July 19th 2023 – The Gift of Peace

John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

In this verse, Jesus offers His disciples and all believers the gift of peace. But this peace is not like the temporary and fleeting peace that the world promises. It is a deep and lasting peace that comes from knowing and trusting in Jesus Christ.

In the midst of a chaotic and troubled world, Jesus reminds us not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid. He knows that we face many challenges, trials, and uncertainties, but He offers us His peace to calm our troubled hearts and minds.

This peace is not dependent on our personal circumstances. It is not found in worldly possessions, success, or the absence of problems. Instead, it is a peace that transcends all understanding and surpasses the troubles of this world. It is a peace that comes from knowing that Jesus is with us, guiding and comforting us through every situation.

As Christians, we can find peace in Jesus’ words because He has overcome the world. He conquered sin and death through His sacrifice on the cross, and He offers us the same victory and peace through faith in Him.

So, when we find ourselves feeling anxious or afraid, let us remember the promise of Jesus’ peace. Let us turn to Him in prayer, seeking His presence and surrendering our worries to Him. Let us trust in His faithfulness and His promises, knowing that He is in control and that His peace will guard our hearts and minds.

May we embrace the peace that Jesus offers, allowing it to fill every corner of our lives. And may this peace shine through us, becoming a powerful testimony to those around us who desperately need the peace that only Jesus can provide.

Let us hold on to the words of Jesus in John 14:27, allowing His peace to guide us, comfort us, and strengthen us each day.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of prayer, a way for us to communicate with you and seek your guidance, comfort, and understanding. Today, we come before you with humble hearts, acknowledging that there are certain circumstances and situations in our lives that surpass our understanding. We recognize that there are times when we can’t comprehend the reasons behind the challenges we face or the pain we endure.

In these moments, we turn to you, knowing that you are the source of all wisdom and knowledge. We ask for your divine intervention, to grant us the ability to trust in your plan even when we can’t fully comprehend it. Help us to have faith in your goodness and faithfulness, knowing that you work all things together for our ultimate good.

Lord, we ask for your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard our hearts and minds. In the midst of confusion, doubt, and uncertainty, may your peace anchor our souls and remind us that you are in control. Help us to surrender our need for understanding and instead trust in your sovereignty.

We pray for those who are going through difficult times, those who are facing trials that surpass their understanding. Comfort them, Lord, and grant them the strength to endure. Surround them with your love and remind them of your presence, even in the midst of their confusion.

Teach us, Father, to rely not on our own understanding, but to lean on you in all things. Help us to seek your wisdom and guidance in every decision we make, knowing that you have a perfect plan for our lives.

Finally, Lord, we thank you for the promise that one day, all things will be made clear. In the presence of your glory, we will fully understand and comprehend the reasons behind every trial and challenge we faced on earth. Until then, we trust in your promise and rest in the assurance that your ways are higher than our ways. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

August 6th 2019 – Fruit of the Spirit (P4)

We are on the 4th day of a 9-day journey to learn about all of the fruit of the Spirit – the gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control that come from God.

Patience (Longsuffering) — We are “strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Colossians 1:11)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

“Patience” in Galatians 5:22-23 literally means “long temper,” in the sense of “the ability to hold one’s temper for a long time.” The NKJV translates it “longsuffering.” A patient person is able to endure much pain and suffering without complaining. A patient person is slow to anger as he waits for God to provide comfort and punish wrongdoing. Since it is a fruit of the Spirit, we can only possess patience through the power and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

God is patient with sinners. (Romans 2:4) says that God’s patience leads to our repentance. (Romans 9:22) points out that only God’s patience prevents Him from destroying “the objects of his wrath.” Paul glorifies the Lord for His “unlimited patience” that saved him, “the worst of sinners” (1 Timothy 1:16). Peter highlights the patience of God in (1 Peter 3:20), pointing out that God had immense patience with the evil people of Noah’s day, delaying judgment as long as possible

The opposite of patience is agitation, discouragement, and a desire for revenge. God does not want His children to live in agitation but in peace (John 14:27). He wants to dispel discouragement and replace it with hope and praise (Psalm 42:5). We are not to avenge ourselves; rather, we are to love others (Romans 12:19; Leviticus 19:18).

God is patient, and His Spirit produces the fruit of patience in us. When we are patient, we leave room for God to work in our hearts and in our relationships. We lay down our schedule and trust in God’s. We thank the Lord for what and whom He’s brought into our lives. We let God be God.

“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love” (Ephesians 4:2).

“Today, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved” 

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace and for being so patient with me. Father, help me to walk with patience and grace and to share Your love and mercy with others. In this world of pain, help me to trust in You even when I may not understand all that is happening around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 5th 2019 – Keeping Our Peace When Our World Falls Apart

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28)

A father was trying to take his Sunday afternoon nap but having little success because his young son kept waking him up with the complaint, “Daddy, I’m bored.” The father knew he needed to come up with some kind of plan to keep the little boy occupied, or there would be no nap. He glanced at the newspaper lying on the coffee table and had what he thought was a brilliant plan to keep his son busy and give him more time to sleep.

The father picked up the paper and pointed to a picture of the world on the front page. “This is a picture of the world, but it is also a puzzle,” the father explained. He then ripped the picture into about fifty pieces, handed them to his young son and said, “I want you to put it all back together.” He lay down to finish his nap, thinking he would get at least another hour of sleep.

In about fifteen minutes, the little boy woke him up saying, “Daddy, I’ve got it finished. It’s all put together.” The father could not believe it. His son was too young to know much about geography. “How did you do that?” he asked in amazement. “Dad, there was a picture of a person on the back page of that newspaper, and when I got my person put together, the world looked fine.”

Pain and stress can rip our lives apart. We frantically try to find some way to put it all back together, but the broken pieces don’t seem to fit anymore. What then?

Trust God. Like the children of Israel, just stick your toes in the water, and watch God part the raging sea before you.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
(John 14:27)

“Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.”
(Psalm 119:76)

You may not always understand or even like His process, but you can always trust His heart of love for you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I choose to believe You are faithful and will do what You promise to do in Your Word. I believe that when I lay my pain and hurt at Your feet, You can and will transform it all into something beautiful. I choose to believe You will turn the broken places of my life into living illustrations of Your sufficiency and healing power. Please Help me continue to be patient and let me blessings arrive in you perfect timing and in when I want. I humble ask You to give me peace as I humbly trust in You in these circumstances.  I trust You Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
