“In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. (John 4:31-34)
“A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” (John 4:7-10)
I have a question for you. What you you hunger for in life? In the scriptures above, The disciples had a meal, and one they had to ponder, and that’s fine. It’s important to take care of those basics of life, but Jesus is pointing them and us to something greater, a harvest of souls of men, women, and children that need to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus spent His lunchtime not physically eating, but rather conversing with the Samaritan woman at the well leading her to the saving grace of God. The Samaritan woman then made her way into the city speaking to the men of Samaria sharing her testimony about Christ. Then they began making their way toward Jesus and the disciples.
We have to remember that the Jewish people considered the Samaritans a people that they did not care for. Jesus was willing to minister to these people who were outcasts. He saw them as part of the harvest. God is desiring for us also to participate with Him in this harvest, but the harvest is found in the problem people and problematic circumstances that surround our day to day life. If a particular group of people come to mind when you think ‘problem people’ it could be that the Lord is laying these people in front of you to be pursuing, praying for, and proclaiming the goodness of the gospel to. Who could the Lord be trying to point out to you? Ask the Spirit of God to pour into your heart the love of God for those people today. Ask for boldness to speak, serve, and see His love and truth manifested in the problems and problem people in your life today. Let’s have a hunger for the harvest!
“God often uses the ‘Problem People’ in our lives in His desire to bring a Harvest in us and to us. We need to see God’s purpose in the problem.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to see people as You see them. Help me to have a heart for the harvest like You have. Please forgive me for my lack of hunger for the harvest and please give me a continual appetite for Your will in all areas of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
