February 14th 2019 – You Are Mine

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.I have called you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)

This is the month when you hear about love, and Valentines are everywhere you turn. Today, February 14, is the day we’ve chosen to celebrate with the ones we love.

On Valentine’s day isn’t it fun to dig through a box of those little candy hearts? The ones that have the words printed on them. They say little things like “SWEET”, “CUTE” or “KISS ME”. But the one that I like the best says, “YOU ARE MINE!”

The opening verse in Isaiah chapter 43 gives a beautiful picture of God saying those exact words to His beloved children of Israel. Even though they had wandered away from Him and He had to discipline them, He declares, “Don’t be afraid! I made you and I will take care of you. You are mine!” Then, as their loving Father, He gives them the promise of His presence, His protection, and His provision through it all.

“But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

So how can we know and express real love? It’s not lust or an emotion, or merely a sentimental state of mind. There is romantic love, and the love of family and friends. But, the Bible tells us the highest love is not based on feelings, but a commitment of our will. This love is patient and kind. It’s not envious or arrogant or rude. It’s not selfish or easily angered. It doesn’t keep a record of how others have wronged us. It puts up with a lot and endures with hope. It doesn’t run away when the going gets tough.

Real love never stops loving. God Is Love – and it’s real love. He shows us this love through the life and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. Have faith in Him and you can experience true love. His love will empower you to show real love to others

Ephesians 1:3-14 says that as a believer in Christ, God the Father does the same thing for you. He created you, He redeemed you, and He calls you to Himself saying, “You are accepted in the Beloved”– in essence, “You are Mine!” As a loving Father cares for His children, so He cares for you day after day, week after week, year after year. He loves you! You are His!

“Let all that you do be done with love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, what a thrill to hear Your words and to know that I belong to You! Thank You for creating me, for caring for me, for calling me Yours, and for the security that brings. I want to glorify my love for You by loving otherd as you have expressed Your love for me. I never knew true love until You taught me how to love. I am so greatful for the blessings that You have provided for me. I thank you for people who live me and I pray that I can express Your love through me. In Your precious name, Amen.

Experience a love like no other.

If you do not know Jesus personally, I encourage you not to pass up the precious gift of His love and eternal life. Jesus died on the cross for you and me. February 13th 2019 – Gods Amazing Love For Us

“When the Lord first began speaking to Israel through Hosea, he said to him, “Go and marry a prostitute, so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.” (Romans 1:2)

The book of Hosea opens up with drama. God has asked His prophet to marry a prostitute in order to demonstrate the relationship between Himself and Israel. As a loving husband, Hosea will cherish his wife and love her unconditionally, even in the midst of her sin. His loving actions stand as a beautiful picture of how God shows us Amazing Love and Grace even when we fall short of His perfection.

Even with this vivid image, its hard to imangine that a spouse would sneak around on the other if he or she truly loves them. Surely, in the story of Hosea she sees his acts of selflessness towards her. Surely, she has experienced his warm embrace and heard his gentle call. Why would she even consider running into the arms of another man? These are good questions, but we must take them a step further. Why would we choose run into sin knowing the love of God? How can we even think about sinning when God has given His life for us? The reason is that sin makes us blind to God’s love. We have to understand that the enemy will often create situations to snag us away from hearing God. We also need to rember that we all are born sinners. This is why we must run from it at all cost. As we run from our sin, we will more clearly understand the Amazing Love God has for us, and it will change our lives.

“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. (Psalm 86:5)

“To be able to truly love someone, you must first experience Gods ultimate Love for you, because God Himself is the true essence of love.” RL

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please forgive me for all the times I have forgotten Your love. Give me the power to overcome sin and to seek You with all my heart. Teach me through Your Word and guide me by Your Spirit to be able to love my spouse and others as You love me. Thank You for the precious gift of salvation. Thank You for making a way for me to be cleansed of all my sins. Lord, if I have sinned against You today, forgive me and help me live for You in all I do. Father, I stand on Your Truth in 1 John 1:9 that says if I confess my sins, You will cleanse me of all unrighteousness. Wash me clean and use me for Your kingdom today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do you want to experience the kind of Peace and Love that is only found in Jesus? Jesus died on the cross for you. He loves you and wants to help you. He wants to bring peace in your life. February 12th 2019 – What Do You Seek

“Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” (John 1:38)

That’s the question we need to have answered in our lives isn’t it? “What do you seek?” Is it a better marriage? A promotion at work, more money, more notoriety? Maybe to see your kids walking with the Lord? Are we seeking the Lord’s hand of blessing more than we are seeking the Lord Himself?

They once asked Jesus where He was staying. He told them to come and see. Where is the Lord in our lives? The Lord is saying to come and hang with Him. We ask where. The cross!

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24)

When we come to Jesus, not for His hand of blessing but for His will to be done in our lives. When we are willing to lay down our life for His sake, then He begins showing us things greater than we could possibly imagine.

In John 1:50  Jesus sees Nathaniel having devotions under the tree…

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” (John 1:50)

Please prioritize the Lord in your devotional life. Jesus is taking note. He then tells us “You will see greater things than these.” When we lay our life down for His sake, we find that all we ever needed was Jesus.

“You don’t know that Jesus is all you need Jesus is all you have.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me continue to seek You because I want to know You not just what You can give me. Please forgive me when I fail in this. Give me the power of Your Spirit to set my devotion upon You and Your will for me. I thank You Lord because I can trust You’ll do even greater things with my life as I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 11th 2019 – Don’t Comdemn Others

“Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.” (Romans 2:1)

In Romans chapter one, we learn about the unrighteousness of man. In chapter two, Paul addresses our self-righteousness; our desire to consider ourselves better than everybody else. Nobody wants to be called self-righteous, yet we are so quick to judge others. Always be aware of your own weakness and sinfulness. If you think that once you became a Christian you stopped sinning, you should check out the passage below:

“If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.” (1 John 1:8-10)

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged” (Matthew 7:1)

Judge yourself. If you look long at the sins of others and not enough at your own sins, you can develop a sense of spiritual pride, which is a stench to God. Have you ever looked at someone and thought there is no hope for them? Well then, you are making the statement that the mercy of God is limited. You are pridefully saying that your sins are covered, but another’s are not. Every person, whether we deem them good people or not, needs God’s saving power and grace. Stop and think… How much have you been forgiven? Does this mean we cannot speak into other’s lives? Absolutely we can and should, but not in condemnation. Just as God has heaped His grace so abundantly on you, in discernment you can speak into someone’s life from your experiences with an attitude of love, peppered with grace. You cannot condemn someone and offer hope at the same time. The moment we start to condemn people is the moment we forget our mission. What is our mission? Our mission is to tell people about Jesus.

“Seeing the evil in others does not root out the evil in you.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for forgiving me of my sins. I am so grateful for Your grace. Please forgive me for times when I, in my own pride, looked at someone else and condemned them in my mind. Please give me opportunities to tell people about Jesus. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 10th 2019 – Our Home In Heaven

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;” (2 Peter 3:14)

Some say, “It’s hard to beleive or It’s just wishful thinking.” God says it is reality. What am I talking about? I’m talking about a Christian’s future home in Heaven. This place of perfect beauty where the streets are gold and the river of living water flows. No more tears, no more pain and no more evil. This is the place we look forward to.

“Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. ” (Revelation 21:2)

So why did God give us such a vivid picture of Heaven? Just like a loving father desires to give good gifts to His children, God wanted us to catch a glimpse of the home He has prepared for us. This picture of Heaven was given to inspire us to persevere through this life. God wanted to, once again, show His love to us. He showed His love through the death and resurrection of Jesus, and now He shows us that His love for us extends into eternity in a place where God dwells with man. Now, with that inspirational look into Heaven, we are able to walk in joyful obedience to God. Loving God, loving others and changing this world. Are you ready? Take a long look at our future home and then let that inspire you to tell others how they can get there.

“Let God’s love motivate us to live for Him.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your amazing love. Not only did You give us eternal life through faith in Jesus, but we also have the hope of Heaven where there is great beauty and no pain. God, fill my thoughts with Your heavenly home so that I will be inspired to persevere through this world, sharing Your love with others and pointing them to a new home in Heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 7th 2019 – His Will, His Way

“He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” (Luke 9:2)

What is God’s will for your life? That’s the big question, isn’t it? Well, it’s really very simple. You see, many times when we ponder God’s will for our lives, we get very self-focused and miss the point. God’s will for our lives isn’t so much about us as it is about Him. Is living for God that hard for us to do after He died for us?

God revealed His will for all through His Son Jesus. Through repentance and forgiveness, we may feel we need to live a life of service and sacrifice. But God’s will is for you to love others and be a living testimony to the world. Do you have a concern, care and compassion for a world of people dying without Jesus? God’s will for your life is to lead others to salvation in Jesus. Be a steward of the Gospel by sowing into the lives of others, and you will see God’s will in action in your life.

“It is important to know God’s will for your life and live it out.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. I am so grateful that You did not leave me to live my life on my own. Thank You for having a plan for my life and revealing it through Your Word. Lord, I confess that I have tried to live my life my own way, and I am sorry. I want Your will for my life. Lord, help me to live out the plan You have for me. I give You my life to do Your will in Your way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 6th 2019 – Humbled Before God

“Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved? I awakened you under the apple tree. There your mother brought you forth; There she who bore you brought you forth.” (Song of Solomon 8:5)

While it may not seem a big deal to us today, in the time of Solomon, it was a great humble act for someone like a king to choose a commoner as his bride. Yet, despite the fact that she was a servant in the vineyards, Solomon found her under the apple tree and pursued her.

It could be said that it was his humility that began this great and passionate love that is revealed in the pages of Song of Solomon. Even in our own lives, it is often in those moments when we are humble before the Lord and others that we experience the power and blessings of God.

This was the case in my own life. I was a fairly new Christian of only few years. I had been praying much about a new job in a distant city. I got the news quickly that I got job. I found a perfect house right away. Everything was falling into place.. That’s what happens when God is working, Right?

Not long after moving there, I also got the news that that the company I went to work for scrapped the construction project of the project over permit issues. I was now without a job.

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10 Partial)

For the first time in my life I was unable to find a another job. I was completely alone and absent from any friends and family. I was so depressed that I didnt even eat 8 days. I was again at one of the lowest points of my life, I felt angry at God, broken and completely alone. It reminded me of the horrific pain I went through six years earlier when my wife abandoned me for another man.

It was also the first time I can remember really asking God for help. I came to him with nothing but humbleness.  I cried in His presence for hours.

It was at that point that my life completely changed. All of the prayers that I prayed in Gods presence were answered exactly as I had prayed. That following day, I found a job, I met my beautiful wife and her wonderful family. I was even able find some temporary work to hold me over until I found a another job. God was actually working and answering my prayers all along. Even though it didn’t seem like it at the time.

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10)

I have learned that humility is not debilitating of ourselves, but a right understanding of who we are in light of God and His majesty. When we understand that we deserve nothing from God because of our sin, we are brought low before Him. Yet, once we realize the great love that the Lord has for us, we are brought high into His presence by His grace. It’s in this attitude of humility and love that we are able to truly enjoy the life God has given us.

“Humility prepares our hearts to rightly receive God’s blessings.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that I am undeserving of Your blessings and yet, I praise You for the loving kindness You have shown towards me. Help me to walk in humility so that I may experience this life in light of Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you are in a spot that your life is not going as you planned, try humbleness and ask Jesus for help. He stands at the door waiting for you to open it and let Him in.

February 5th 2019 – Follow Jesus Before You Lead Others

“When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan” (Proverbs 29:2)

I am convinced that there is really no such thing as the gift of leadership. Rather, there are many gifts that can be used to lead people, whether it is leading in public office  or leading people in their walk with the Lord.

The true key to leadership though is knowing who your leader really is. As people come and go, the Lord has promised to be by your side and never forsake you. We are all called to follow, just as Christ called his first disciples to follow Him. And as we follow God, we become leaders of men… or fishers of men, depending on your choice of profession.

Leadership is something we become as followers of God and Christ. It is a lifelong process of learning and growing. The good news is that we already have all we need to follow before we can lead!

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, (A)and to still another the interpretation of tongues. (B) All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:20)

What are your spiritual gifts? If you are unsure, consider asking your friends or you can take an assessment test online..

What contributions do you feel you can make to the Body of Christ? Consider sharing with someone who can keep you accountable with your growth in development of your gifts… like any muscle in your body, gifts can atrophy if not used regularly.

The body of Christ is not merely one part or another. Do you have a group of friends that exhibit different gifts than yourself and are there areas where you can exercise these gifts for the building of the body?

Following God can be hard at times. Turbulence is common in our walks with God. God promises each believer a gift of the Spirit, though the gift and quantity of gifts may differ. We all have at least one gift to be used for the building of the Body of Christ. Be encouraged that God has given you all the tools you need to be a leader in Christ!

“A true sheppard leads the way, he does not merely point the way.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are such a great leader, please continue to draw me close and not only guide me but may I continue to grow in the spirit of a leader! I pray to be humbled by the spirit so that I never forget to always follow You as I am leading others closer to meet You. I thank you for always showing up when I need your instruction. May they see Your love and wisdom flow in me. In Jesus name, Amen.

Seeking Jesus in your life?

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

February 4th 2019 – God’s Love is Eternal and Never Fails

“Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.” (1 Corinthians 13:8)

Have you ever thought about love in the light of eternity? One day all that we know here on earth will be changed. When Christ appears in all His glory, heaven will come to earth and our lives, homes, bodies and relationships will change forever. Yet, there is one thing that will never change. That thing is love. When we see Christ face to face, we will no longer need faith. As we glimpse the realities of heaven all around us, we will no longer cling to hope of a better day. But love will never disappear. The love that created the world and gave life to humanity will still sustain the saints in heaven. The love that walked out of heaven and went to the cross is the same love that prepared a place for us for all eternity. And, the same love that strengthens us in this life is the same love that welcomes us into the next. This love never fails, never wavers and never grows weary. This love is the love of God.

(1 John 4:19) “We love Him because He first loved us.”

Because this love will always remain, let us begin loving even now. We will spend eternity with our brothers and sisters in Christ, so why not love them now? As we love each other with the love given to us through Christ, the world will see it and desire the same. When they do, we can point them to the never-ending source of love, Jesus.

“Love releases the power of the Spirit in our lives and in our churches.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the love You have shown me. Help me to love others in the same way You have loved me. Use me today to share the love of God with someone I see. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 2nd 2019 – Willing and Available

“Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.” (Acts 13:3-5)

In the book of Acts, the progression of the life of Paul is revealed. Initially, we see Paul fighting against God. Paul is living out his life doing his ‘own thing’ when he meets God in a very real way. Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus began this progression where we see him begin to give his life over to God. The book of Acts allows us to watch first hand as we see this man give his life away. One danger is to look at Paul’s life and think, “Wow, that was great for Paul, but can my life really make a difference?” I used to ask myself the same question, but not anymore.

You see, one of the beautiful truths of God’s Word is that God will work through anybody who is willing. He is not looking for ability, but for availability. Throughout the Bible we see men and women accomplishing great and incredible things. These men and women had some of the same weaknesses and wanderings we do, yet the Lord used them to touch many lives. The most difficult part of this journey is the first step. I encourage you to take the first step. Step out in faith and begin to walk the incredible journey God has planned for you. You will look back in amazement at what the Lord will do. I know I do every day.

“We all should be ministers and make a difference in this world.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You tell us to pray for workers in the harvest. Lord, I want to pray that You make me a worker in the harvest. Whatever my gifts and abilities are I lay them before You now and ask You to work through me to help change this world. I know I am not saved through these acts of service, but because I am grateful for Your forgiveness, I desire to serve so others may come to know You. I am a Christian because someone cared. Now it is my turn. In Jesus’ precious and glorious name, Amen.
