March 13th 2019 – The Daily Grind Part 2 of 3

God’s Got This.

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)

Everyone experiences times in their life when they are wronged by someone. I certainly have had this happen to me many times. On the flipside, I have also been the one hurt others in my life. There have been times initially after  being hurt, I have thought about how to get revenge. I actually used to find comfort in it. I would get this self-absorbed logic that I am entitled to a pay back. I would think of all the things I could say or do to that person. Some ideas that I would come up with, I would actually think were genius. Even though most of the time I never would go through with the plan. I still would find pleasure in planning the revenge.

God has another plan, and I have learned that over time, God willl take care of it. Knowing that any revenge is God’s, gives me peace. Giving up my hurt to God is freeing. The hardest part of this verse is completely taking youself out of the equation. We must remember that we are called by God to love our enemies. This is not always easy. Jesus said, “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” (Matthew 5:44)

Hate perpetuates hate.
Mind boggling, He asks us to forgive.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15)

Forgiveness is about how God forgives us, but also about how we forgive each other. This can be hard when we’ve been wronged. It all comes down to Love.

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” (Romans 12:9)

Do you hurt from someone’s wrong doings? Do you want healing? If you forgive, you free yourself. The weights are lifted. Seek God if you have never experienced Him. He is the all loving, forgiving God who can lift your weight and set you free.

“Don’t take it on yourself to repay a wrong. Trust the Lord and He will make it right!”

Prayer:

Dear Lord, Thank You for forgiving me of my sins. I come to you today with my injured heart. Please remind me how you always forgive me and continue to love me even when I fail you and sin against you. Please give me compassion and love for the person I am am seeking revenge and struggling to forgive. Please continue to lead me in you teachings so that I can reflect You more clearly in my everyday life. I love You and thank You for you unconditional love. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

February 13th 2019 – Gods Amazing Love For Us

“When the Lord first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, “Go and marry a prostitute, so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.” (Romans 1:2)

The book of Hosea opens up with drama. God has asked His prophet to marry a prostitute in order to demonstrate the relationship between Himself and Israel. As a loving husband, Hosea will cherish his wife and love her unconditionally, even in the midst of her sin. His loving actions stand as a beautiful picture of how God shows us Amazing Love and Grace even when we fall short of His perfection.

Even with this vivid image, its hard to imangine that a spouse would sneak around on the other if he or she truly loves them. Surely, in the story of Hosea she sees his acts of selflessness towards her. Surely, she has experienced his warm embrace and heard his gentle call. Why would she even consider running into the arms of another man? These are good questions, but we must take them a step further. Why would we choose run into sin knowing the love of God? How can we even think about sinning when God has given His life for us? The reason is that sin makes us blind to God’s love. We have to understand that the enemy will often create situations to snag us away from hearing God. We also need to rember that we all are born sinners. This is why we must run from it at all cost. As we run from our sin, we will more clearly understand the Amazing Love God has for us, and it will change our lives.

“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. (Psalm 86:5)

“To be able to truly love someone, you must first experience Gods ultimate Love for you, because God Himself is the true essence of love.” RL

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please forgive me for all the times I have forgotten Your love. Give me the power to overcome sin and to seek You with all my heart. Teach me through Your Word and guide me by Your Spirit to be able to love my spouse and others as You love me. Thank You for the precious gift of salvation. Thank You for making a way for me to be cleansed of all my sins. Lord, if I have sinned against You today, forgive me and help me live for You in all I do. Father, I stand on Your Truth in 1 John 1:9 that says if I confess my sins, You will cleanse me of all unrighteousness. Wash me clean and use me for Your kingdom today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do you want to experience the kind of Peace and Love that is only found in Jesus? Jesus died on the cross for you. He loves you and wants to help you. He wants to bring peace in your life. February 9th 2019 – Incredible Thirst

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

Picture, if you will, a line of people. These people are from different backgrounds and families. Only one thing unites them and that is the fact that all are incredibly thirsty. Each of them longs for a cup of cold water. Now, imagine the first in this great line being given a case of ice cold water. With great anticipation they grab a bottle and begin to quench their overpowering thirst. The dryness and pain that came with the thirst is quickly forgotten as they embrace the refreshing liquid. After enjoying the comforts of the water, the person is then refreshed and ready to pass on this wonderful gift. With great joy, they proceed to hand a bottle of water to the next thirsty soul – and the refreshment continues.

This may seem like an odd story, but it sheds light on our place in sharing God’s comfort. All of us have endured suffering. Like these people, we ache for refreshment from the pains of life. After a time of wondering when it will end, God pours out His refreshing comfort on our life and we become encouraged. The danger is to stop at this point and miss the secondary blessing. Rather than selfishly holding on to God’s comfort, we should share it with those who are still thirsting for relief. As God comforts us in our suffering we are put in the perfect place to comfort others – and the refreshment continues.

“God is the source of all blessings, comfort and mercy. When we are a source of blessings or comfort or mercy, we are becoming more and more like Christ.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the amazing comfort that I find in You. Because of Your love, I have peace with God and forgiveness for all my sins. Because of Jesus, I am free from the penalty of sin and no matter what happens on this earth, I will be healed and loved for all eternity. Father, help me to remember these things and to pass them on to those who are thirsting for Your refreshing comfort. In Jesus name, Amen.

February 2nd 2019 – Willing and Available

“Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.” (Acts 13:3-5)

In the book of Acts, the progression of the life of Paul is revealed. Initially, we see Paul fighting against God. Paul is living out his life doing his ‘own thing’ when he meets God in a very real way. Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus began this progression where we see him begin to give his life over to God. The book of Acts allows us to watch first hand as we see this man give his life away. One danger is to look at Paul’s life and think, “Wow, that was great for Paul, but can my life really make a difference?” I used to ask myself the same question, but not anymore.

You see, one of the beautiful truths of God’s Word is that God will work through anybody who is willing. He is not looking for ability, but for availability. Throughout the Bible we see men and women accomplishing great and incredible things. These men and women had some of the same weaknesses and wanderings we do, yet the Lord used them to touch many lives. The most difficult part of this journey is the first step. I encourage you to take the first step. Step out in faith and begin to walk the incredible journey God has planned for you. You will look back in amazement at what the Lord will do. I know I do every day.

“We all should be ministers and make a difference in this world.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You tell us to pray for workers in the harvest. Lord, I want to pray that You make me a worker in the harvest. Whatever my gifts and abilities are I lay them before You now and ask You to work through me to help change this world. I know I am not saved through these acts of service, but because I am grateful for Your forgiveness, I desire to serve so others may come to know You. I am a Christian because someone cared. Now it is my turn. In Jesus’ precious and glorious name, Amen.

January 22nd 2019 – Call On The Professional

“And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (Mark 4:20)

A Psalmist wrote in the Bible, “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.” For someone who has been in the pit of despair and in the mud and the mire, I stand on the other side praising God for all that He has donein my life. Isn’t that what following God is all about? Not the mud and the mire, not the pit of despair; but God being faithful to save us.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (Psalms 34:18)

We all go through seasons in life that sometimes punch us in the gut and take the breath right out of us. Maybe it’s a terminal illness, the death of a spouse or family member. Possibly a child abusing drugs, talks of divorce or even the loss of a job. One thing we can rest assured about, God will get us through. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.

Spend time in the Bible, praying and seeking the Lord. Don’t allow your troubles to determine the fruit God wants to produce in your life. When you are feeling down bless someone by helping them. Take a walk and spend time talking to God. The best remedy for despair and pain is to bless someone else. Remember, we plant the seed, someone else will come along and water it, and God will give the increase. The promise from Him is thirty, sixty, and some a hundred-fold fruit in our lives.

“There is no mistake that God can’t fix. There is no pit that God can’t pull you out of.”

“God can take what is broken and restore it into something beautiful!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your promises. I am grateful that at times in my life You have fixed my mistakes. I am grateful that You have pulled me out of the mud and the mire at times in my life. Please help me in these desperate times Lord. Cast out all fear, cast out all doubt in my life. Heal me of my brokenness. Help me to also sow seeds into others lives and be a part of helping build Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen..

Jqanuary 21st 2019 – God’s Love is Limitless

“[Love] does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13:6)

I recently read a story about a verse from a beautiful Hymn, The Love of God, which was introduced by Frederick M. Lehman in 1917.

“Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade.
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.”

It’s hard to believe that such beautiful lyrics could come from the mind of someone in an insane asylum. But it’s true. Those words were actually found on the wall of an insane asylum, written by a patient.

However there is much truth in the lyrics of the hymn. Love is not simply a feeling or intellectual process but an active expression. This view of love seen in leading scripture is purposeful and benevolent. It actively engages others, thinking of them above ourselves. Biblical love is not hindered by anything but seeks with passion to be shared with anyone and everyone.”

While the songwriter would love to take credit for the best-known verse in that song, he never did. In fact, Lehman wrote many years later that these lines “had been found penciled on the wall of a patient’s room in an insane asylum after he had been carried to his grave.

How is this possible? How can we even begin to love in a way that looks for opportunities rather than excuses? Simply put, we plug into the source of love. The God of all creation left everything in heaven for you and me. He stepped from the throne of God and wrapped Himself in our weak flesh in order to die on our behalf. That kind of love is life changing. That kind of love will fuel our lives so that we too can love like our Savior. Today, seek out an opportunity to love. Whether it’s a kind word, act of service or a merciful response, let’s love like Jesus. That kind of love will never be stopped – no matter how you spell it.

“Love will find a way. A lack of love will find an excuse. It has no limits”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the amazing love You have shown me. Help me to grasp this love so that I will be equipped to love others in the same way. Strip me of any excuses and use me to reach others with the love of Jesus. In His name, Amen.

Don’t have Jesus in your life? Don’t put off Experiencing His Ultimate Love

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that He answered your prayer.

January 11th 2019 – Trust God

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Sometimes in life you will face situations where you will not have the resources or the ability to respond to. These circumstances are beyond your control. Tests will come up, and that is when you need to trust God.

When an unexpected problem arrives, and you wonder how you will ever pay it . . . when you have that crisis with your spouse, and you wonder how you will ever get through it . . . when a loved one dies unexpectedly, and you wonder how you will survive it, here is how: you are going to trust God. You must trust God. And God will come through for you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6)

When you learn to trust the Lord, you will begin to have a sense of rest in the Lord knowing that He has everything under control even when life seems to be out of control.  Trusting God will get you to the point where you make a decision to trust in Him and NOT in your own logic and understanding.

Nothing is too big or too small for God to respond to. Sometimes we minimize someone else’s hardship. We may think, “I have dealt with that on a much more intense level, they will survive.” That kind of thinking is wrong, what if God looked at our hurts and problems like that?

Someone’s struggles may not seem significant to you, but it is significant to them. If it concerns them, it concerns the God.

Each of us should come to God with our burdens and struggles. Is there something keeping you up at night? Is there something troubling you right now? Is there a need you have? Bring it to God. It is not too big, nor is it too small and insignificant. The psalmist wrote, “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:1–2).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

“When faced with a need, no matter how large or small, we are to look to God to meet it.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I ask that You increase within me your obedient spirit so that I may be obedient to Your instruction.  Help me Lord to walk by faith and not by sight.  I don’t always understand what You’re doing in my life, but I make a decision to trust You God, In this season, I ask that You place within me your spirit of joy, peace and rest.  Give me joy; peace and rest to endure all that comes my way. Right now, I make a decision to trust You Lord because I know that You’re in control of my life even when my life seems to be out of control. Lord, I thank You for clarity, guidance, provision and strength.  I pray and ask for these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 5th 2019 – One Of A Kind

“I am giving you a promise now while the seed is still in the barn. You have not yet harvested your grain, and your grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, and olive trees have not yet produced their crops. But from this day onward I will bless you.” (Haggai 2:29)

If you found yourself on trial as a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict you? This poignant question is good for us to ask because it causes us to assess our walk with the Lord. While this is helpful, be careful not to fall into the trap believing that all Christians look the same.

We all have trusted in Jesus for salvation, but the work He has for us is often different. Look around you. Is there someone hurting or in need of God’s Truth? What are your skills or spiritual gifts? Are you using them for the glory of God? You see, each of us is created to glorify God, but we all do that in different ways. Each of us is at a different level in our Christian walk but we are all walking with the same person, Jesus. So this morning, look at your life and ask God to show you how you can show Him to others in a way that only you can. He’s saved you. He’s equipped you with your unique special gifts. Celebrate that your one of a kind.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for creating me the way that You have. Each aspect of me is part of Your creative Spirit. I pray that You show me how I can use my gifts for Your glory and for the furthering of the Gospel. Help me to walk outside my door and be ready to engage those around me for Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 2nd 2019 – Gods Enrichment Plan

“Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11)

How is it that we can find enrichment when we give of ourselves? After all, shouldn’t the accumulation of wealth and stuff bring about enrichment in our lives? This may be how the world views growth and enrichment, but in God’s economy, growth comes through giving.

The sad reality is that the more we receive, the more we are likely to be selfish and greedy. When we act according to God’s design, our giving leads us into enriched, generous lives. In essence, our giving helps check those feelings of selfishness and greed. Most people use their blessings to be blessed, the question is, “Are you using your gifts, talents, resources and finances to bless other people?” If not, you are failing the test of being blessed in the first place. If you have failed that test, don’t worry. Instead, begin walking in thankfulness, and God will bring you to a place where you will pass with flying colors. Many times, a generous life begins first with thanksgiving, then obedience, sharing, and generosity. When we begin living generously with our time, energy and finances, God will bless us with more because we have been faithful with little.

“Receiving from God is both a blessing and a test.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for salvation and the countless other blessings I experience on a daily basis. Help me to live a life of generosity and love so that more people may hear Your Word and find new life in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

December 28th 2018 – Seeing People Through Gods Eyes

“So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now!” (2 Corinthians 5:16)

It’s always easy to find something wrong with someone else. Often it’s so easy that some people see it as a spiritual gift. I assure you, this is not one of the gifts of the Spirit. After all, people found things wrong with Jesus and He was perfect. The religious leaders were looking at Him from their own perspective rather than a heavenly one.

This change in perspective makes all the difference, especially in the church. The reality is that whenever humans get together, you are going to have some conflict, but when we look at each other in light of God’s saving grace, things change. Rather than condemn my them for their sin, I will look at them and see the forgiven Child of God who is my sibling in Christ. When someone acts wrongly toward me, I can look at them and see a sinner who has been saved by God’s grace and in turn, show that same grace.

This reminds me of the song written by Christian artist Brandon Heath called “Give Me Your Eyes.” Here are a few lyrics:

“Give me your eyes for just one second. Give me your eyes so I can see. Everything that I keep missing. Give me your love for humanity.” See link at the bottom of the page for the video

Begin today by looking at others with God’s eyes.

“We should seek to look at people, possessions and events in a new way – in the way the Lord sees them.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am grateful that You look at me through eyes of grace and forgiveness because of Jesus. Help me to have those same eyes as I go throughout my day today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
