June 24th 2026 – The Mirror of Truth

Scripture Reference:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

The Story:

There was once a king who was convinced that someone was responsible for his misery. Every frustration, every setback, he believed, had to be blamed on someone else. He searched tirelessly, hiring guards, spies, and investigators. He questioned his advisors and watched his rivals closely. Years passed, yet he could find no one to hold accountable for his suffering.

Finally, in desperation, the king asked a wise woman, “Can you help me find the person responsible for my suffering?” She replied confidently, “I can.” The next morning, she arrived carrying a cloth-covered object. The king gathered his court, eager for answers.

As the room fell silent, the woman stepped forward and said, “I found the person responsible for your suffering.” With that, she lifted the cloth to reveal a mirror. The king stared at his own reflection, confused, and the wise woman spoke again: “No enemy has caused you as much suffering as your own anger, your own fear, and the stories you tell yourself about what’s happening.”

For the first time in years, the king stopped searching for the source of his suffering and began to examine the one carrying it.

Reflection:

In this tale, we uncover a profound truth about human nature: often, the greatest barriers to our peace are not external, but internal. The king’s relentless quest for a scapegoat reflects our struggles—how easy it is to point fingers at circumstances or others when confronted with our pain. Yet, as the wise woman revealed, the mirror holds the key to understanding our suffering.

When she unveiled the mirror, she invited the king—and us—to confront our own reflections. How often do we allow our anger, fear, and the narratives we craft about our lives to dictate our happiness? In the process, we become prisoners of our own minds, amplifying our grief and discontent.

Jesus invites us to bear our burdens to Him, to seek healing not just from the pains inflicted by others, but also from the chains we build in our minds. Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The call to examine ourselves rather than our circumstances is both liberating and challenging, yet it is the path to genuine peace.

As we go about our daily lives, let us remember the story of the king and the wisdom of the mirror. May we strive to examine our own hearts and minds, seeking not to blame others, but to find healing within ourselves. When we do, we will discover the true source of peace that surpasses all understanding—found in Christ alone.

The thoughts we rehearse and the resentments we feed quietly become a burden greater than the events themselves.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You today, seeking clarity and understanding. Help me to recognize the mirrors in my life—those reflections of my own anger, fear, and untruths. Grant me the strength to confront my internal struggles rather than blame the external world.

As I face my own reflection, help me to see myself through Your eyes, filled with grace and love. May I understand that while others may contribute to my pain, I have the power to choose how I respond. Teach me to surrender my burdens to You and to embrace the freedom that comes with forgiveness—both for others and for myself.

Lord, I ask for Your wisdom to discern the thoughts that serve as chains binding me and the courage to let them go. Let Your peace fill my heart as I learn to live not in the shadows of resentment but in the light of Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

September 1st 2025 – Our Thoughts

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

It’s profound that our Lord emphasizes the significance of thoughts when He describes the flow of iniquity from the heart. “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” (Matthew 15:19). The heart is the wellspring of our actions, and our thoughts are the initial sparks that ignite the flames of behavior.

No sin manifests without first taking root in our thoughts. Sin often simmers beneath the surface, waiting for the right moment to emerge. Even the quick flash of anger, which may appear spontaneous, is rarely without premeditation. It’s typically the result of prolonged brooding over perceived wrongs and insults. A person quick to anger has likely conditioned themselves, allowing resentment to build until it erupts unexpectedly. This habitual dwelling on grievances creates a cycle that feeds our frustration and bitterness.

Conversely, a person characterized by long-temperedness—someone who embodies patience—demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit, which includes gentleness and self-control. This fruit is cultivated as we submit to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and allow Him to work within us. When we engage in thoughtful meditation on moral truths, reflecting on humanity’s sin, God’s mercy, and the goodness of Christ who died for His enemies, we cultivate a heart less prone to outbursts. A heart that has been molded by grace is less likely to respond with anger and more inclined to react with compassion and understanding.

Consider how often our thoughts can lead us astray. A fleeting negative thought can spiral into anger, resentment, or even despair if left unchecked. The world around us bombards us with negativity, but we have the power to choose how we respond. By focusing on God’s word and His promises, we can transform our thinking and, subsequently, our reactions. Through prayer and meditation, we can train our minds to dwell on what is good, pure, and lovely.

As we seek to embody Christ’s character, let us remember that our thoughts shape our hearts and our hearts shape our actions. In moments of irritation or offense, we can choose to pause and reflect, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our responses. The worst reaction to an affront or injustice will become annoyance or mild irritation, rather than a burst of sinful anger.

“True transformation begins in the heart; when we nurture our thoughts with grace and compassion, we cultivate a spirit that responds to the world with patience and love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Help me to relate to others as You do—with boundless patience, grace, and gentleness. Teach me to recognize the thoughts that lead me away from Your character, and give me the wisdom to take control of my mind when negativity threatens to take root.

Lord, I ask that You help me cultivate a heart that reflects Your love and mercy. When I am faced with challenges or offenses, remind me of Your forgiveness and the grace You have extended to me. May I be quick to forgive others, just as You have forgiven me, and may my reactions be rooted in Your compassion rather than my frustrations.

Help me to meditate daily on Your Word and the truth of Your promises, so that my thoughts may align with Your will. I desire to walk in the Spirit, producing the fruit of patience and kindness in all my interactions. Thank You for Your unending love and for the work You are doing in my life. I ask all these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

March 24th 2025 – In the World but not of this World

“To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,” (1 Peter 1:1)

When we hear the word “aliens,” our minds might drift to whimsical images of UFOs and extraterrestrial beings. While those notions may belong to the realm of fiction, the true essence of being an “alien” resonates deeply with our spiritual journey. In 1 Peter 1, the apostle Peter refers to the early church as “pilgrims,” a term that can also mean “foreigners” or “aliens.”

This designation serves as a powerful reminder that we are not permanent residents of this world. Peter emphasizes a profound truth for all believers: our true citizenship lies beyond this earthly realm. When we accept Jesus as our Savior and experience the new birth, we are transformed into a new creation. Our mindset shifts as we begin to live with a heavenly perspective. Although we inhabit these earthly bodies—often described as mere “tents”—our hearts and minds are directed toward our eternal home.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

So, how do we navigate our lives as citizens of Heaven while living in this world? The answer is to dedicate ourselves to God’s purpose. We are called to invest our time, energy, resources, and talents into things that have eternal significance. While God desires us to enjoy the blessings of this life, we must hold them loosely, knowing they are temporary. With our eyes fixed on Heaven, we can live generously and courageously, understanding that our ultimate reward awaits us beyond this life.

“While Christians may live on earth, our eternal home is in Heaven.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Heaven and the hope of eternity spent with You. Help me to keep my focus on my true home, finding peace even amidst life’s challenges. Lord, guide me in using my time, resources, and talents for Your Kingdom. Today, I choose to live with eternity in mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
