.

    1. Acknowledge Your Feelings:
    • It’s essential to recognize and accept your feelings of loneliness. Ignoring these emotions can lead to deeper sadness. God created us for community, so it’s natural to crave connection.
    • Reflect on your feelings through prayer. Bring your loneliness before God, sharing your burdens and heartache.

    • In moments of loneliness, turn to God in prayer and scripture. Spend time in His Word; it can be a source of strength and encouragement.

    Reflection:

    In the book of Exodus, God commands Moses to tell Pharaoh, “Let my people go.” Despite the plagues unleashed upon Egypt, Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened. As a final act of judgment, God sends the angel of death to strike down the firstborn of every household. Yet, He provides a means of escape for the Israelites through the sacrificial lamb.

    Key Instructions:

    • Selection of the Lamb: God instructs the Israelites to choose a perfect, blemish-free lamb. This act signifies the importance of purity in the sacrifice.
    • Anointing of the Lamb:
    • Six Days Before Passover: The lamb’s feet are anointed with oil, symbolizing its readiness to serve and walk in obedience to God.
    • Two Days Before Passover: The lamb’s head is anointed, signifying its freedom from blemish and readiness for sacrifice.

    As the Israelites prepare for the impending judgment, they are instructed to apply the lamb’s blood to their doorframes using a bunch of hyssop. This act of faith ensures that the angel of death passes over their homes, sparing their firstborns.

    Parallels in the New Testament

    Fast forward to the New Testament, where the significance of the Passover lamb finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ:

    • Anointing of Jesus: In John 12, Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume six days before Passover, recognizing Him as the coming sacrifice. This act mirrors the anointing of the lamb, signifying His purity and readiness for what lies ahead.
    • Final Anointing: In Matthew 26, just two days before His crucifixion, Jesus is anointed again. This signifies His role as the blemish-free Lamb destined to take away the sins of the world.

    The Hyssop Connection:

    As Jesus hangs on the cross, He cries out, “I am thirsty.” A sponge soaked in wine vinegar is lifted to His lips on a branch of hyssop. This connection to the Exodus story emphasizes that just as the blood of the Passover lamb saved the Israelites, the blood of Jesus—the perfect Lamb—covers us from eternal death.

    In reflecting on the anointing of the lamb and the sacrifice of Christ, we recognize the depth of God’s love for us. Just as the blood of the lamb offered protection and deliverance, the blood of Jesus provides eternal salvation for all who believe.

    As you meditate on this devotion, consider how the themes of purity, sacrifice, and redemption resonate in your life. How can you embody the lessons from the Passover story and Christ’s sacrifice in your daily walk of faith?

    “Just as the blood of the lamb marked the doorways of the faithful, so too does the sacrifice of Christ mark our hearts with His grace, securing our eternal safety and inviting us to walk in His light.”

    Prayer:

    Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, thankful for the incredible gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for the perfect Lamb who was sacrificed for our sins. Help us to fully grasp the depth of Your love as demonstrated through His blood that covers us and grants us eternal life.

    May we always remember the significance of the Passover and how it points to Jesus as our ultimate deliverer. Lord, instill in us a desire to walk in obedience, just as the Israelites followed Your commands. Empower us to live lives that reflect Your love and grace to those around us.

    Help us to share the message of salvation with others so that they too may find refuge under the blood of the Lamb. May we continuously seek Your guidance, allowing Your Holy Spirit to lead us in every step we take. Thank You for Your mercy and for the assurance that we are safe in Your care. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

    Reflection:

    In the tapestry of faith, one question has echoed through the ages: If God wanted everyone to understand the Bible, why didn’t He make it easier to understand? This question resonates deeply, not just among believers but among seekers of truth. Even Jesus’ own disciples grappled with this perplexity. They asked Him, “Why do you speak to us in parables? Why not just say it plainly?”

    Jesus’ response might catch us off guard. He explained that understanding the mysteries of the kingdom was given to those who truly sought it, while it was not given to those who had already closed their hearts. This isn’t about concealing the truth; rather, it’s about revealing a profound principle: parables serve a dual purpose. They unveil truth to those who earnestly desire to learn, while simultaneously concealing it from those who are indifferent.

    Consider this: the crowds heard stories, but the disciples sought deeper meaning. They lingered, asked questions, and listened intently. In this dynamic, we see Jesus’ heart. He isn’t merely interested in informing people; He desires to transform them. Knowledge alone can fill our minds, but it is understanding—rooted in a willing heart—that transforms our lives.

    Jesus often called out, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” This statement reminds us that while everyone has the physical ability to hear, not everyone is genuinely listening. The greatest barrier to understanding Scripture isn’t a lack of intelligence; it’s a lack of willingness. God is not hiding from those who truly seek Him. As Jeremiah reminds us, “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

    If you find parts of the Bible perplexing, don’t despair. Keep reading, keep praying, and most importantly, keep your heart open. Approach God with a willingness to obey, saying, “God, if You reveal this to me, I will follow.” This posture invites divine revelation and understanding.

    God is extending an invitation to seek Him earnestly. Remember, the journey to understanding is not a sprint but a marathon. Every step taken in faith brings us closer to His heart and His truth.

    “Understanding the Bible isn’t just about knowledge; it’s about the willingness to seek truth with an open heart, for in that pursuit, we find the very essence of God.”

    Prayer:

    Heavenly Father, Thank You for the incredible gift of Your Word, a treasure filled with truths waiting to be uncovered. I come before You with a humble heart, longing to understand the mysteries that lie within its pages. Help me to approach the Scriptures not just as ancient texts but as living words that speak to my soul.

    Lord, remove any barriers of doubt, confusion, or reluctance that might hinder my understanding. Grant me the patience to wrestle with difficult passages and the wisdom to seek guidance through prayer and reflection. As I read, may I be open to the nudges of the Holy Spirit, who leads me into deeper truth.

    I ask that You ignite a passionate desire within me to seek You wholeheartedly. May my quest for understanding transform my life and draw me closer to Your heart. Help me to listen with intent, to ask questions, and to seek answers, knowing that You delight in revealing Yourself to those who earnestly seek.

    Thank You for the promise that if I seek You, I will find You. I trust in Your faithfulness, and I commit to following wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

    August 5th 2026 – Eternity’s Perspective: Sharing Christ’s Gift

    Scripture Reflection:
    “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

    Reflection:

    For those of us that have put out faith in Jesus Christ, we can only imagine what it will be like when we get to heaven.

    As we envision our time in Heaven, we are filled with hope and anticipation. The moment we step into the presence of God, we will be enveloped by His love, joy, and peace. Imagine the warmth of hugs from loved ones who have gone before us—parents, grandparents, friends, and even acquaintances who walked with us in life.

    The joy of being reunited with those who shared our faith will be overwhelming. We will celebrate together, sharing stories of our earthly struggles and triumphs, and rejoicing in the presence of Christ.

    Picture the thrill of meeting long-past relatives, perhaps those who prayed for us from afar, or great-grandparents whose faith laid the foundation for our own. Their stories will inspire us, and we will see how God’s hand was evident throughout generations.

    In this glorious place, we will experience:

    • Joy and Peace: A profound sense of belonging and acceptance will fill our hearts.
    • Gratitude: We will be grateful for the gift of salvation, recognizing the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
    • Love and Connection: The bonds of love will be deeper than ever, untainted by earthly struggles or misunderstandings.

    Yet, as we embrace this heavenly joy, a sobering truth may weigh heavily on our hearts. We may find ourselves reflecting on those who did not come to know Christ during their lifetimes—neighbors, coworkers, friends.

    Missed Witnessing Opportunities:

    As we ponder missed connections, we must also consider the gift of free will that God has given each of us. Not everyone will see or accept the truth, but this shouldn’t discourage us from reaching out. Instead, it should motivate us to examine our own actions and intentions.

    Here are some questions we might ask ourselves:

    • Did we ever share our testimony with them?
    • Were we afraid of stepping over personal boundaries or concerned about how they might respond?
    • Did we invite them to church or engage them in conversations about faith?

    Reflecting on these questions can stir feelings of sorrow, knowing that we had the beautiful gift of salvation but may not have shared it with those around us.

    What Can We Do?

    1. Pray for Boldness: Ask God for courage to share your faith with those around you.
    2. Live Out Your Faith: Let your actions reflect Jesus’ love and grace; be a living testimony.
    3. Engage in Conversations: Take the opportunity to share your testimony. Ask open-ended questions about faith and listen attentively.
    4. Invite to Church: Extend invitations to those who may be curious about faith or seeking community.

    As we anticipate our time in Heaven, let us rejoice in the hope of reunion with loved ones and the joy of being in God’s presence. Simultaneously, let us not forget the urgency to share the Gospel with those who are still searching for the truth. May our hearts be burdened with love and compassion, prompting us to share the precious gift of salvation that Jesus offers to all.

    “In the light of eternity, let our hearts be burdened not by regret for what we missed, but ignited by the urgency to share the love of Christ with every soul we encounter.”

    Prayer:

    Heavenly Father, Thank You for the promise of eternal life with You and the joy of reunion with our loved ones. As we reflect on the precious gift of salvation that Jesus offers, we ask for Your guidance and strength. Help us to be bold in our faith, to step outside our comfort zones, and to share Your love with those around us.

    May our hearts be filled with compassion for those who do not yet know You, understanding that each interaction is an opportunity to witness to Your grace. Grant us the wisdom to recognize moments when we can share our testimony and the courage to invite others into Your presence.

    We pray for those in our lives who are searching for truth, that You would soften their hearts and open their eyes. Help us to trust in Your perfect timing and to remain steadfast in our mission to spread the Gospel. Thank You for Your unending love and for the hope we have in You. In Your precious name, Amen.

    August 1st 2026 – I Call You Friend

    “You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:14-15)

    Reflection:

    In this beautiful passage, Jesus redefines our relationship with Him. He transitions from calling us servants to friends, showing us that He desires a close and personal connection with each of us. Imagine the Creator of the universe inviting you into His inner circle! This isn’t just a title; it’s a profound privilege and responsibility.

    1. The Depth of Friendship:
    Jesus explains that friendship is built on knowledge and trust. While servants follow instructions, friends share their hearts and work together. Jesus reveals everything He learned from the Father, making us participants in His divine plan. This kind of revelation is not just for a select few; it’s for all who choose to follow Him.

    2. The Call to Obedience:
    The verse reminds us that our friendship with Christ is intertwined with obedience. It’s not about rigid rule-following but rather a heartfelt response to His love.
