September 10th 2018 – Overburdened

“On the third day, we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands.” (Acts 27:19)

Here is a cool fact, Did you know that ships have a line drawn along the hull to indicate their burden? If the line goes too far beneath the water, the sailors know there is too much cargo on board. This allows the sailor to take the necessary steps to avoid disaster. Wouldn’t it be great if we had indicators on us? In Acts 27, Paul, now a prisoner, was taken by ship to Rome where he and the ship’s crew encounter a mighty storm. In danger of shipwreck, the ship’s crew threw overboard the cargo they once had considered necessities. Timing and events can really change the way we look at things. We fill our lives with ‘tackle’ and ‘rigging’ that is not important to the eternal plan. Often, we get distracted by those things and cling to them rather than to God. We think… “Oh, I need this” or “I just can’t live without that,” but soon, overburdened, we hit a storm and sink.

(Hebrews 12:1) “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.”

What’s in your cargo hold? Are you carrying bitterness? Is there someone you need to forgive? Is your ship laden with shame? Are you hauling around guilt or sin? In (Matthew 11:28-30), Jesus said “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Why carry burdens around when you don’t have to? Won’t you lay your burdens at the foot of the cross?

“Lay your burdens down at the foot of the cross, before you sink”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Please forgive me for my sins and show me the burdens I carry that You want to remove. There may be things I’m not aware of that are distracting me from the best that You have for me. Please show me these things so that I can give them over to You. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen

September 9th 2018 – The Good Gardener

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. (John 15:1-2)

What an amazing and loving Heavenly Father we have.  He is always at work within us to help us grow up.  Many people look at verse two and see the words “takes away” and think that God gets rid of those who do not bear fruit.  That is not what it is saying.  This verse means that God lifts up those who are having problems bearing fruit and works with them.

A wise farmer doesn’t destroy his branches, he lifts them up, cleans them, and reties them to the vine.  Our loving Father does the same thing.  He is out for our best and will keep working with us to produce much fruit.

Remember, good trees naturally bring forth good fruit. We are good trees planted in the house of the Lord. If you love God and you have accepted His free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ then God’s love is poured out on you. God is working on the inside to help you produce a great harvest that will last you throughout all eternity.

It’s important to know that it’s not what you do, but it’s letting Him do the work within you.  Too many times, we say, “I need to do this or I need to do that” before God will work in my life; it’s just being legalistic. God wants to do the good work within you and as He does and good things develop within your heart, you will see that these fruits of the Spirit will become obvious to others.

If you let God do this pruning within you, you will see that the fruits of love, joy, and peace will start growing, and you’ll look back and say, “Is this really me?” Remember, the fruits of the Spirit are not works of law but gifts of grace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for always being “The Good Farmer”, Its Your pruning that produces good fruit in my life. I welcome the planting of the seeds through Your Word to grow and live in me. As I do, You will clean my heart so that the fruits of the spirit can operate big time within me.  I praise You for all that you do in my life. In Jesus’ precious name,  Amen.

September 8th 2018 – Dear Dad

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

Dear Dad,

Please make my heart long for your words more than anything else. Open my eyes so I can see amazing things in the Bible. Unify my heart in fearing you and only you. Satisfy me with your unfailing love.

I ask that all people, including me, would honor you and uphold your reputation by both our words and our actions.
I ask that your sovereignty would become tangible and evident in people and nature around the world.
And I ask that today, and each day forward my actions and leadership of my family would align with your plans for my life.
I want to please you.

I’m needy, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally; please give me everything I need for today.
When I stumble and sin, please forgive me. May I forgive others and show them grace as you do for me.
Don’t put me on the path of temptation, because I’m not very good at resisting it.
Please rescue me from the evil one.

And now, I’m going to be happy because of everything you have done for me! I’ve cried for help so many times, and you always comfort me and save me through the hardest times. I want to trust you more and more with everything. You paid the ransom for my life; I’m yours now. And you are mine too! I pray that You won’t hold yourself back from me, and that I get to know you more and more each day.

How is it that you show me so much attention when I’m so small? I’m overwhelmed by how a God so powerful and famous shows so obviously that he cares about me and my life. Thank you for always being with me! Thank you that I don’t have to be ashamed of myself

Thank you for my beautiful spouse, thank you for my children, my parents, my friends and the special ones that you have led into my life to help guide and teach me in your ways.

I LOVE YOU.

Sincerely your son.

****Note****
Obviously that was a prayer of mine today, dont let this opportunity pass to give thanks for the people and the circumstances that God has had His hand on. Take a moment to let your loved ones know how much you love them, forgive them for any hurts that may have caused you, ask forgiveness for anything you may have done to hurt them. Please don’t wait another day, don’t wait until later, do it now. You never know when they will leave this earth and you won’t have the opportunity to do so. I lost my father when I was 22, I was unsaved and there is so much I wish I could say now.

May the Spirt of God overwhelm you today, and may God bless you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the amazing love You have shown me. Thank you for the people that you have brought into my life that exhibit the love of Christ as well. Help me to grasp this love so that I will be able to love others in the same way. Strip me of any excuses and use me to reach others with the love of Jesus. In Your glorious and precious name, Amen.

Reach out to God and ask Him to show you His fatherly love, you will not be disappointed. Remember, He is all He says He is!

September 7th 2018 – Cultivate Hope and Faith

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.” (Romans 5:3-4)

Have you ever prayed for someone and the situations in their life got worse, or their ilness got worse, maybe they even died?

In our estimation, sometimes things go the wrong way. We may pray, “Lord, heal this person. Be glorified through this.”

But the Lord might say, “I will be glorified, but I’m not going to do it the way you want Me to. I have a different plan instead.”

Sometimes God will remove the affliction. Sometimes God will heal the illness. Sometimes God will take away the cancer. But sometimes the person will get worse.

We don’t usually like that. But it is in these times that God can be glorified. Everyone suffers in life. Christians suffer too. When a Christian is suffering and can still glorify God, that is a powerful testimony to a lost world. When non-Christians see us honoring the Lord through our suffering, it shows them how real our faith is. And guess what? It shows us how real our faith is too.

“When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. (James 1:2-3)

Do you think that our faith would get stronger if everything were easy in life? Unfortunately, the truth is that our faith can only get stronger through our hardships. The opening scripture today teaches us that we develop hope and faith through tribulation. Romans 5:3–4 “But we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Hope grows in the garden of pain. It doesn’t grow without challenges or difficulty. It grows in hard times. We develop strength through our weaknesses. This is true in our spiritual lives as well.

Jesus is the only one who can give me the fruitful life I long for. I cannot get it by trying harder, but rather by opening my life to Him, letting Him eradicate the weeds of worry in our lives while cultivating contentment and trust. Hope along with trust grows when we surrender to Jesus.

“In life, we should think more about how great God is and less about how great our troubles are.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I love You and give You praises for still being here and loving us in such a time like this. The world is ungreatful and broken.. I know that I can often lose sight of hope and faith while I’m in the middle of hard times. Help me to be mindful of Your love, mercy, compassion and strength so that I can endure and even rejoice in the middle of my troubles and pain. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may live in hope and have an abundance of faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 6th 2018 – Real Love

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:3)

Love is a word that possesses incredible power. When a couple first speaks the word, it changes the dynamic of their relationship forever. On the other hand, when someone you love and care for tells you they no longer love you, it could impact your life for years. When someone you love dies, your heart grieves and love is what causes the pain and hurt you experience. We also can actually become emotionally and physically ill when we have our hearts broken from the loss of love.

Unfortunately, this word has many times been misunderstood. Our world sees love as a amped up version of lust but that’s not what God created love to be, and it’s not the example He has shown us.

(1 John 4:7) “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”

Love is not morality or religion. It’s not something else to put on your to-do list. Rather, love is our motivation and it is seen perfectly in our Lord. In short, love is Jesus. In every second of His life on earth, Jesus was love and demonstrated that love. From his healing of the sick and feeding the hungry, to His correction of the Pharisees, Jesus’ end goal was love. You could do all the good deeds in the world, but without love they would be empty meaning nothing. Jesus loved others because He loved the Father. The same is true with us. As we love our Heavenly Father, we will be able to love others; even those who we feel may not be that lovable.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love. Because of Your love for me, I have forgiveness of sins and hope of heaven. Father, fill me with Your Spirit and help me to love others like You love me. Make me more like Jesus so that I can share Your grace and mercy with those around me. Use me today to show love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you want to know this love – true love — get to know God. He is ready to pour out His love on you, and He wants to teach you how to love others as He loves you.

Want to experience the essence of Real Love?

We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment.God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that Hedied for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, wasburied, and rose from the deadaccording to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, “Jesus is Lord,” you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, today I am deciding to follow Jesus

Yes, I am already a follower of Jesus

I still have questions

September 5th 2018 – Embrace Truth, Reject Lies

A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”  (Proverbs 26:28)

This verse from Proverbs tells us that behind a lying tongue is hatred and flattery. These kings of actions will create a life full of pain for them and others around them. In today’s world lying has become a plague that is grieving the heart of God. It is not only rampant in society, but it has also spread among God’s own people. Even God’s ministers are not immune and many of them are infected with it.

According to many people, it’s considered rather harmless. Reference is even made to telling little “white lies.” Supposedly to some, these kind are O.K. These encompass speaking flattering words and compliments without really meaning them. Lying is now so commonplace that people are deceived into just accepting it as normal, instead of recognizing and resisting it. The practice of lying and dishonesty is now epidemic in our world. People lie and cheat on their income tax forms. People cover their adulterous affairs with lies. People lie about being ill in order to take off work. People lie when confronted with mistakes they have made, blaming others. People lie in order to get a promotion or favor. People lie to in order to get out of jams. People lie about others in order to get elected into government positions. The list could go on.

What does the Bible say about lying? A lying tongue is not only something God hates, it is also something that is an abomination to Him. It is one of the sins listed that God hates.

(Proverbs 6:16-19) “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”

Evil lies that are used against people are told for the purpose of wounding and crushing others. This is so prevalent in the media. This is why God hates it so, as it is designed to destroy people and their reputations. A wicked person who tells lies one minute to destroy others, will not hesitate to use flattery the next minute, if it will advance his own selfish cause. Whether it is a lie or flattery, the motive is wicked and the words are designed to ruin others.

On the positive side, the Bible tells us that truth will end up prevailing over a lie. It is always better to tell the truth, as truth will ultimately endure over all lies. The Bible tells us that Jesus and His Word are truth. Therefore if I give my life to Christ and practice His Word, I will be able to walk in the truth and tell the truth.

(Psalm 100:5) “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations”

(John 14:6) Jesus answerd “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”

Lying is a sin that leads to other sins. In fact, when someone tells a lie, then they have to tell other lies to cover that lie. When someone lies about another, they practice hate. The Bible tells us that hatred is really murder in someone’s heart. We can see the progression – telling a lie, embracing hatred in one’s heart, and then an actual murder can follow those two sins. This is why lying is so deadly.

(1 John 3:14) “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.”

“God knows our secrets so let’s be honest with ourselves and others”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am grateful You are a God of truth. Lord, help establish my lips to always speak the truth and not deceitfulness. Fill me daily with your Holy Spirit so that I am empowered to walk in love toward all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. May I always be gracious toward others, keep me from any false flattery. I never want to be manipulative, but to always be honest and sincere in all my dealings with others. You are the God of truth, so may I always embrace truth and resist every lie. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

This is no lie, Jesus died on the cross for you and me. He loves us and wants to help us. If you have not asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior please click here 4 Simple Steps to Jesus it’s the greatest decision you will ever make.

September 4th 2018 – Lump of Clay

Then the LORD gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” (Jeremiah 18:5-6)

In the opening verse above the prophet Jeremiah is describing a trip he took to the potter’s house, where God spoke to him:

The Lord also gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “Go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over.

Then the Lord gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” (Jeremiah 18:1-6)

We are like clay in the Potter’s hands. There are things God is doing in our lives, and we have a choice: We can respond to His working, or we can resist His working. We can yield to what He wants us to do, or we can disobey when He tells us to do something.

As we continue reading the story of Jeremiah and his visit to the potter’s house, we find a description of a field with cracked pots, vases, and wreckage. These were things that didn’t work out, so the potter took them and threw them into the field.

Life is like that. There are people who allow God to shape and mold their life. They go the way that God wants them to, and they turn into what God wants them to be. Then there are people who resist and say no to God. They self-destruct, and their lives end up in ruins, like broken pottery in a field.

We all sin, but we are given a choice to repent and ask God for forgiveness. We can learn from it and listen to God’s direction, or we can keep telling ourself it’s ok I didn’t get caught, I can stop anytime. Just because God didnt bust you, does not mean He doesnt know. Sometimes when God doesn’t bust us right away for our stupidity, we think we can always get away with it. When we don’t reap the immediate consequences of a sin, we might even, in our warped thinking, rationalize what we are doing.

(Ecclesiastes 8:11) says, “Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Remember, Sin will blind you, and then it will find you.

“Don’t confuse God’s grace with His permission, and even worse, His blessing”

God has a plan for your life. The question is this: Will you work with God’s plan, or will you resist it?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the forgiveness of sins through Jesus. Thank You for saving me and changing my life. Lord, I pray that You would take this broken lump of clay and make it new. Mold my life into what You desire. Help me to see the hardships in my life as the Master’s hands shaping me more into the likeness of Jesus. Use my life for Your world and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 3rd 2018 – Crack of Dawn

“Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” (2 Peter 3:3-4)

A very interesting thing happened to me yesterday. I stopped by the store to pick up natural medicine because I was feeling a cold setting in. On the way out I encountered a gentleman and we struck up a conversation. During the course of talking about how insane it is becoming all around us. Then, this very question was asked to me. “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again?”

All humans, deep down inside know what is right and what is wrong. Unfortunately we choose to do certain things that are wrong. We know what the Bible says, but somehow we think that we are above it. Or it won’t happen to us. Therefore, we play around with sin. And sin ultimately plays around with us.

There are many people today that know that Bible prophecy is true. They know that God has foretold many of the events that are happening around us. But yet they continue to live as they please.

But you know what, the Lord’s coming draws closer and closer every day. The Bible says, “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.” (Romans 13:12). It’s time for us to wake up!

One thing that always amazes me when I get up really early in the morning to pray and write these devotions. It’s pitch dark outside, But sure enough every day that sun slowly begins to rise. And when it was only darkness a few moments ago, suddenly it’s lightening up. And the next thing you know the sun is out and it’s lit up.

This is how our world is right now. It’s dark. And it has been dark for a long time. We say it will always be this way. No. The sun is beginning to rise. Christ is going to come back again. Be ready for His return.

“For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.” (Matthew 24:27)

“Don’t wait until it’s too late!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we love and praise You for being who You are, (The One True God.) I thank You for loving me and for Your willingness to always welcome all with open arms if they only call out to You for salvation. Thank You for revealing to the significance of the prophesy of Your impending return. I know its not too late, and that salvation is still available to all that would choose to believe and ask You into their heart, leaving all of their old ways, (broken and full of pain) and being reborn a new creation with a clean slate and a fresh start. Praise You Jesus for dieing on the Cross to redeem us pay for our sin and give us this opportunity to ask You to save us In your precious name Amen.

September 2nd 2018 – How Much Longer

“They shouted to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?” (Revelation 6:10)

In chapter 6 of the book Revelation, we read about those who were put to death for their faith. They are in Heaven, aware of the injustice, aware of the fact there were fellow servants still on earth being mistreated. So they prayed this prayer to the Father: ”O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world to avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”. In other words, Hey, Lord, this isn’t right, How much longer? When are You going to do something about it?

Here was God’s response to their prayers:

Then a white robe was given to each of them. And they were told to rest a little longer until the full number of their brothers and sisters—their.  fellow servants of Jesus who were to be martyred—had joined them. (Revelation 6:11)

God’s timing is not always our timing. The Bible says that “He has made everything beautiful in His time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

It kind of reminds me of taking a trip when my children were young. You are driving along, about hour into the trip you hear “How Much Longer before we get there?”

What do you say? “We are almost there. A little bit longer, or we are almost there”

The martyred saints were asking when they would be avenged. And God was saying, Just a little bit longer.

We say things like, “Lord, when are You going to come back?” He says, Just a little bit longer. “When is my prayer going to be answered?” Just a little bit longer. Be patient, I am in control. I am doing everything according to My perfect will.

“God’s delays are not necessarily His denials. So keep praying.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, deliver us from anxiousness when we have been falsly accused or wronged. Continue to keep us quickened to deliver Your message of salvation to everyone who will listen, until that day we die or You return again. We thank you for Your love and presence,  Lord protect us in this time so that we may continue share Your gosple until the very end. We praise You for the day when Jesus returns. Amen.

September 1st 2018 – Don’t Be Late

“Now Israel pleads with me, ‘Help us, for you are our God!’ But it is too late. The people of Israel have rejected what is good, and now their enemies will chase after them.” (Hosea 8:2-3)

Have you ever gone looking for something but were unable to find it? Do you remember how frustrating it was to need something but to not be able to have it? What if that something or someone you needed was the key to a life and death situation? Would you seek more urgently or would you put it off hoping things turn out OK in the end? Sadly, many in our world are faced with the reality of sin and death yet never look to the One who holds the keys to life.

(Isaiah 55:6) “Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.”

Our Heavenly Father stands over us desiring to rescue us from our sin. He made a way for us to be rescued through His Son, Jesus, who died in our place. His death and resurrection created a life raft to safety for anyone who would call on His name. The raft is there, but we must respond before it is too late. If you are reading this and do not know if you’ve responded to God’s offer of rescue and new life, then I encourage you to pray the prayer below. If you have experienced God’s saving power and the hands of rescue through Jesus Christ, then I challenge you to look for others sinking in darkness. Share the life-saving Truth of Jesus with them so that they too can be saved. Its as simple as sending this devotion to someone that God has placed on your heart.

“We should seek the Lord while we can find Him. One day, it will be too late.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I believe You died for me so that I could be forgiven. I believe You were raised from the dead so that I could have new life. I know I’ve done wrong things, and I’m sorry. Please forgive me and give me the power to follow You all the days of my life. In Jesus Name’ Amen.
