October 12th 2015 – Your Body is a Temple

images-286

“I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” (Romans 12:1)

“When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and are baptized you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). God’s Spirit actually makes it’s dwelling in you. You then become a “temple” designed for the worship of our God. It is a sanctuary for service in His Kingdom.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)

Above the Apostle Paul tells us that our bodies ARE the temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul was talking about sexual immorality when he wrote that verse to the Christians of Corinth. But the verse has a broader meaning. It means you don’t want to mess up the temple with hidden sins of any kind. It means that you don’t want to desecrate the temple with any foreign substances like tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or food. It means we want it to look nice so we take care of it by cleaning it, clothing it modestly, and making it presentable. It means that we take everything out that prevents us from serving and worshiping God and honoring him.

So lets do our best to take care of the bodies that God gave us, let’s make a comfortable place for the Spirit to live, work and guide us.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I praise your Holy Name. My life is yours…a temple for your Spirit… a place of worship 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Please help me to clean up and make it a presentable and fit place for service in your kingdom. I pray these things in the name of your Son and my Savior, Jesus. Amen.

“JESUS says, ‘IF you love Me , you will obey My Words; and My Father will Love you, and WE will come to you and make OUR HOME with you. He who does not love ME does not keep MY WORDS; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the FATHER who sent ME. ‘ ” JOHN 14:23,24

    Very enlightening…

I feel as a Christian that has accept God into ones heart, we truly feel the defiling of ones temple when we go against the word. I’m sure most of us at some point have felt that unsettling feeling or even that overwhelming voice within ourselves letting us know how we have just defected from where we should be. In my thoughts, this is God speaking to us… He is pure so when engaging in things that are not, it’s like trying to mix oil with water. They will never combine, they will resist each other indefinitely…

These words may sound a bit self righteous and maybe hypocritical coming from an imperfect person. In the end though… I think it’s about consistently striving to smooth out our rough edges, through this our love for him is expressed.

This may sound somewhat off to some, just posting from what’s within me.
