“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
I must buy a new Bible soon!” a friend of mine recently told his neighbor. “My old one is nearly worn out!”`”Worn out!” the neighbor responded incredulously.”`”How could that be? Why, I’ve had that one there on the bookshelf for thirty years and it’s as good as new!” My friend just smiled. He used his Bible faithfully every day. Thinking about it, he realized that worn-out Bible stood as a symbol of the spiritual lessons he had learned and the physical healings he had over many years. A feeling of richness and gratitude resounded in his heart.
When it comes to our Bibles, the same is true for a lot of people. Many haven’t even opened them in years. This is why I think it is very important to bring your Bible to church. It seems bizarre to me when I see people going to church without a Bible, and when I see preachers who don’t preach the Bible. It does matter what God’s Word has to say. So it is important to read your Bible.
It has been said that a Bible that is falling apart is usually an indication of a life that isn’t. So I like to see worn-out Bibles. The devil will do everything He can to keep us away from the Word of God. So let’s use our Bibles.
What about your Bible? Is it wearing out? If it is, good for you! Of course, it’s the pages I really mean the paper, the binding, the page corners. The Bible itself will never wear out. The truths in the verses and stories on its pages are as eternal as the love of God Himself. The Bible is the vital story of our own lives today. It is a timeless, relevant book.
“Daily bible reading is a great prompt to own our failures, repent, and cast ourselves on His grace all over again.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank you for Your precious written word available to me in my bible. Thank You for the wonderful way You reveal Yourself to me in the words of my bible. I want to know You more and love You more. Please help me commit my heart to seek You and grow in my understanding of who You are and how much You love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
