July 18th 2017 – Cornerstone of Faith

“For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either.  And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14)

The resurrection of Christ is the most important truth of Christianity. Our faith is not based on a series of rules and regulations. Our lives are not changed because Jesus was a good person or a great teacher. Our lives are changed because Jesus Christ did not stay dead. After three days in the tomb, He walked out of the grave and proclaimed to the world that He is God. Since that day, the world has never been the same. Why is that? Because when Jesus died and rose again, He was setting into motion our future, a future found in resurrection.

(Colossians 2:12)
“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”

When we trust in Jesus for salvation, we partake in His death and resurrection. Our old life of sin and condemnation is nailed to the cross while our new life is given by God as a gift. This begins our journey with God as we see the world through His eyes and continue to love Him more. Then on that day when our time on earth is complete, we have the hope of physical resurrection where we take our last breath in this fallen world and wake up to the voice of our Savior. This is the power of resurrection.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, What an amazing truth, that Jesus would die and yet not stay dead. I praise You for the resurrection of Jesus and what that means for me and my life. Not only do I have the promise of new life here on earth, but I have hope of eternal life with You in Heaven. Help me to always be mindful of this important truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 15th 2017 – An Eternal Inheritance.

“ I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.” (Genesis 23:4)

Abraham and Sarah had over century together as man and wife with only their son Issac to show as fruit of their life together. Abraham had, by faith, left the comforts of his home to go to the land of Canaan that God had promised him. After decades of Sarah being barren miraculously she gave birth. At the time of her death Issac was 37 years of age. The fact that Abraham had to buy property to bury Sarah in the land that God promised him, may seem to be a long and wasted life by human observation. A life of never arriving to see anything but the seed that was promised in Issac. While wandering in the land God had promised, they wandered not as landowners but as complete strangers.

(Hebrews 11:11-12)
“It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise. And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.”

You see, God honored the timeless faith of Sarah and Abraham who appeared as strange foreigners while dwelling in tents in Canaan. They believed in God’s ability to come through in spite of their circumstances. It’s a beautiful thing when we continue to trust and believe in the Lord for our eternal dwelling place with Him. It’s true, even as we seek by His Spirit to declare the scriptures and obediently follow Him. It’s important to know we are making an impact and leaving an inheritance that will carry over into eternity. Often we are tempted to only view things that we can see with our eyes and what our physical inheritance will be, but as we live for the eternal those that surround us in our lives and families can catch hold of something that far outweighs and is more glorious then all those other things. Don’t let your circumstance discourage you, but continue to look to the Lord as the day comes closer when we will receive our eternal inheritance.

“A eternal inheritance in the Lord is the greatest inheritance one can leave for their loved ones”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You that through Your precious blood not only am I forgiven but I’m receiving an eternal inheritance through Jesus that will last forever. Please continue to help me believe and trust in You and Your word even when things here look differently than I had hoped for. Please help me to have faith when I don’t have sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 14th 2017 – God Will Provide

“Abraham said to his servants, Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” (Genesis 22:5)

I have often wondered about the emotional reaction of Abraham here when he was instructed by God to sacrifice his beloved Son. We would really have to put ourselves in his place to sense what he felt, how his heart was torn, how he avoids telling Isaac the fearful truth until the very last possible moment, how he perhaps trembles within when Isaac asks the question, Where is the lamb?

We know there is no real answer to Isaac’s question until we read in the New Testament the story of John the Baptist standing before the people of Israel saying, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).

Where did this stricken father find the strength to carry through this fearsome task? The answer is found here in one brief phrase above in verse 5, Abraham said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.’” Abraham is not trying to deceive these men, but somewhere in the quiet meditations of that awful night when this word first came to him, there came the consciousness that God could do something to raise this boy from the dead, and Abraham believed in resurrection. That is where he found the peace to follow God’s command. In the struggles of that night, he began to reason and to reckon on God.

He must have thought something like this: God has given me promises, and I have lived with God long enough to know that when God gives a promise, He carries it through. God has said that in my son Isaac all the nations of the earth shall be blessed. Isaac is necessary to the fulfillment of the promise. It can’t be any other; He has said this boy is the one who is going to be the fulfillment of the promise. Well then, if God has asked me now to offer him up as a sacrifice, there is only one explanation. God intends to raise him from the dead.

Abraham had never had, as we have today, the experience or the record of anyone having risen from the dead. Yet so firm is his faith in the character of God that he comes to a realization of the resurrection. This is confirmed in Hebrews 11: By faith Abraham offered Isaac. . . Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead… (Hebrews 11:17,19). Abraham risked everything he owned and loved on the character of God and found Him to be a God of resurrection.

Because of this wonderful triumph in his life, Abraham calls this place, God will provide, And based on this miracle there sprang up a little saying in Israel, a Proverb: When you get to the mount, it will be provided. God’s ways with people are such that it seems as though deliverance will never come. It seems that you will never be delivered. But if you go on, when you get to the mount, it will be provided. People’s disappointments are God’s appointments. It is never too late for God. Even if Abraham had been required to carry the bloody business through to its end, his father’s heart was quiet in restful peace because he knew God would raise his son from the dead.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that regardless of what You call me to lay on the altar in obedience to You, You always know what is best, and You always have a plan. I thank you for the recent lesson you taught me to fully trust you. I had no answers, but i was obedient to You Lord. As always You came through for me and provided the ram. I love You Lord… in Jesus’ name. Amen.

June 4th 2017 – Contentment is a Choice

“They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.” (2 Peter 2:19)

Throughout our lives, we will be faced with various temptations. It could be in the form of a false teacher promising something unbiblical or an activity that appeals to our sinful nature but either way, it is empty in the end. One of the temptations the bible refers to is the “lust of the eyes”, and it has the power to cause us to become bitter, unhappy and resentful towards others. Another word we could use to describe this sin would be the word covetousness. When we look at the blessings of others and desire it for ourselves, we begin coveting. At that moment, we can begin secretly resenting that individual for nothing more than being blessed by God. It’s true, they probably don’t deserve it, but none of us do.

How can we battle the lust of the eyes? I believe we find the answer in the words of Paul found in (Philippians 4:11)  “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”

Contentment is the key. Also, notice what Paul said, “I learned.” Paul did not start off content. Through the power of God, he learned to be that way whether he was in prison or enjoying the blessings of food and fellowship. This can be difficult at times but there is true freedom in learning contentment. If we can learn this, then no matter what happens in the crazy world, we will be joyful because we have God, and He is enough. As you begin your day, ask God to help you to be content. Don’t be surprised; however, if you find that your coworker gets a raise or a friend is able to buy a brand new car. Instead of getting upset because you didnt, choose contentment.

Rejoice with them and thank the Lord for graciously saving you. After all, if God can forgive us of all our sin, what more do we need?

“Contentment is a choice we must make”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the grace you have shown me. You have given me life and because of Christ, I know that I also have eternal life. Help me to be content with whatever You plan for my life. I desire to walk in peace and joy regardless of my circumstances. Use me today to share Your love with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May 30th 2017 – Believe God

“The official pleaded, “Lord, please come now before my little boy dies. Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!”  And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.” (John 4:49-50 )

How much stress and trouble could we avoid if we simply did what the father in John chapter 4 did? What if we stopped in the middle of crummy circumstances and sticky situations and chose to believe the Word that Jesus has spoken to us? Many of us read the newspaper or watch the news and believe it. We read stuff on the Internet and believe it. We read the Bible and sometimes we think, “Well, that doesn’t apply to me or my situation.”

Sometimes we believe our emotions, fickle though they are, over the Word of God. We listen to the skeptics and the naysayers. We listen to our experiences as well as our faulty interpretation of events. Of all the things that we can listen to and believe, the Word of God is the most reliable. It has proven its sturdiness many times through the centuries. It has outlasted all of its critics and still stands ever faithful and true. Many voices are calling out for your attention. Which one will you choose to act on and believe? I choose to believe Jesus and the Word He has spoken to me.

(Mark 9:23)  “Everything is possible for the person who believes!”

“We need to trust God, the Word of God and believe the Bible.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your steadfast love. Thank You that Your Word has stood the test of time and remains the source of truth and light for every situation in our lives. Please continue this work of opening my heart up to the amazing faithfulness of Your Bible. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

April 23rd 2017 – Bold as a Lion

“Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty. The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him, for he had trusted in his God.” (Daniel 6:21-23)

Daniel had been consistent for 70 years of his life praying faithfully unto the Lord three times a day facing toward Jerusalem. Daniel was also performing with profound excellence his work for King Darius. The government officials (Daniel’s coworkers) were filled with envy toward Daniel because of his success. They tricked King Darius into passing a law to pray to no one but the king, which ultimately led Daniel to be thrown into the lion’s den.

Daniel obeyed God’s word and is now being persecuted for doing so. Have you ever wholeheartedly stepped out to obey the Lord and found yourself being ridiculed? Let me encouage you not to be discouraged. You see, there is a greater lion than the ones we may face in our lion’s den of persecution-the Lion from the tribe of Judah, Jesus. The enemy prowls like a lion seeking to discourage and destroy us, but the Lord has disarmed him at the cross.

(Colossians 2:14-15) “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

The enemy’s mouth has been shut and rendered powerless over us through Christ. Not only that, but when we absorb Christ in our hearts and lives we can be encouraged and infused with that same power of forgiveness and the resurrection spirit of Christ in us. By the Lord imparting to us His righteousness we can be made as bold as a lion. We no longer need to fret, be fearful, or let our hearts be troubled for Christ has overcome the world for us and will see us through times of persecution as well.

“The Enemy prowls like a lion. – Never forget that Jesus is the real lion and Jesus gives us the boldness like a lion.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for your power to overcome the enemy in every aspect of my life. Please forgive me when I allow myself to be persuaded by the difficulty of my circumstances. Fill me with that same powerful Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead to make me bold as a lion. In Jesus’ name, Amen

March 4th 2017 – Do You Trust Me?

“Then the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria:”What confidence is this in which you trust?” (2 Kings 18:19)

It is very easy to begin trusting in the ‘things’ of this world because of the subtle way they steal our attention away from God. It is because of this subtle infiltration of worldly things that every Christian should take the time to evaluate themselves. Is there something that you give a larger role in your life than God? Has your focus become a kaleidoscope of ‘things’ preventing you from clearly focusing on serving God? If so, you had better confess to God and turn your gaze toward Him before the subtle deception of accumulation leaves you trusting in the stuff instead of God. Otherwise, there will come a day when you will find yourself spiritually and possibly physically famished.

If I were to ask you individually, most of you would very quickly say that you trust God but there are times when trust is not so simple. Trusting God means we believe in that which we cannot see and sometimes may not understand.

Trusting God is literally against our human nature. Trusting God means that we have to admit that we are not in control of our lives.

We place our trust in something or someone every day. We trust our cars to get us to our destination. We trust our employers to deliver paychecks. We trust our doctors top heals our illnesses. How much more should we trust God?

(John 14:1) “Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God, trust also in me.”

“We should know who or what we are trusting in. We should trust in the Lord alone.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,Thank You for Your Love. Lord, forgive me for the times I have placed my focus on the ‘things’ in my life rather than You. Give me the discernment and wisdom to see the deception in the things of this world and keep my eyes fixed upon You. I surrender everything to You. In Jesus name, Amen
