November 2nd 2025 – Honoring Your Parents

Scripture Reading:

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12)

Reflection:

In Exodus 20:12, God instructs us, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” This command is more than just a rule; it serves as a vital foundation for cultivating healthy relationships. When we honor our parents, we are, in essence, honoring God Himself and demonstrating our commitment to His teachings.

To honor our parents begins with fostering an attitude of gratitude. It’s essential to acknowledge the sacrifices they’ve made and the unconditional love they’ve provided. Expressing appreciation not only elevates their spirits but also deepens the connection we share.

Respectful communication is another cornerstone of honoring our parents, especially during disagreements. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” By choosing uplifting words, we create an environment of love and respect within our families.

As our parents age or face challenges, honoring them also means caring for their needs. Jesus set a profound example when He entrusted the care of His mother to John while on the cross (John 19:25-27). We honor our parents by ensuring their well-being and providing emotional support during tough times.

Moreover, prayer is a powerful way to honor our parents. By lifting them up in prayer, we express our love and concern for their spiritual and emotional growth. Interceding for them invites God’s power into their lives, bringing healing, restoration, and encouragement.

Honoring our parents transcends obligation; it’s an opportunity to express love, respect, and gratitude. This commandment paves the way for blessings and a deeper relationship with God. Let’s commit to honoring our parents through our actions, reflecting the heart of God and inviting His favor into our lives. May our love for them be evident in all we do, as we follow the example set by Jesus Christ, our ultimate model of honor and obedience.

“Honoring our parents is not just a commandment; it’s a heartfelt journey that deepens our gratitude, strengthens our bonds, and reflects the love of God in our lives.”

In Memory of my parents, Madeline and Lawrence Lavallee

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, thanking You for the blessing of our parents. They are a living testament to Your love and care. We appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made and the wisdom they’ve shared with us.

Help us to honor them in every aspect of our lives. Grant us the insight to value their teachings, the patience to listen to them, and the compassion to understand their feelings. May we treat them with unwavering respect and kindness, bringing joy to their lives.

Lord, grant us the grace to forgive any shortcomings or mistakes our parents may have made, just as You have forgiven us. Help us to view them through Your perspective, extending love and grace even in challenging moments.

We pray for abundant blessings upon our parents. Bestow upon them good health, strength, and peace of mind. Surround them with Your protective love and fill their days with joy and fulfillment. May they feel our love and appreciation in every moment. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

August 22nd 2025 – Trusting God With Our Children

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

As parents, we often bear the weight of our children’s choices, especially when those choices lead them away from the faith we hold dear. It can be disheartening to see adult children embrace worldly values or distance themselves from us, fearing judgment for their decisions. In these moments of heartache, we must remember God’s promise: He is faithful, and His love knows no bounds.

When our children choose paths that diverge from the teachings of Christ, it can feel like a personal loss. However, we must remind ourselves that God loves them even more than we do. Our role as parents is to love unconditionally and to pray fervently for their return to faith. Just as the Prodigal Son found his way back home, we can trust that our children will also seek the Lord when they are ready.

Every prayer is a seed planted in faith. Trust that God is working in the hearts of your children, even when you cannot see it.

Consider writing a letter to your child expressing your love, your hopes, and your prayers for them. Avoid any mention of judgment; instead, focus on your unconditional love and support. This can be a tangible reminder of your heart for them, one that they can revisit when they are ready.

“Though the path may seem distant, my love and prayers for you my child will always bridge the gap. In faith, I trust that God will guide you home.” (Love, Dad)

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Today, I come before You with a heavy heart for my children. I feel the distance that has grown between us, and I worry for their souls. I ask for Your divine intervention in their lives. Please soften their hearts and open their eyes to Your truth. Help me to be a light in their darkness, a source of love and hope, rather than judgment.

Grant me patience as I wait for them to come back to You. May I always exhibit Your love in my words and actions, showing them that the door is open for them to return home, both to me and to You. I pray for their salvation, for the day they recognize their need for You and turn away from the world’s distractions.

In Your grace, remind me that my role is to nurture them in prayer and love, trusting in Your perfect timing. I hold on to the promise that they will not stray forever, for You are faithful to fulfill Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

November 1st 2017 – An Important Privilege

“Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.” (2 Chronicles 26:3-4)

If you were to take a poll of the world’s most important jobs, you would no doubt find teachers, policemen and others like them at the top of the list. While those in these positions are indeed important, I wonder how many would place parents at the top of that list. God tells us in His Word that children are a blessing from the Lord and yet many parents today seem to see children as a hindrance. Children are not a hindrance to abundant life but can be a catalyst for mothers and fathers to experience life to the fullest. The key is to see parenting as the sacred task that it is. When we do, we realize the importance of guiding our children into the arms of Jesus.

(Proverbs 22:6) ” Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Each person’s life will impact the world in some way. It may be good or bad depending on choices made, but it will impact someone. When a mother and a father dedicate their lives to demonstrating Jesus to their child and speaking about the things of God, they are adding years to their lives impact. The legacy left to their children will echo throughout their life and on into the next. In fact, it could be said that the influence we have on our children echoes into eternity. We see this clearly in the passage above. Uzziah was crowned at sixteen and because his father led him in the ways of the Lord, he was prepared to lead the people according to God’s Word. We may not be over kingdoms, but how we lead our children can impact their lives and the lives of their children and their children’s children forever.

“Parents you have been given a sacred task in raising their children in a godly manner.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love and for the opportunity to be Your child. Lord, I thank You for the children You have given me and for the honor of being a parent. Help me to come alongside my children to raise them according to Your Word. Give me wisdom and insight in how to encourage and discipline rightly so that they may see Jesus in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
