June 3rd 2017 – Where God Guides, God Provides

“And Abraham called the name of the place, The Lord Will Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
(Genesis 22:14)

Abraham was willing to give his all unto the Lord. In obedience to God he was willing to let go of the next most beloved thing in his lifeñhis son. Jesus said this about our following of Him:

(Matthew 10:37) “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.”

What do you and I put in front of the Lord in our lives? Is it our marriage, kids, work, or our own self interests? God is able to do such an amazing thing in our hearts and lives if we’d simply yield to Him as Abraham did in this chapter. Abraham was willing to offer his only son in obedience, but God instead offered Himself as the sacrifice (Genesis 22:8) through Christ who was to come. Abraham was told his descendants would be as the stars in the sky, basically innumerable. So it is for us in our time of testing. When we yield to the Lord in spite of the pain or difficulty in the current situation, we can trust by faith that the Lord will provide exponential blessing and goodness upon our lives.

“Giving our all to God will yield countless blessings many of which we may never come to know till we are in the presence of God.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me identify those things that have priority over my heart instead of You. Please give me the grace to be willing to forsake all and follow You in all my ways. Help instill in me that You have a plan and are in control. I love You and want the blessing You have for me and my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

June 2nd 2017 – Lay it Down

“For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true.” (2 Corinthians 7:14)

Are you carrying something around today that God never intended you to carry? The shame and guilt of each of our lives is one of the greatest burdens we hold, but often we are crushed by it because we refuse to put it down. Some of you may have awakened this morning to a flood of memories of past sins and evil intentions. Maybe it’s not something you did, but something someone did to you and you have held onto unforgiveness. Whatever the case may be, God desires to remove that burden of sin and shame from you and in return, give you new life.

(Matthew 11:28-30) “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Shame and guilt will sink even the most powerful Christians, but even for the weakest believer, there is rest for their soul as they hand over their shame to Jesus. You see friend, when Jesus was on the cross, the Bible tells us that our shame was nailed up there with Him. All our evil thoughts, actions and words were placed there to be destroyed forever. When we ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins, He wipes those sins away along with the shame that is attached to them. Because of Jesus, we can lay down our guilt and shame never having to pick them up again.

“Lay it down at the foot of the cross..”

Prayet:

Heavenly Father, I know I have done wrong things, and I come today asking again for your forgiveness. Wipe away the sin and the shame that is with it. Help me to focus on You and the love You have for me. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I can encourage others to find rest in You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

June 1st 2017 – Let Your Light Shine

“All they knew was that people were saying, “The one who used to persecute us is now preaching the very faith he tried to destroy!” And they praised God because of me.” (Galatians 1:23-24)

God is in the business of using our lives, no matter our past mistakes. Paul had persecuted the church and then he became one leading the church. God was using Paul and his past to be a witness of God’s power and grace.

God wants to do the same with you. I know it sounds a little crazy, but it’s true. God wants to use your life to be a light in a dark world. “But you don’t know what I’ve done in my past.” I may not, but God does and he says that those things are forgiven. Don’t dwell on those things, confess them to the Lord and then move on in faith. Share your testimony, love your enemy, give to the needy or whatever else God may have you do. We are only on this earth for a short time. Use every moment for the Lord and you will find incredible joy in the adventure. Since we are only on Earth for a little while, we should do things that will shine forever.

“Let it Shine!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace. Thank You for saving me and empowering me with the Holy Spirit so that I can live for You. Use my life to shine Your love and Truth to everyone around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 31st 2017 – Safe and Secure with Jesus

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)

I want you to know how safe and secure you are in God’s presence. If you know Jesus personally, You are on your way to heaven, nothing can prevent you from reaching that destination. There you will see Him face to face, and your Joy will be off the charts by any earthly standards. Even now, you are never separated from Him, though you must see God through eyes of faith. He will walk with you till the end of time, and onward into eternity.

Although there are times that we may not always feel His presence in our lives. Here are just a few of God promises:

(Deuteronomy 31:6) Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you;” He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

(Deuteronomy 31:8) “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.  “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

(Joshua 1:5) “No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

(1 Kings 8:57) “May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may He never leave us nor forsake us.”

(Hebrews 13:5)  “Keep your lives free from the love of money andbe content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

We may chose to leave God, but He will never leave us.  No matter how bleak the situation, no matter how empty the feeling comes, God will never leave you!  His promises are true.  His word is above all!  We can move forward because, He goes before us.  And if God be for us, who can be against us?

When you forget that He is with you, you may experience loneliness or fear. It is through awareness of His Presence that Peace displaces negative feelings. Practice discipline of walking consciously with Jesus through each and every day.

“God’s promise, Safe and Secure in His presence”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for walking with me and giving me peace. I surrender each day to you that you will use me to help others get to know you. My you continue to mold me into the person you have destined me to become. I love you Lord. In jesus’ name. Amen

May 30th 2017 – Believe God

“The official pleaded, “Lord, please come now before my little boy dies. Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!”  And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.” (John 4:49-50 )

How much stress and trouble could we avoid if we simply did what the father in John chapter 4 did? What if we stopped in the middle of crummy circumstances and sticky situations and chose to believe the Word that Jesus has spoken to us? Many of us read the newspaper or watch the news and believe it. We read stuff on the Internet and believe it. We read the Bible and sometimes we think, “Well, that doesn’t apply to me or my situation.”

Sometimes we believe our emotions, fickle though they are, over the Word of God. We listen to the skeptics and the naysayers. We listen to our experiences as well as our faulty interpretation of events. Of all the things that we can listen to and believe, the Word of God is the most reliable. It has proven its sturdiness many times through the centuries. It has outlasted all of its critics and still stands ever faithful and true. Many voices are calling out for your attention. Which one will you choose to act on and believe? I choose to believe Jesus and the Word He has spoken to me.

(Mark 9:23)  “Everything is possible for the person who believes!”

“We need to trust God, the Word of God and believe the Bible.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your steadfast love. Thank You that Your Word has stood the test of time and remains the source of truth and light for every situation in our lives. Please continue this work of opening my heart up to the amazing faithfulness of Your Bible. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 29th 2017 – The Power of Forgiveness

“And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” (Acts 7:59-60)

Jesus gives so many wonderful things to those who follow Him. Some of them are obvious and some are not so obvious. Forgiveness is an obvious and incredible benefit to a relationship with Jesus. Our ability to forgive others is a benefit that might not be so obvious. Matthew, before following Jesus, was a tax collector. In his book, Matthew recorded a pertinent parable from Jesus. In this story, a certain man owed a king a great deal of money. The king was moved by compassion for this man and forgave him of all his debts. Ironically, this forgiven man was also owed money by another. Instead of offering compassion as the king had toward him, he had the man thrown into prison. When the king found out… well here is what happened.

(Matt 18:32-34) “Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?”

You have the power to forgive just as you have been forgiven. Each of us has sinned many more times against God than others have against us. Since we have been forgiven of so much, we should in turn forgive. Forgiving or not forgiving others is an act of your own will. It’s your choice. But to forgive others is imitating Christ. Jesus did it, Stephen did it, and you can do it.

Do not carry baggage from people who have wronged you.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for forgiving me of so much. I ask You now to help me forgive others. When bad and painful memories come to me, I ask that I would again be reminded to forgive those who have wronged me. I need Your help to do this because sometimes I don’t feel like forgiving. Thank You for setting me free from carrying this baggage and guilt around. Thank You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

May 28th 2017 – Connected in Christ

“I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me.” (2 Corinthians 2:5)

The church of Jesus Christ is a family. In fact, I would say it can be an even deeper relationship than those found in a family. As believers, we weep together over heartaches, rejoice together in victories and share our lives with each other. This is not odd; this is the way God intended it to be.

(Romans 12:5) “so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”

If I was to cut myself and you began to bleed, we would definitely know there was a deep connection between us. In the church, we all are connected. When something good happens to you, I will be there to rejoice with you. Unfortunately, sometimes there are Christians who would rather pout over the blessing of another believer than to experience the joy of celebration with them. That person is missing out on one of the many joys of the church. Today, look for ways to connect with other believers. If they are struggling, then be there with them. If they are excited, then cheer them on as they seek Christ. Let’s unite under the name of Christ and find fresh unity among all believers.

“When part of the body is hurt, we all feel their pain. When part of the body is attacked, we all stand with them.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your church and the fellowship of believers. Help us all to remain united and not to allow petty issues to cause division. Give me a heart that rejoices with others and is willing to mourn with them as well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

May 27th 2017 – Live an Adventurous Life

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.” (Acts 2:17-18)

That verse above does not say “all churches” or “all Christians”… it says “all flesh.” Well, surely God meant to only say “Christians”, right? No, He meant “all flesh.” Do you have any  friends or relatives that aren’t Christians, that don’t know Jesus? Sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nephews, or nieces? God is pouring out His Spirit to all people and wooing them. The Holy Spirit is wooing them. This is what God is doing. He is giving them an opportunity over and over to choose Him. And God has given us His Holy Spirit. He uses us to be witnesses, to be bold in sharing with others the truth of His scriptures.

(Acts 1:8) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

People are looking at people differently, looking at Christians differently. The world is not changing for the better, it’s changing for the worse. But we are changing for the better and that change is how God wants to use you to share your faith with others.

(Ephesians 2:10)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

We were created for good works. As we grow spiritually we grow in the love of Christ. So be a doer and be creative in the ways that you do the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will show you how to do it. He will show you how to pray for the sick, to share Jesus with most people. You might wind up having a barbecue and invite your neighbor, or help someone when you see a car with a flat tire. The Holy Spirit will lead you into any and all of those things and the Holy Spirit makes a difference between a dull boring life and a vibrant over flowing adventure that we were created for.

“Your life is anything but dull or boring. You are filled with the Spirit of God for an adventure.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Continue to open my heart to share with other people. Help me to take moments to share with my family and friends about Your love and goodness. Thank You for giving me the power of Your Holy Spirit. Continue to change me Help me live an adventurous life sharing your word forgiveness and everlasting life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 26th 2017 – Follow the Leader, Imitate Christ

“And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1)

In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul is making a bold statement. He is calling the church at Corinth to pattern itself after him. Now, Paul is not saying he is the one they should worship but rather as he follows after Christ, he becomes a walking, talking example of what a Christian should look like. While we are ultimately following after Christ, we all need human examples of Christianity to help guide us in the right direction.

The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is filled with godly leaders who lead by example. Whether it was Moses leading God’s people out of Egypt or Peter stepping out onto the waves, all were examples to those around them and continue to stand as godly examples today. While no human example is perfect, this doesn’t mean we refuse to follow leadership. If a pastor, elder or deacon is following the Lord then look to them as an example and learn from them. There is a great blessing found in following after a man or woman of God, and as you imitate their life you may look back one day to see yourself being imitated.

“We all need spiritual Christian leaders and mentors, ones who follow Jesus Christ!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the leaders in my life. Father, help me to learn from those around me who are seeking after You. As the disciples followed You, may I seek to also follow your every move, in turn become more like You. Lord, continue to be with those in leadership. Show them ths truth and teach them to share your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 25th 2017 – A Thankful Heart

“For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.””God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food.”(1 Timothy 4:4-5)

That prayer, often spoken by small children before they eat, may seem simple, yet thankfulness is something we often struggle with even as adults. How often have I stopped and thanked God for the air I breathe, the abilities I have, or the body I have been given? Of course, gratefulness does not just manifest itself in words but becomes part of our lives. When I truly understand the gifts God has given me, it leads me to a desire to serve Him. Then, as I meditate on the Gospel and the fact that Jesus died on my behalf so that I could be forgiven, it should cause us to give our all for Him. Knowing that it can be difficult in our busy lives to stop and focus on all that we are blessed with, but when we take the time to, it will impact our lives profoundly.

(Romans 2:4) “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”

As we focus on the goodness of God and His provision for our lives and our salvation, we are humbled and put in the perfect place to be used by God. Even in our times of hardship, when we stand back and view, we get a glimpse of God’s eternal perspective which leads us to rejoice, once again, in our King.

“Grateful people recognize God’s provisions in their lives.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for ALL that You have given me. Thank You for my friends and Family. I am grateful for Your love, Your mercy and the gift of eternal life through Jesus. Thank You for the blessings of life. Teach me to have a thankful heart and to share this gratefulness with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
