March 25th 2025 – Tempted? God Can Help

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:13)

It’s striking how quickly we can judge the actions of others while justifying our own questionable behaviors. The nature of temptation is that it draws us in, often appealing to our desires.

In the prayer Jesus taught us, we ask, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13). This plea is a request for divine guidance, helping us stay within God’s will and away from unnecessary temptation. Essentially, we are saying, “Lord, protect us from being tempted beyond our ability to resist.”

And indeed, He will. The Bible reassures us: “God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

However, we often encounter those ambiguous situations where we question if something is appropriate for a Christian. Here’s a practical approach to navigate these gray areas:

  1. Pray first: Bring your concerns into the light of God’s presence. If you can’t pray over your actions and honestly say “hallowed be Your name,” then it’s best to refrain from doing them.
  2. Consider the perspective of others: Ask yourself, “How would it look if someone else, particularly another Christian, were doing this?” Would it seem inappropriate? Does it carry what the Bible refers to as the appearance of evil? If so, it’s wise to avoid it.
  3. Seek strength against temptation: While temptation is an inevitable part of life, you can pray, “Lord, help me not to place myself in harm’s way unnecessarily.”

You can ask God to guard your eyes, ears, mouth, hands, and feet—everything that influences what you see, hear, say, and do.

“The adversary knows precisely how to tailor temptation to our weaknesses!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your immense love. I acknowledge my wrongdoings and the sins I’ve committed against You. Please forgive me and fill me with Your Spirit so that I can recognize and resist temptation. Help me resist the urge to justify sin in my life. When I find myself in tempting situations, open my eyes to the escape route You provide. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 21st 2025 – Live and Abundant Life

“So I sent messengers to them, saying, ‘I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?’” (Nehemiah 6:3)

In the midst of our daily struggles, it’s essential to recognize that the enemy is always lurking, seeking to distract and deter us from the important work God has called us to. Satan thrives on chaos and despair; his aim is to drag us down into misery. He may present fleeting joys that ultimately lead to heartache, but we must remember that God offers a path filled with true joy and eternal hope.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

To resist the devil effectively, we need to invite Jesus to transform us from within. Merely going through the motions of faith isn’t enough; it’s about allowing Christ to renew our hearts and minds. If we cling to our old ways, we risk missing out on the fullness of life that God desires for us. Don’t let the enemy take hold—surrender to God and rely on His Spirit to guide you along His path.

“God can bless you, wherever you are.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I’ve let the enemy lead me astray from Your purpose. Open my eyes to Your truth and my ears to Your voice through Your Word, the Holy Spirit, and the community of believers around me. I desire Your ways above all else! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

March 20th 2025 – The Shepherd’s Promise

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

As we reflect on this beautiful passage, we are reminded of the profound love and care our Shepherd has for us. The imagery of green pastures and quiet waters speaks to our deep need for peace and restoration. God desires us to find refuge in Him, to be refreshed and guided along life’s journey.

However, verse 4 shifts our focus from the Shepherd’s actions to our own. There are moments in our lives when we stray from His voice, leading us into places that feel dark and overwhelming—the valley of the shadow of death. It’s easy to find ourselves in situations that leave us questioning, “How did I end up here?” Often, it’s a result of our choices or our failure to listen to God’s gentle guidance.

Have you ever experienced such moments? Times when the lushness of life seems to fade and the waters become murky? In those moments, it’s crucial to remember that even when we wander, the Great Shepherd remains steadfast. He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. His presence is our greatest comfort, and His rod and staff symbolize His strength and protection.

In our failures, we must come to Him, confess, and allow His forgiveness to wash over us. There is no mistake too great for His grace to redeem. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness, providing a fresh start and a renewed spirit.

Take heart today; no sin is beyond His reach. Rest in the assurance that you are never alone. God is always near, waiting for you to call upon Him.

“He is ready to comfort you, restore you, and guide you back to the path of righteousness.”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus that makes me whole. I am grateful that even when I walk through difficult valleys, You are there to comfort and restore me. Thank You for Your unfailing love and for always being by my side. Help me to listen for Your voice and to trust in Your guidance each day. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

March 17th 2025 – Finding Hope in the Midst of Loss

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

Unexpected death can bring a tidal wave of emotions, leaving us feeling lost and shattered. When a partner passes away suddenly, it can feel as though the ground beneath us has vanished. The shock, sadness, anger, and confusion can be overwhelming. In times like these, it’s essential to remember that you are not alone. God promises to be close to the brokenhearted, offering comfort and solace even in the darkest moments.

As you navigate through your grief, it’s important to allow yourself to feel. Emotions are a natural response to loss. Cry, scream, or sit in silence—whatever you feel is necessary. It’s okay to be vulnerable and express your sorrow; this is a vital part of healing. Remember that Jesus Himself wept at the death of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35), showing us that grief is a profound, human experience.

How to Deal with the Loss:

  1. Lean on Your Faith: Spend time in prayer and reflect on God’s promises. Let His words wash over you. When you feel isolated in your grief, turn to scriptures that remind you of His love and presence.
  2. Seek Community: Surround yourself with friends and family who understand your pain. Share your thoughts and feelings with them. Sometimes just having someone to listen can bring comfort.
  3. Honor Their Memory: Find ways to celebrate your partner’s life. Create a memory box, write letters to them, or participate in activities they loved. This can help keep their spirit alive in your heart.
  4. Take Care of Yourself: Grief can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Make sure you’re eating well, getting enough rest, and allowing yourself moments of peace. Consider speaking with a counselor if you feel overwhelmed.
  5. Hold onto Hope: While the pain of loss is real, remember that God is a God of restoration. Trust that in time, He will bring healing to your heart. Surround yourself with reminders of hope, whether it’s through uplifting music, scripture, or nature.

Grief is a journey, not a destination. Allow yourself the grace to heal, knowing that God walks beside you every step of the way. In Him, there is always hope, even in the depths of sorrow.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, in this time of grief, I come to You with a heavy heart. I ask for Your comfort and peace to envelop me as I navigate through this unexpected loss. Help me to lean on You for strength and to feel Your presence in my pain. Remind me that it’s okay to grieve and that I am not alone. Thank You for the time I had with my partner and for the love we shared. May I find comfort in Your promises and hope for the future. In Jesus name Amen.

March 16th 2025 – Unwrapping New Life in Christ

“The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, ‘Take off the grave clothes and let him go.’” (John 11:44)

In this powerful moment, we see Lazarus emerging from the tomb, alive yet still bound by the remnants of his past. For many Christians, this imagery resonates deeply. Just as Lazarus was called from death to life, so too are we transformed when we accept Christ. However, like Lazarus, we often carry our “grave clothes” into our new lives—habits, mindsets, and emotional burdens that can weigh us down.

Our thoughts play a significant role in shaping our emotions. When we fixate on our problems, they can loom large, overshadowing the blessings we have. Conversely, when we shift our focus to God’s promises and provisions, we find that our troubles shrink in comparison. The Bible reminds us in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. By directing our thoughts toward these virtues, we can experience emotional and spiritual freedom.

True contentment is not dependent on our circumstances, a notion that often contradicts our societal beliefs. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by negative situations, but we have the power to choose our responses. Emotions are influenced by our thoughts; we can train ourselves to focus on the positive, the eternal, and the uplifting, even amid adversity.

Let’s encourage one another to look beyond the visible challenges and embrace the eternal truths of God’s Word. By doing so, we can cultivate a mindset rooted in faith rather than fear.

“Each of us has a measure of faith. The direction in which we place our faith will shape our decisions, perspectives, and the paths we take in life.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible love You have shown me through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Help me to hold tightly to this truth as my faith grows. Fill me with Your Spirit daily, so I can discern Your voice and overcome the lies that hold me back. Teach me to find real hope in You, especially during times when You feel distant. Guide me to share the Gospel with those around me who need to hear Your message of grace and salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you desire to know Jesus personally and experience the transformative power of His love, simply pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I acknowledge that I need You in my life. I believe You died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I ask for Your forgiveness and invite You to be my Lord and Savior. Help me to follow You and grow in my faith. Thank You for loving me. In Your name, I pray, Amen.”

If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of God! We encourage you to connect with a local church, read the Bible, and seek fellowship with other believers to grow in your faith. Remember, you are not alone—Jesus is always with you!

March 15th 2025 – Attitude Adjustment

“Lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.” (1 Corinthians 1:15)

In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul addresses the divisions within the church. The notion that a church is a flawless sanctuary can often be challenged the moment you step inside. This reality was just as true for the early church. While each of us brings something valuable to the community, our sinful nature can also contribute to its challenges.

In this epistle, Paul confronts the attitudes and mindsets of the people. Do we need to be challenged today? Absolutely. Salvation is just the beginning; the journey of transformation continues. As we grow, our understanding of what it means to follow Christ is continuously tested. God seeks to reshape our attitudes, and if we are honest, we recognize our deep need for that transformation.

When we pause to reflect on challenging situations or life as a whole, adopting a different attitude can shift our perspective. What once appeared insurmountable may soon seem filled with hope.

“God desires to give you an attitude adjustment.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering love. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus, whose sacrifice grants me the gift of abundant life. Lord, I confess my struggles; I have sought answers in the world rather than relying on You. I surrender my heart to You, Lord. Guide me in making the changes You desire for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 1st 2025 – Handwriting On The Wall

“And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of each word: Mene means God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end; Tekel means you have been weighed on the scales and found lacking; Peres means your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.” (Daniel 5:25-28)

King Belshazzar was terrified. During a party where he openly mocked the God of Israel and celebrated the false gods of Babylon, mysterious fingers appeared and wrote this message. While it’s easy for us to judge the king for worshiping idols, we must remember that coveting can lead to idolatry.

“You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things, the wrath of God comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore, do not be partners with them.” (Ephesians 5:5-7)

Is there anything you prioritize over the Lord? Is God first in your time, talents, resources, and circumstances? If not, what takes precedence? Even if it seems good or noble, if it comes before God, it becomes an idol. Perhaps God is revealing something to you today that you have allowed to take His place.

Are you engaging with His Word before He issues corrective and loving judgment regarding that idol? God loves us deeply and often allows us to reflect on our lives in light of His truth before He steps in with correction.

“If we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.” (1 Corinthians 11:31-32)

“Beware of the corrosion, corruption, and compromise that comes from covetousness.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your righteous judgments and truths to me through Your Word. Please forgive me for prioritizing my time, talents, and resources toward other things instead of putting You first. Grant me the grace and strength to be Your disciple, allowing Your Spirit to guide me as I strive to walk in Your truths continually. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 1st 2025 – Embracing the Essence of Haplous

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23)

Unpacking the Meaning of Haplous.

The Greek / Hebrew term (Stongs #573)

“Haplous” (ἁπλοῦς)  (pronounced hap-looce’) carries a profound significance, encapsulating the essence of simplicity and single-mindedness. This word conveys the idea of possessing a pure, undivided focus—a heart and mind that are wholly dedicated to a singular purpose. In the context of our spiritual lives, embodying “haplous” represents the cultivation of a heart that is singularly devoted to God, untangled from the web of distractions and complexities that often ensnare our daily existence.

Cultivating a “Haplous” Heart

In the fast-paced, ever-changing world we inhabit, it can be all too easy to become overwhelmed by the myriad of demands and distractions that vie for our attention. Our lives can quickly become a whirlwind of commitments, responsibilities, and worries, making it increasingly challenging to maintain a deep and meaningful connection with our Creator. Yet, in the timeless wisdom of Matthew 6, Jesus offers us a profound reminder about the importance of our perspective. When our eyes are “healthy” or “haplous,” we gain the transformative ability to perceive the world through the illuminating lens of God’s love and divine purpose.

To foster a “haplous” heart, we must take intentional steps to simplify our lives and create space for the Divine. This may involve carving out dedicated time each day for prayer, immersing ourselves in the nourishing words of Scripture, or practicing the discipline of gratitude. As we begin to declutter our minds and hearts from the noise and distractions of modern life, we cultivate fertile ground for God to work within us, allowing His radiant light to shine through our very beings.

Take a moment to reflect on what it truly means to possess a “haplous” heart. Are there areas in your life where temporal concerns have taken precedence over your vital relationship with the Almighty? Consider how you might embrace simplicity, focusing your thoughts, energy, and actions on what holds eternal significance. As you embark on this transformative journey, you will discover that your life becomes a vibrant reflection of God’s light—radiating hope, love, and peace to all those you encounter.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we are profoundly grateful for the gift of simplicity that You offer us. Help us to cultivate a “haplous” heart, one that remains steadfastly focused on You amidst the ceaseless demands of this world. Clear away the barriers that impede our communion with You, and guide us to see the world through the lens of Your divine perspective. May Your radiant light shine brightly in our lives, empowering us to honor You in all our thoughts, words, and deeds. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

January 28th 2025 – Shipwrecked, Cling to Your Faith

Click to have devotion read by the author.

“Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.” (1 Timothy 1:19)

Recently, California has faced devastating wildfires, leaving many communities in distress and uncertainty. As flames engulfed vast areas, families were forced to evacuate, and homes were lost. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected, as they navigate the challenges and heartache that come with such a catastrophic event.

In our journey through life, we all desire smooth sailing, yet storms and unforeseen challenges often arise. Unlike storms that can be spotted from afar, disasters strike suddenly and without warning. Life can throw us unexpected trials that leave us feeling unprepared and bewildered.

The apostle Paul faced three literal shipwrecks in his lifetime (see 2 Corinthians 11:25). You might think that would deter anyone from the ocean! Yet, Paul also warned of spiritual shipwrecks—when individuals allow their faith to falter. He urged Timothy to “cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear,” noting that some had strayed from this path, leading to their spiritual demise (1 Timothy 1:19–20).

I’ve witnessed people lose their faith in the face of tragedy, often stating, “I’ve lost my faith through this.” However, I believe that true faith is resilient. The faith that cannot withstand trials is not genuine faith at all. The Bible reminds us that “when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow” (James 1:3).

If your faith falters under pressure, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate its foundation. Let go of any fragile faith and embrace a stronger, more authentic belief in God. When crises arise, our faith should not crumble; rather, it should deepen as we cling to the Lord during turbulent times.

“Disasters will come—perhaps not today, tomorrow, or even next week—but they are inevitable. Prepare yourself spiritually.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am thankful that You are my Rock and a constant source of support in times of need. When I feel adrift and lost, remind me of Your unwavering love and faithfulness. Lead me to trust Your Word over my emotions. I choose to hold tightly to my faith in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Is Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life?

Maybe you once followed Him, but feel lost now, consider this prayer of salvation or recommit your life to Him.

Salvation Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your love and grace. I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, who died for my sins and rose again, conquering death and offering me eternal life.

Lord, I repent of my sins and ask You to cleanse me with Your precious blood. I invite You into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Help me to walk in Your ways and grow in my faith each day.

Thank You for the gift of salvation and for the assurance of Your presence in my life. I commit my life to You, trusting in Your plan and purpose for me.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

January 25th 2025 – In Every Season

Click play to have this devotion read by the author.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Life is a tapestry woven with a variety of seasons—some filled with joy and celebration, others marked by trials and heartaches. Paul’s instruction to the Thessalonians reminds us that gratitude should be a constant thread running through our lives, regardless of the circumstances we face. It’s easy to express thanks when things are going well, but true faith is revealed in our ability to give thanks even in moments of difficulty.

Consider how nature reflects this truth. Trees shed their leaves in autumn, yet they prepare for new growth in spring. Just as nature has its cycles, our lives ebb and flow, but God’s love remains steadfast. In every season—be it joy, sorrow, abundance, or need—He invites us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.

Application:

  1. Identify Your Seasons: Take a moment to reflect on the current season of your life. What challenges or blessings are you experiencing? Write down specific things you can thank God for in this season.
  2. Practice Daily Gratitude: Set aside a few minutes each day to express gratitude. You can pray, journal, or even share with a friend what you’re thankful for. This practice will help shift your focus from what’s lacking to the abundance of God’s grace.
  3. Embrace the Lesson: Ask God what He wants you to learn in this season of your life. Sometimes, our struggles teach us about resilience, faith, or the importance of community. Be open to His guidance.

As you navigate through each season, remember that gratitude is a powerful act of faith. It transforms our perspective and connects us more deeply with God. In every circumstance, let your heart overflow with thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, thank You for Your unchanging love and faithfulness. Help me to give thanks in every season of my life, recognizing Your hand at work in all circumstances. Teach me to see the blessings in my trials and to rejoice in Your goodness. May my heart be filled with gratitude, echoing Your will for me in Jesus. In His Holy name, I pray, Amen.
