March 5th 2020 – Help For The Hopeless

“Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.” (Ezra 10:4)

God may be the director of the universe, but He has given us power to make decisions. You have a decision to confess your sins to Him and to ask for His forgiveness. You have a decision whether to serve the Lord, give to the Lord or share the Gospel with others. No matter who you are, you have an opportunity to change the world through your decisions.

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

As you read this devotional, there is a world filled with people who desire peace. They desire love. They desire hope in something greater than the economy, the president or their own ability. As a follower of Christ, we can make the decision to share with them how to change their life and those things by sharing the Gospel. We can serve them. We can offer them our time, resources and compassion. God will empower us to do mighty things, but we must decide to do it. Choose this day who you will serve, and do it!

“You are not helpless or hopeless. Your destiny is in your hands and in the hands of a God that loves you and wants to bless and protect you.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I desire to choose You above everything else. I decide this day to serve You and to serve others. Give me a heart of compassion and a willingness to think of others before myself. God, use me to change the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 3rd 2020 – We Are Never Alone In Life’s Storms

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

When the Bible says that God will keep us, it doesn’t mean that He will always keep us from trouble. But it does mean that He will keep us while we’re in the midst of trouble.

When the Israelites saw the Egyptian army closing in on them at the Red Sea, God had allowed them to get into that situation. Why? It was so they would pray and see His glory on display. And then, when He answered them by opening up the Red Sea so they could walk through on dry ground, they saw that God walked with them through their difficulties.

God could have kept Daniel from the lion’s den. Instead, God kept Daniel in the lion’s den. God could have kept Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. Instead, God walked with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Jesus could have kept the disciples from all the storms on the Sea of Galilee. Instead, He was with them as they went through the storms.

Maybe you are in trouble right now. Maybe you are frightened and unsure about your future. You don’t know what is going to happen next. Know that you’re not alone. God is with you in the midst of your troubles.

Sometimes I think we believe that we have the right to live easy, tranquil lives, and then one day we will die in our sleep. Everything will be nice, cozy, and comfortable. But the Bible doesn’t promise that. Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation” (John 16:33). But He also said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Sometimes God will keep us from a problem. And sometimes He will let us go through the problem and will be with us in the storms of life.

“Jesus is our peace during the storms of life.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know I have made bad decisions in the midst of the storms in life. Please forgive me. I know some of the consequences of my bad decisions are still here. In the future, please help me to make better decisions. Please send others to help me through these tough times. I ask for Your peace to comfort me. I ask, Father, for Your power to strengthen me. When I want to run because I am afraid or hurt, I ask that You help me to stand. I know that You will guide me to grow through these things. Lord, I know You will be there to help me through every storm of life and even in the final storm of death, I wi praise You for Your peace and for Your promise of heaven. Help me to keep my mind focused on eternity so that I will not lose hope here on earth. Fill me with Your Spirit and use my life to share God’s peace with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Trying to face a storm without Jesus will get very overwhelming, you may even feel all alone. He is waiting for you, ask for His help. February 26th 2020 – Willing and Available

“Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.” (Acts 13:3-5)

In the book of Acts, the progression of the life of Paul is revealed. Initially, we see Paul fighting against God. Paul is living out his life doing his ‘own thing’ when he meets God in a very real way. Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus began this progression where we see him begin to give his life over to God. The book of Acts allows us to watch first hand as we see this man give his life away. One danger is to look at Paul’s life and think, “Wow, that was great for Paul, but can my life really make a difference?” I used to ask myself the same question, but not anymore.

You see, one of the beautiful truths of God’s Word is that God will work through anybody who is willing. He is not looking for ability, but for availability. Throughout the Bible we see men and women accomplishing great and incredible things. These men and women had some of the same weaknesses and wanderings we do, yet the Lord used them to touch many lives. The most difficult part of this journey is the first step. I encourage you to take the first step. Step out in faith and begin to walk the incredible journey God has planned for you. You will look back in amazement at what the Lord will do. I know I do every day.

“We all should be ministers and make a difference in this world.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You tell us to pray for workers in the harvest. Lord, I want to pray that You make me a worker in the harvest. Whatever my gifts and abilities are I lay them before You now and ask You to work through me to help change this world. I know I am not saved through these acts of service, but because I am grateful for Your forgiveness, I desire to serve so others may come to know You. I am a Christian because someone cared. Now it is my turn. In Jesus’ precious and glorious name, Amen.

February 22nd 2020 – Rechargeed Revival

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” (Revelation 2:4)

If you want to experience revival in your life, then hang out with a brand-new believer. It is the best thing you can do for your own spiritual health. A brand-new believer is all charged up and has questions that will have you digging back into the Scriptures again. You stabilize that new Christian, and he or she reenergizes you. Everyone benefits.

On the other hand, if you hang around with jaded Christians, with those who have even become cynical, then you probabally need to find some new friends. Sometimes people worry about new believers not changing quickly enough, but I am more concerned with older believers who have stopped changing altogether. They are settled in their ways. Maybe they have traded in old vices like immorality, drinking, drugs, or profanity and replaced them with new ones like gossip, bitterness or self-righteous pride. Another big one is disappointment with God for what they feel He may owes them, such as unanswered prayers.

I find it interesting that at least 75 percent of the Christians who personally share their faith have been believers for five years or less. In other words, most people who come to Christ through personal evangelism have done so because someone young in the faith shared the gospel with them.

I think this is because new believers are still discovering what God has done for them. They are still excited about it. As we get older in the faith and have walked with the Lord for a time, we start taking these things for granted sometimes. That means we need revival. We need to be brought back to that place where we once were, where we realize how important it is to share with others what Jesus has done for us.

If we have no desire to share our faith, then we need to experience Revival!

“Revived people are evangelistic people because their evangelism is a result of excitement and gratitude to the Lord”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Bible. It is through these pages that we find life and light. Within Your Word, there is the story of our salvation in Christ and instruction on how we can live victorious lives. Teach me Your ways and help me grow in wisdom and understanding. Father, we pray not for shallow selfish ends, but for Your great glory and kingdom. Cause us to come to You in true humility, brokenness and contriteness of heart. May this be time Lord, that this nation falls on its knees in prayer. In Jesus’ Glorious and Holy Name. Amen!

February 21st 2020 – Our Fathers Ultimate Love for Us

Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

We may think sometimes that we must do certain things to merit the love of God. But what we need to remember is that the love of God is consistent, and it is persistent. God says, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you”

However many people find it difficult to think of God as a loving Father. They see Him through eyes clouded with the pain of past life experiences with an ungodly father or stepfather.

Thousands of Christians do not believe God loves them because their earthly father abandoned, wounded, or grieved them so badly. I pray that this message will speak not only to them but also to those of you who have not yet discovered the depths of our heavenly Father’s love!

Many of us know the Scriptures and the theology behind God’s great love for His children. Yet very few of us have learned to appropriate that love and we are not enjoying the benefits of having it.

Listen to how God described Himself to Moses:

“The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin . . .” (Exodus 34:6-7).

When we are in the midst of our trials, we forget what God has said about His own nature. Yet, if we would only believe Him in such times, we would have great assurance in our souls. From cover to cover, the Bible speaks to us as God’s voice, revealing to us how tender and loving He is.

He is ready to forgive at all times. “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You” (Psalm 86:5).

He is patient with us, full of tenderness and mercy. “Great are Your tender mercies, O Lord” (Psalm 119:156). “The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy” (Psalm 145:8).

Have assurance in the following:

1. Your heavenly Father will never abandon you. Nothing is more traumatic to a child than a family breakup. Children often blame themselves for divorce—and they experience acute feelings of insecurity. They can also develop the wrong idea that if their father or mother was willing to walk away from them, God will do the same.

The Truth Is: God says, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5) Earthly parents may break promises, but God is always faithful.

2. Your heavenly Father will never verbally berate you.I knew of a boy whose father didn’t want any children. As a result of the fathers disapproval, he criticized the boy constantly, told him he was always in the way, never would amount to anything. He often demanded that he stay in his room most of the time. As punishment he was locked in a dark closet. As a result of this constant disapproval and criticism he grew up struggling to receive love. He found it difficult to believe God could ever love him.

The Truth is: The Lord is a loving Father who speaks tenderly to His children; and even when He must discipline us, it is for our good. James 5:11 says: “We … have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.”

3. Your heavenly Father will never abuse you. This same boys father was cruel and domineering. He was often physically and verbally abusive towards him. He still has mental scars from his father’s angry outbursts. His father’s behavior made him never feel truly accepted until he found salvation in Jesus.

The Truth Is: God is not an abuser. He is a good Shepherd who protects us. If you were abandoned by one parent or both, abused by someone, either physically, sexually or verbally, recognize that God did not approve of that behavior and He wants to heal you from the pain of that experience.

What a contrast when we compare the love of God to the so-called love of the world we live in. Our culture loves you when you are young and beautiful, but God loves you when you are old and not so attractive. Our world loves you when you are a celebrity, but God loves you when you are unknown and a complete nobody. Our world loves the rich and the powerful, but God loves the poor and the weak. Our world loves the extraordinary, but God loves the ordinary, people like you and me. And God has demonstrated this love for us in a tangible way.

Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Jesus, showing His love, died for us. We read in (Revelation 1:4-5), “Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”

Notice the use of the past tense, which means that it is done. If you have put your faith in Christ, then God has forgiven you through Christ for all of the wrong you have done. God loves you. He has loved you. And He always will love you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the amazing love You have shown me. Thank you for the people that you have brought into my life that exhibit the love of Christ as well. Help me to grasp this love so that I will be able to love others in the same way. Strip me of any excuses and use me to reach others with the love of Jesus. In His name, Amen.

Reach out to God and ask Him to show you His fatherly love, you will not be disappointed. Remember, He is all He says He is!

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that He answered your prayer.

February 19th 2020 – Where God Guides, God Provides

“And Abraham called the name of the place, The Lord Will Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
(Genesis 22:14)

Abraham was willing to give his all unto the Lord. In obedience to God he was willing to let go of the next most beloved thing in his lifeñhis son. Jesus said this about our following of Him:

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matthew 10:37)

What do you and I put in front of the Lord in our lives? Is it our marriage, kids, work, or our own self interests? God is able to do such an amazing thing in our hearts and lives if we’d simply yield to Him as Abraham did in this chapter. Abraham was willing to offer his only son in obedience, but God instead offered Himself as the sacrifice (Genesis 22:8) through Christ who was to come. Abraham was told his descendants would be as the stars in the sky, basically innumerable. So it is for us in our time of testing. When we yield to the Lord in spite of the pain or difficulty in the current situation, we can trust by faith that the Lord will provide exponential blessing and goodness upon our lives.

“Giving our all to God will yield countless blessings many of which we may never come to know till we are in the presence of God.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me identify those things that have priority over my heart instead of You. Please give me the grace to be willing to forsake all and follow You in all my ways. Help instill in me that You have a plan and are in control. I love You and want the blessing You have for me and my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

February 16th 2020 – Stirring of the Heart

“And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.”(Acts 19:23)

The people of Ephesus either loved Paul or hated Paul. Why? Paul had a holy restlessness, a stirring in his heart that drove him to great lengths to share the Gospel message. It is important we understand that Christianity is not just about getting along with everybody. All of us are individually gifted and crafted for a unique purpose, but it doesn’t end there. If we do not use our gifts, it profits no one. In the same way, if our relationship with one another does not transform us, it’s not much of a relationship. Ministry changes people. It puts people together in situations that are often uncomfortable and stretches us in ways that we never thought possible. It causes us to drop our masks and be honest with one another.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24)

We are to think about one another and how we can love and encourage one another. We are to stir up (Encourage) love and good works in one another. This is not always going to be comfortable, and it is not always going to be received in the way that we intended. Maybe that’s why the very next verse in Hebrews reads,

“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)

I find it interesting that the verse telling us to stir up love and good works in one another is followed by a verse telling us to stay in fellowship. Why? Well, sometimes we can be offended by another’s encouragement. We’ve been chugging along thinking we’re doing great and then someone offers a word of encouragement that stirs up our heart. Without taking time to pray about it, we make a decision to leave or disconnect from fellowship.

One of the resources God has provided for meeting our needs is other believers. When we sacrifice fellowship for comfort, we’re like an antelope separated from the herd. Suddenly, it’s not a question of ‘if’ we will be attacked, but ‘when’ we will be attacked.

“Don’t run from ministry, engage in it as a team..”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You so much for the family that You have placed around me. Please give me a burden for the lost. Give me a burden to minister and encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. Please take away any fear I have of doing this, and forgive me for the times when I have neglected to do this. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 15th 2020 – Be Still and Know that I am God

In loving memory of Francisco F Gonzalez.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.” (Psalm 46:10-11)

I was laying in bed early this morning thinking about a funeral that I am attending today for a good friend, one that died much to early in life. I thought about how we didn’t make more time to visit this last year as we used to. I thought back on a conversation that we had many years ago following a terrific storm here in Tucson, AZ. While we were at work the sound of thunder roared outside. The precious, drops of water sprinkled all over. We discussed about how the rain brought life to all the trees and plants here in the desert. but it was the bursts of continuous thunder that really captured our attention.

The power had went out, and we sat still at our desks, and just listened to God speak. With each burst of noise, it’s as if God was speaking a promise: I am good. I am faithful. I am sovereign. I am love. I am merciful. I am victorious. I am truth. I am comfort. I am constant. I am peace. I am hope. I am with you. I am for you. I am all you need.

All reminders that He is in control and He is near. Sometimes we feel like we don’t hear God. Sometimes we shake our heads in confusion because we don’t understand why He allows certain things to happen, and other things not to happen. Sometimes we get overwhelmed by the weight of our problems. Sometimes we wish God would just show us what’s ahead, or speak loud and clear so we know what direction to go.

In life things happen we often don’t understand. When I heard the news of my friend dying so sudden, so young. I initially questioned God, Why? “Francisco was a good man, he loved you Lord. He always shared Your mesage of love, which he exhibited in his life. He used his God given gifts as a musician to worship at church, he learned and played You in beautiful songs for so many to hear.” Why did this happen?

We often want the answers, but maybe sometimes what we need is the thunder. Maybe what we really need is to just be still and know that He is God. Nothing in this whole wide world will ever shake His Promises. After all, this whole wide world belongs to Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You that You speak to us in so many different ways. Today many things will want our attention, but help us to seek moments of stillness with You. Give us hearts of wonder that see You, hear You, and feel You everywhere we go. Thank You that it all points to Your great love for Your creation. May we make the time to visit our friends and family more. Let them know that we sincerely care and love them. I ask for Your peace to comfort and Your power to strengthen us. When we want to go and hide away from everyone because we are afraid or hurt. I ask that You help us to stand. I know that You will guide us to grow through these things. I lift the families that lost loved ones to You for comfort and peace. Lord, I know You will be there to help us through all the storms that happen in our lives and even in the final storm each of us must face. I love You Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

February 14th 2020 – You Are Mine

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)

This is the month when you hear about love, and Valentines are everywhere you turn. Today, February 14, is the day we’ve chosen to celebrate with the ones we love.

On Valentine’s day isn’t it fun to dig through a box of those little candy hearts? The ones that have the words printed on them. They say little things like “SWEET”, “CUTE” or “KISS ME”. But the one that I like the best says, “YOU ARE MINE!”

The opening verse in Isaiah chapter 43 gives a beautiful picture of God saying those exact words to His beloved children of Israel. Even though they had wandered away from Him and He had to discipline them, He declares, “Don’t be afraid! I made you and I will take care of you. You are mine!” Then, as their loving Father, He gives them the promise of His presence, His protection, and His provision through it all.

“But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

So how can we know and express real love? It’s not lust or an emotion, or merely a sentimental state of mind. There is romantic love, and the love of family and friends. But, the Bible tells us the highest love is not based on feelings, but a commitment of our will. This love is patient and kind. It’s not envious or arrogant or rude. It’s not selfish or easily angered. It doesn’t keep a record of how others have wronged us. It puts up with a lot and endures with hope. It doesn’t run away when the going gets tough.

Real love never stops loving. God Is Love – and it’s real love. He shows us this love through the life and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. Have faith in Him and you can experience true love. His love will empower you to show real love to others

Ephesians 1:3-14 says that as a believer in Christ, God the Father does the same thing for you. He created you, He redeemed you, and He calls you to Himself saying, “You are accepted in the Beloved”– in essence, “You are Mine!” As a loving Father cares for His children, so He cares for you day after day, week after week, year after year. He loves you! You are His!

“Let all that you do be done with love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, what a thrill to hear Your words and to know that I belong to You! Thank You for creating me, for caring for me, for calling me Yours, and for the security that brings. I want to glorify my love for You by loving otherd as you have expressed Your love for me. I never knew true love until You taught me how to love. I am so greatful for the blessings that You have provided for me. I thank you for people who live me and I pray that I can express Your love through me. In Your precious name, Amen.

Experience a love like no other.

February 13th 2020 – How Do We Trust Again

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” (Psalm 28:7)

Each time that he said that he was sorry, I honestly wanted to beleive that he meant it. I knew at that point he was sincere just like before, but part of me wanted to give up on trusting him altogether. Why trust someone who like so many times before will probabally let you down again? In fact, why trust at all? Why not just close my heart and keep it safe from any potential harm?

King David understood this struggle. In Psalm 28, David asks God for help. Many scholars believe that this was written at the end of David’s life. At this point, he knows what it is to hide from words and actions that harm. He understands how it feels to be surrounded by people who say they are loyal to him, but sometimes let him down.

Even at this late stage, it may have been tempting to shut everyone out and never trust again … not just the people who intentionally sought to harm him, but those who loved him and messed up. It might have even crossed his mind that he should trust no one at all.

Instead, in verse 7 we see David’s thoughts and attitude change and find him singing a beautiful song to his Heavenly Father. In this place of hurt and uncertainty, he reveals a secret: He can trust because God is trustworthy.

The Lord is our strength and shield.

Like a triple-plated silver shield, David needed God’s protection for his heart. David may have wanted to isolate, but God had handwritten a plan for his life. People were an integral part of that blueprint.

The reality is that people are messy. My son was a mess, his addiction had cost him almost everything. Sometimes I’m a mess, too. The actions he chose to do really did hurt me and I need to work through it, but God’s shield of protection allows me to see the areas where He was still working in me. It also offered His truth to counterbalance hurtful actions.This shield allowed me to approach him from a place of resolution, rather than a place of offense or retaliation.

It will soon be two years that my son has been clean and off of drugs. I praise you in all that You do Lord, Thank you for giving me the strengh to get out of Your way and let you work in his heart..

Our hearts trust in the Lord and He helps us.

We need wisdom to know what to say, when to say it and when to hold those words back. God offers that guidance (James 1:5).

We need discernment over what is ours to fix and when to step back as God does His part (Psalm 55:22).

We need to know what to do when someone is destructive or unwilling to change, and how to transfer our trust to God in that hard situation, rather than take matters into our own hands. We can ask for hope and healing in our hearts while God performs His work in someone else’s heart.

Our hearts leap for joy, and with a song when we praise Him.

Conflicts, difficult conversations or poor behavior can make you want to give up or shut people out completely. In David’s case, trusting in God produced a strong foundation that led him out of seclusion and into a plan and a purpose.

Like David, have you been tempted to climb into a cave of isolation?

Do you sense God asking you to trust again? Maybe not even in a specific person, but in Him? In others? In the fact that He’s completely with you as you run after His plan for your life?.

“Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love and the future to God’s providence.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise and love You..but most of all I Trust You. In the past when someone has deliberately broken my heart, my response has always been to hide or build a wall. Thank You for wisdom, compassion and discernment as I trust in You first, Continue to give me the strengh to stay away from people that continually hurt me because they do not want to change. You show me how to trust others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
