“Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.” (1 Timothy 1:19)
Early this morning there was a 7.9 earthquake off of the cost of Southwest Alaska. This major event triggered Tsunami alerts as far South as Los Angeles . An ocean monitoring buoy 1 hr from the from the epic center experienced a 35 foot drop on the open sea. Prayers go out for all affected, including all of the people on the watercraft in the path the tsunami.
All of us hope for clear sailing in the sea of life. But there are events and storms that come our way, and there are shipwrecks that we will encounter. With storms, we often can see them in the horizon, but with earthquakes, they happen with very little warning. We will have things happen in our lives that we are not prepared for and don’t make sense.
The apostle Paul went through three literal shipwrecks during his lifetime (see 2 Corinthians 11:25). Now, that would cure you of ocean travel. But Paul also wrote about people who had their faith shipwrecked. In his letters to Timothy, he warned, “Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. Hymenaeus and Alexander are two examples . . .” (1 Timothy 1:19–20).
Some people have had their faith shipwrecked. I have seen it happen. Sometimes when people are facing a tragedy, they say, “I’ve lost my faith through this.”
But let me say in response that maybe they didn’t have real faith to begin with, because the faith that cannot be tested is the faith that cannot be trusted. The Bible says that “when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow” (James 1:3).
If your faith can’t stand a test, then it is not real faith, and honestly if you lost it, I am glad you did! Get rid of it, and replace it with real faith in a real God. When Christians go through a time of crisis, our faith should not be destroyed. We should not lose it. Instead, our faith should grow stronger because we are clinging to the Lord through all of it.
***Warning***
Earthquakes and storms will be coming, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, maybe not for a year. But they will come eventually. So be prepared for them.
“Feeling shipwrecked? Cling To Your Faith!”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I am grateful that You are the Rock that I can stand on and an ever present help in times of need. Lord, in those times I feel shipwecked and lost at sea, remind me of Your faithfulness and love. May Your Spirit lead me to draw close to You and trust in Your Word over my feelings. I choose tk cling to my faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Is Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life? Did you once fallow Him but now are adrift?
Pray this prayer and start a new life, or recommit to to Jesus.
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
