June 7th 2026 – The Old Piano and Its True Worth

Scripture Reference:

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:22)

The Story:

This is a story about a worn-out piano being sold at an estate sale.

It was old, dusty, and clearly past its prime. Week after week it sat in the corner while people searched for other treasures. Each week the price was reduced, yet no one seemed interested. To most people, the piano looked ordinary—perhaps even worthless.

Then one day, an elderly woman arrived on the final day of the sale. The piano was heavily discounted and destined for the dump if it didn’t sell. She slowly approached it and ran her hands over the chips and scars in the wood. She seemed to see something others had missed. She lifted the lid, adjusted the bench, and began to play.

The room fell silent.

The music that filled the air was breathtaking. Notes danced across the room with beauty, warmth, and life. It was as if the piano had awakened from a long sleep.

When she finished playing, everything changed.

The same people who had ignored the piano suddenly wanted it. Bidding began immediately, and this time the offers immediately started coming in.

Yet the piano itself had not changed. It wasn’t more valuable because someone finally noticed it. It was valuable all along.

The only thing that changed was that someone recognized what it was capable of.

Reflection:

I think about that story often because we live in a world that frequently confuses recognition with worth. If something is praised, we assume it has value. If it is overlooked, we assume it doesn’t. But recognition and value are not the same thing.

Some of the most beautiful things in life spend years unnoticed—a talent, a friendship, a calling, a dream, or even a person.

Perhaps that describes you.
Maybe you’ve felt overlooked, forgotten, or dismissed. Maybe you’ve wondered if anyone truly sees the gifts God has placed inside you. Maybe you’ve spent years feeling like that dusty piano sitting in the corner while everyone walked past.

If so, remember this:
God sees what others miss.

He sees the gifts hidden beneath the scars. He sees the beauty beneath the dust. He sees the purpose beneath the pain.

The world may evaluate you by appearance, status, accomplishments, or popularity. God looks much deeper. He sees the masterpiece He created.

Not everyone will understand you.

Not everyone will see you clearly.

Not everyone will recognize what you carry.

But that does not mean it isn’t there.

A masterpiece does not lose its value because the wrong person is looking at it. The masterpiece remains a masterpiece.

The thing itself has not changed.

Only the eyes looking at it.

Today, be encouraged. Your worth is not determined by the opinions of others. It is determined by the God who formed you, redeemed you, and calls you His own.

The One who created you knows exactly what you are capable of, and in His hands, your life can produce a beautiful song that the world never expected to hear.

“Your value is not determined by who recognizes you. Your value was established by the One who created you.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the precious reminder that my true value comes from You and not from the fleeting opinions of others. In a world that often measures worth by appearance, success, or popularity, help me to see myself through Your eyes. When I feel overlooked, forgotten, or dismissed, remind me that You see the gifts and potential within me, even when others do not.

Lord, I ask for the strength to embrace my unique purpose, trusting that You have intricately woven my talents and experiences into the tapestry of my life. Help me to recognize that, like the old piano, I may have scars and imperfections, but these do not define my worth. Instead, they tell a story of resilience and beauty.

As I navigate moments of doubt, fill me with Your Spirit, assuring me of the masterpiece I am in Your eyes. May I find comfort in knowing that my life’s melody can bring joy and inspiration to those around me, even when it feels unnoticed.

Guide me to be patient and faithful, trusting that You are orchestrating a beautiful song through my life, one that reflects Your glory and love. Help me to share this message of worth with others who may feel overlooked, so they too can recognize the beauty You have placed within them. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

April 3rd 2025 – His Masterpiece

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

A lump of clay, by itself, is not a remarkable thing. It may have some basic utility, but it remains a simple pile of dirt. That is, until the skilled potter takes it in hand. Once the potter’s touch shapes and molds the clay, it transforms into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind creation.

“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.” (Jeremiah 18:4)

When God found us, we were like that unformed clay – dirty, shapeless, and without true purpose. We may have tried to mold ourselves, but only the divine Potter can truly shape a life. Once the Heavenly Father took us in hand, He began the process of molding and refining us into the image of His Son, Jesus. With each firm press of His hands, we are changed. With every careful scrape of His tools, the impurities of sin are removed from our lives. This is our loving Heavenly Father at work, and while the process may be painful at times, the end result is worth it. God knows exactly what we need, and He is the perfect Potter whose loving hands will sculpt our lives into something far greater than we could ever imagine. All we must do is surrender to His skilled craftsmanship.

“God desires to make a masterpiece of your life.”

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, forgive me for resisting the work of Your hands in my life. I know that I need to be continually molded and shaped more into Your image. I ask that You would place my life fully on Your potter’s wheel. Carve away the sin and imperfections, and shape me into a vessel that can be used for Your greater purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
