August 23rd 2026 – Stop Flirting with Sin

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:7-8)

Reflection:

Flirting with sin can often feel harmless, like a playful encounter that won’t lead to serious consequences. However, the reality is that sin has a way of creeping into our lives, often starting with small compromises. It’s crucial to recognize that the enemy seeks to lead us away from the fullness of life God has planned for us.

When we allow ourselves to entertain sinful thoughts or behaviors, we create a distance between ourselves and God. Our hearts may become hardened, and we risk losing sight of His grace and purpose.

Practical Steps to Resist Sin:

  1. Identify Your Weaknesses: Reflect on areas in your life where you struggle. Acknowledging these can help you be more vigilant.
  2. Set Boundaries: Create personal boundaries to protect yourself from situations that may lead to temptation.
  3. Seek Accountability: Share your struggles with a trusted friend or mentor. Having someone to encourage you can make a significant difference.
  4. Immerse in Scripture: Regularly read and meditate on the Word. Scripture equips us to combat temptation with truth.
  5. Pray for Strength: Ask God to help you resist temptation and draw closer to Him.

Reflection:

Submitting to God means aligning our hearts and wills with His. It’s an act of humility, recognizing that His ways are higher than ours and trusting in His divine plan. This submission is not about losing our freedom; rather, it’s about finding true freedom in obedience. When we surrender our desires, fears, and anxieties to God, we open ourselves up to His guidance and grace.

On the other hand, resisting the devil requires vigilance and strength. The enemy seeks to tempt, distract, and discourage us. However, the promise of this verse is profound: when we resist, the devil will flee. This assurance reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles. God equips us with the Holy Spirit, empowering us to stand firm against temptation.

Take a moment to quietly reflect on areas in your life where you need to submit to God. What temptations do you need to resist? Write them down and pray over them, asking for strength and clarity.

Action Step:

Choose one practical way to submit to God this week—whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or serving others. Additionally, identify a specific temptation to resist, and create a plan for how you will do so. Share your journey with a trusted friend or accountability partner.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You today with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. I acknowledge that I often struggle to submit fully to Your will, and I ask for Your help to let go of my own desires and plans. Teach me to trust in Your perfect timing and wisdom, knowing that You have a purpose for every situation in my life.

As I face the temptations and challenges that come my way, remind me of Your promise that when I resist the devil, he will flee. Help me to stand firm in my faith, drawing upon the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the obstacles in my path. May I always seek refuge in You, finding comfort and strength in Your presence.

March 17th 2026 – The Only Barrier is You: Step Closer to Jesus

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)

Reflection:

In life, it’s sometimes easy to feel distant from Jesus. We often attribute this distance to external factors—busy schedules, distractions, or even personal struggles. However, the truth is that the primary barrier between us and our Savior is often our own choices and attitudes.

When Jesus invites us to draw near, He offers us a promise: if we take that step toward Him, He will meet us where we are. This invitation requires us to confront our own reluctance, fears, and habits that may keep us away from Him. Are we holding onto guilt or shame that prevents us from approaching His grace? Are we allowing the busyness of life to overshadow our need for spiritual connection?

Take a moment to reflect on what might be holding you back from Jesus. Is it fear, doubt, or perhaps the noise of daily life? Consider writing down your thoughts and praying over them, asking for God’s help in overcoming these obstacles.

Action Step:
This week, dedicate a few quiet moments each day to sit in silence and seek God’s presence. Use this time to read Scripture, pray, or simply be still. Allow Him to draw near to you as you take steps to draw near to Him.

Remember, the only thing that keeps you from Jesus is you. Embrace the invitation to come closer, for He is waiting with open arms, ready to welcome you into a deeper relationship filled with love, grace, and peace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, acknowledging the ways I may be keeping myself from experiencing Your presence fully. I seek Your forgiveness for the times I’ve allowed distractions and fears to draw me away from You. Help me to recognize the patterns in my life that keep me distant. Lord, I long for a deeper relationship with You, one that is filled with trust and love.

Please give me the strength to lay aside my burdens and approach You with confidence, knowing that You are always ready to receive me. Teach me to be still in Your presence and to listen for Your voice amidst the noise of my life. I ask that You clear my mind of any doubts and fill my heart with peace. May I find joy in seeking You daily, and may Your grace transform my relationship with You.

Help me to be intentional about carving out time for prayer and reflection, so I can grow closer to You. Draw me near, Lord, and let me feel Your embrace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
