“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.’” (Matthew 16:24)

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it’s all too easy to become overwhelmed and distracted, pulled in various directions by the demands of everyday responsibilities, personal ambitions, and the constant clamor of our surroundings. Yet, amidst this whirlwind, Jesus extends a profound and heartfelt invitation to us: “Follow Me.” This call is not simply about a physical journey; rather, it encompasses a deep, transformative spiritual expedition that requires not just our actions but the very essence of our hearts, minds, and souls.

To truly follow Jesus implies a genuine desire to seek Him wholeheartedly, to align our lives with His teachings, and to embody His example of unwavering love, boundless compassion, and self-sacrifice. This invitation challenges us to step away from our own selfish inclinations and to place our trust in His divine purpose for our lives. Each step we take in obedience to His call brings us closer to discovering our true purpose and experiencing the profound fulfillment that comes from living in accordance with His will.

What does it mean for you, on a personal level, to follow in the footsteps of Jesus? Are there specific areas in your life where you feel a divine invitation to surrender and trust Him more completely? Take a moment to reflect on the times when you have sensed His guiding presence in your life. Remember that following Him may not always lead us down an easy path; often, it involves navigating challenges that refine our character and deepen our faith.

Set aside some intentional time today for prayer and introspection. Invite God to uncover areas of your life where you can follow Him more closely and wholeheartedly. As you reflect, jot down any thoughts, insights, or revelations that come to you. Consider sharing your journey with a trusted friend or joining a small group where you can uplift and encourage one another in your faith journeys.

Following Jesus is not merely a one-time decision but rather a daily commitment to actively walk in His ways and live out His teachings. Embrace the exciting adventure of faith, for He assures us that wherever He guides, His presence will always accompany us.

When you choose to follow Him, you will never find yourself walking alone.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gentle and loving invitation to follow You. Help me to deny my own selfish desires and to embrace the daily cross I am called to bear, trusting in Your guidance every step of the way. May I seek to know You more intimately, to truly hear Your voice amidst the noise, and to reflect Your love and grace in every interaction I have. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and lead me on this beautiful journey of discipleship. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

And I said: “Hear now, O heads of Jacob, And you rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice?” (Micah 3:1)

Today’s society is fast paced and full of busyness. But what are we busy doing? Is it trying to live life with a mission to better ourselves? Any of us who have tried to live this kind of life know that we are never satisfied even when we achieve our goals. If we have a relationship with Jesus, is it not for us to know justice? If we claim to be a follower of Jesus, we have a responsibility to live a Godly life everywhere we go. God has showed us that life is not about us, it’s about knowing Him, loving Him and loving others. If anyone should know that, it is the body of Christ – those who have been forgiven of their sins. Now that God has blessed us with His forgiveness, He desires that we share His love with others. The world needs us to be an example of living the Bible so that they too are drawn to Christ. They need answers, and for us to say we are “Christians” and live our life in pursuit of personal gain would only be a contradiction to who we say we follow.

“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith… Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? – unless indeed you are disqualified.” (2 Corinthians 13:5-6)

So let’s stand before God often and ask Him to reveal things in our life that are not pleasing to Him. As we do that, the world will not have any stones to throw. They will be drawn to Jesus and living their life for Him just like we should.

“The world is looking for answers, not for hypocrites.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for forgiving me of my sins. Help me to live a disciple’s life wherever I go. Please remove those things that are not pleasing to You so others are not confused. Thank You Lord, for using me to change lives for eternity just like you changed mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Then his wife said to him (job), “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” (Job 2:9)

In the Book of Job. (pronounced “Jobe”) It begins with an introduction to Job’s character, he is described as a blessed man who lived righteously in the Land of Uz. The Lord’s praise of Job prompted Satan to challenge Job’s integrity, suggesting that Job served God simply because God protected him.  Satan caused much pain and greif for him, tormenting Job to try to break his faith.

We often think, well, Satan left Job’s wife alive because she was carnal. That could be. It’s interesting we are not told where she is in her faith before this statement. Maybe she was walking with the Lord before losing her wealth, her house and grounds, her children and is now watching her husband in pain. And maybe just giving in, she said “Curse God and die, I give up Job!”

This can happen to any of us. We all go through hard times, and it’s easy to speak poorly during those times. Be watchful of anyone speaking contrary to the Word, or speaking negatively in hard times. Be the person who speaks life, who speaks the truth, and speaks love. Allow God to use you to bring healing to others who are hurting, and to empower you to be a witness for His glory even while you are going through hard times.

“The beauty and strength of a marriage is that often when one is weak, the other is strong.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for empowering us through Your Spirit to speak life and blessings to others even during the hard times. Help us to be loving when it’s someone else hurting, and help us to speak wisely when we are hurting. We lift up to You all those in our life going through difficult situations, and ask You to use us to be a blessing in all of our relationships. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” (John 1:38)

That’s the question we need to have answered in our lives isn’t it? “What do you seek?” Is it a better marriage? A promotion at work, more money, more notoriety? Maybe to see your kids walking with the Lord? Are we seeking the Lord’s hand of blessing more than we are seeking the Lord Himself?

They once asked Jesus where He was staying. He told them to come and see. Where is the Lord in our lives? The Lord is saying to come and hang with Him. We ask where. The cross!

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24)

When we come to Jesus, not for His hand of blessing but for His will to be done in our lives. When we are willing to lay down our life for His sake, then He begins showing us things greater than we could possibly imagine.

In John 1:50  Jesus sees Nathaniel having devotions under the tree…

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” (John 1:50)

Please prioritize the Lord in your devotional life. Jesus is taking note. He then tells us “You will see greater things than these.” When we lay our life down for His sake, we find that all we ever needed was Jesus.

“You don’t know that Jesus is all you need Jesus is all you have.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me continue to seek You because I want to know You not just what You can give me. Please forgive me when I fail in this. Give me the power of Your Spirit to set my devotion upon You and Your will for me. I thank You Lord because I can trust You’ll do even greater things with my life as I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

Dear Dad,

Please make my heart long for your words more than anything else. Open my eyes so I can see amazing things in the Bible. Unify my heart in fearing you and only you. Satisfy me with your unfailing love.

I ask that all people, including me, would honor you and uphold your reputation by both our words and our actions.
I ask that your sovereignty would become tangible and evident in people and nature around the world.
And I ask that today, and each day forward my actions and leadership of my family would align with your plans for my life.
I want to please you.

I’m needy, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally; please give me everything I need for today. When I stumble and sin, please forgive me. May I forgive others and show them grace as you do for me. Don’t put me on the path of temptation, because I’m not very good at resisting it. Please rescue me from the evil one.

And now, I’m going to be happy because of everything you have done for me! I’ve cried for help so many times, and you always comfort me and save me through the hardest times. I want to trust you more and more with everything. You paid the ransom for my life; I’m yours now. And you are mine too! I pray that You won’t hold yourself back from me, and that I get to know you more and more each day.

How is it that you show me so much attention when I’m so small? I’m overwhelmed by how a God so powerful and famous shows so obviously that he cares about me and my life. Thank you for always being with me! Thank you that I don’t have to be ashamed of myself

Thank you for my beautiful spouse, thank you for my children, my parents, my good friends and the special ones that you have led into my life to help guide and teach me in your ways.

I LOVE YOU.

Obviously that was a prayer of mine today, dont let this opportunity pass to give thanks for the people and the circumstances that God has had His hand on. Take a moment to let your loved ones know how much you love them, forgive them for any hurts that may have caused you, ask forgiveness for anything you may have done to hurt them. Please don’t wait another day, don’t wait until later, do it now. You never know when they will leave this earth and you won’t have the opportunity to do so. I lost my father when I was 22, I was unsaved and there is so much I wish I could say now.

May the Spirt of God overwhelm you today, and may God bless you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the amazing love You have shown me. Thank you for the people that you have brought into my life that exhibit the love of Christ as well. Help me to grasp this love so that I will be able to love others in the same way. Strip me of any excuses and use me to reach others with the love of Jesus. In Your glorious and precious name, Amen.

Reach out to God and ask Him to show you His fatherly love, you will not be disappointed. Remember, He is all He says He is!

Let’s explore the profound metaphor of “Fishers of Men” This analogy speaks to our calling as believers to share the love and message of God with others, just as fishermen cast their nets to catch fish. Let us delve into this concept and discover its significance for our lives.

Imagine, if you will, the serene scene by the shores of the sea. Picture a group of fishermen, going about their daily work, casting their nets into the waters. Jesus, in His wisdom, used this everyday scene to teach His followers about their purpose and mission in life.

1. A Divine Call – Jesus called His disciples to become “fishers of men,” inviting them to leave behind their former lives and follow Him. This call extends to us today. We are chosen and called by God to be His representatives in the world, to share His love, and to bring others into a vibrant relationship with Him.

“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’” (Matthew 4:19)

2. Casting Our Nets – Just as fishermen cast their nets into the sea, we are called to cast our nets of love, compassion, and the message of salvation into the world around us. This involves stepping out of our comfort zones, reaching out to those who are hurting, lost, or in need of the hope that only Christ can provide. Let us be intentional in our actions, seeking opportunities to share God’s love with those we encounter.

“As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.” (Mark 1:16-18)

3. Trusting in God’s Providence – Fishing requires faith and trust in the provision of God. Fishermen cast their nets and wait, knowing that their catch is ultimately in God’s hands. Similarly, as we engage in sharing the Gospel, we must trust in God’s timing and His ability to work in the lives of those we reach. We plant the seeds, but it is God who brings the increase. Let us have faith that He will bring forth a bountiful harvest.

“Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’ So, they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.” (Luke 5:10-11)

4. Nurturing and Discipling – Once the fish are caught, fishermen take care of their catch, ensuring their well-being and growth. Similarly, we are called to nurture and disciple those who respond to the message of Christ. We walk alongside them, guiding, teaching, and supporting them on their journey of faith. Let us be a source of encouragement, offering guidance and sharing the wisdom and truth found in God’s Word.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

The significance of being fishers of men.

May we embrace our divine call, casting our nets of love and truth into the world around us. Let us trust in God’s provision and timing, knowing that He is at work in the lives of those we encounter. And may we faithfully nurture and disciple those who respond, guiding them towards a deeper relationship with Christ. Remember, our role as fishers of men is not limited to a select few; it is an invitation for all believers to participate in the redemptive work of God. May we embrace this calling wholeheartedly and be ambassadors of His love and grace in the world.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We come before you today with humble hearts, seeking your guidance and strength to be fishers of men, just as Jesus called his disciples to be. We acknowledge that it is through your power and grace that we can fulfill this calling. We ask for your wisdom and discernment as we interact with others, that we may have the right words to share the good news of your love and salvation. Help us to see people as you see them, with compassion and a desire for their spiritual well-being.

Grant us the courage to step out of our comfort zones, to reach out to those who are lost and searching for meaning in their lives. Give us opportunities to build relationships and establish connections with those who are in need of your saving grace. We also ask for your patience and perseverance as we walk alongside those we are discipling. Help us to be good listeners, ready to offer guidance and support. Give us the words to speak truth and love into their lives, pointing them towards you and helping them grow in their faith.

May your Holy Spirit empower us to be effective witnesses of your truth, shining your light in the darkness. Give us boldness to share our testimonies and the hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

Father, we surrender our own desires and agendas, and ask that you align our hearts with yours. Help us to be obedient to your leading, following your example of love and service. We ask all these things in Jesus precious name, Amen.

“He had attached himself to the governor, Sergius Paulus, a man of considerable insight and understanding. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul to visit him, for he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas, the sorcerer (as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Saul and Barnabas said. He was trying to turn the governor away from the Christian faith.” (Acts 13:7-8)

In this story, we see the governor torn between Saul and Barnabas, who meant him well, and Elymas who tried to keep the governor from hearing about God. I believe we can relate to this in the many struggles in our own lives. We want to hear the Word of God, like during a teaching, but sometimes we allow ourselves to be talked out of it.

Some of the things that can make a huge difference in our spiritual growth is reading the bible, going to bible studies and reading devotions. It encourages us, challenges us, and the bible studies allows worship and fellowship with one another. It is obvious why the enemy of our souls would not want us in that kind of environment. He will try to use our friends, family and loved ones to keep us from church, serving, giving, praying and reading the Bible. Above all the noise; however, the voice of Jesus rings true. Come to Him and He will give you rest. The world says ‘get’, Jesus says ‘give’. The world says focus on ‘you’. Jesus says focus on ‘others’ and upon Him. Be careful what voice you listen to. It is very important.

“If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Help me to hear Your voice over all the outside noise in my life. Lord, it seems that others in this wotld try to pull me down or keep me in sin. Help me during those weak moments to know what You would say to me. Help me to hear and respond to Your voice and know that I am forgiven. Help me to fellowship with and love others around me. Thank You for continuing to call me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go away, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7)

In our discussions about faith, we often focus on Jesus and the Father, yet we sometimes overlook the significance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus emphasized the importance of waiting for the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live out our faith. It’s essential to recognize that the Holy Spirit is as much a part of the Godhead as the Father and the Son, and we should take time to understand His role in our lives.

In this passage, Jesus reassures us that His departure is necessary for the Holy Spirit to come. It’s natural to desire the physical presence of Jesus, as the disciples did. However, Jesus explains that the Holy Spirit is an incredible gift, one who can be with us always, transcending physical limitations. Unlike Jesus, who was bound to a physical body, the Holy Spirit is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. He fills every believer, providing comfort, guidance, and strength.

Today, we can rejoice in the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells within us once we accept Jesus as our Savior. He is our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby. Let us take a moment to express our gratitude for His presence and assistance in our daily lives. The promise that He will never leave us or forsake us is a profound assurance of God’s love.

“When we pray for the Holy Spirit’s help, we will simply fall down at the Lord’s feet in our weakness. There we will find the victory and power that comes from His love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the incredible gift of the Holy Spirit within me. I am grateful for Your presence, which empowers and guides me on my journey. Fill me each day with love and faith that overflows into the lives of others. May they see Your Spirit at work in me, and use me as a vessel to share Your gospel.

I praise You for all who have chosen to follow You, and I cherish the moment I accepted You into my life. I once lived in darkness, but You have set me free. Thank You for Your unwavering love and grace. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.
