October 4th 2018 – For God So Loved The World

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

One of the greatest verses in all of the Bible is John 3:16. It gives us the gospel in a nutshell. Let’s break it down:

“For God so loved . . .”

Many picture God as some kind of cranky old man out to ruin our lives. But the reality is that God loves you! He misses you. He wants a relationship with you. Look at the Lord in the garden after Adam’s fall, calling, “Adam, where are you?” (Genesis 3:9).

“the world . . .”

The world? That includes Those that would cause us harm. It includes criminals, adulterers, cheats, liars, even murderers.

The thief on the cross was probably a murderer or terrorist, but Jesus extended His loving forgiveness to him.

“He gave . . .”

We can talk about love all day long, but God demonstrated His love for us in a tangible way. Romans 5:8 says,” But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” and Romans 6:23 tells us that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jesus came to this world not to come down on people, but to reach out to people. While religion tells us what we must do to reach up to Heaven, God reaches down from Heaven in sending Jesus and pulling us off of the road leading to the depths of hell.

“His only begotten Son . . .”

This does not mean “one of many,” It means “His one and only Son” or “the only Son of His kind or class, unique in kind.”

“that whosoever believes . . .”

To “believe” does not merely mean you intellectually accept something to be true. The Bible says, “Even the demons believe and tremble!” (James 2:19). To believe is to “adhere to, commit to, have faith in, rely upon, trust in.” The choice is ours as to what we will do with this wonderful gift of God. We can gladly accept it, or reject it. If someone offers you a gift, you either take it or you don’t. You can’t say, “I’m neutral on this. I can’t decide.”

“should not perish . . .”

Revelation 20:15 says, “Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”. If you are included in the “whosoever” of John 3:16, you won’t be included in the “whosoever” described in Revelation 20:15.

“but have everlasting life. . .”

Not “hope to have,” but “have.” It becomes the immediate possession of the child of God. 1 John 5:13 says,

“I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God”.

Jesus will receive and reveal Himself to any person who will come to Him honestly, heart to heart. Jesus said, “He that comes to me I will in no way cast out”

“However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.” (John 6:37)

The Maker of all creation gave to us. He did not give to us because we were worth it or because we had something to offer. He gave because He loved. The moment God became flesh was the most perfect act of love in history. Jesus left the glories of heaven and the throne of His Father and came into the tiny town of Bethlehem as a baby. With this act, God declared to all of humanity, “You are not alone.” Jesus did not come into Bethlehem bringing condemnation. He came so that He could give His life so that our sins could be forgiven. This is the greatest gift you will ever receive, but like all gifts you must open it first.

“Jesus came to save and forgive anyone who believes in Him, not to condemn them.”

” Jesus will receive and reveal Himself to any person who will come to Him honestly.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You God for Your precious gift. Thank You for sending Jesus into our world so that we can have hope. I understand that it’s because of His life, death, and resurrection that I can be forgiven of all that I’ve done. Father, help me to keep this as my focus and give me the boldness to share this good news with others so that they may come to know you. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Seeking Jesus in your life?

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

October 1st 2018 – Visions From God

“In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts.” (Daniel 7:1)

It was a time of rumblings in the kingdom of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar had been dead for at least 15 years. His successors had been in bloody power grabs leading into this time when Daniel received a vision from the Lord. Daniel, in many ways was outside of the public eye, yet in Daniel chapter 7, he receives one of the most amazing prophetic visions from the Lord in all the Bible.

Perhaps you have found yourself in an obscure situation, feeling like you want to start over somewhere else. Perhaps like the apostle Paul you have been, or at least felt like you have been in prison to a situation or circumstance. Like Daniel in obscurity Paul received many letters from the Lord to write to the churches he had planted. These letters are part of the New Testament we have today. Did you know that you can also see a vision from the Lord in the middle of your situation? As long as you are willing to pursue Him with all your heart He will be faithful to work in you and with you even in the most trying times.

(Daniel 7:13-14) “As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.”

Isaiah also saw a vision of God’s throne in Isaiah chapter 6 where he was given a mission to be a witness on behalf of the Lord. Isaiah felt himself unworthy to deliver God’s message so He was given a sign in the vision that encouraged him to fulfill his mission. When God imparts a vision of himself into our lives it invokes a change upon all that we are, conforming us into the image of Jesus and empowering us to know Him and make Him known. Take the time to be persistent with the Lord in prayer, diligently digging in His word and faithful in fellowship with other believers in Christ. It is in our walking after Him in these things that our vision of Him is enlarged in such a way our lives will be eternally impacting.

“A real vision will change your perspective, change the way you speak and change your heart toward God and toward others. So don’t run from it, engage in it!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are willing to impart to me Your will and vision for my life even when I’m not in the best of circumstances. Please forgive me when I lose sight of You. And please continue to give me the power to pursue You with all my heart. I know that You will give me the vision to see You as I walk after You in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 20th 2018 – The Spiritual Solution

For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right” (Psalm 84:11)

As Christian’s there are times in our lives where we experience times and situations where things look rather bleak. We may not understand why, but what we need to remember is to call on the name of the Lord, and He will intervene.

Here in our nation, if you watch the news and listen to the arguments and pointing fingers between the political parties, things are looking rather bleak. But God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

This is basically what God is saying, “Check this out. Call on Me, and watch what I will do. Pray right now for a revival in your land. Watch how I will intervene.”

It is God’s desire to bless us. And did you know that God wants to bless us even more than we want to be blessed? Psalm 84:11 tells us, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Often the reason we pray is because we have a need, we have a crisis. We need a healing . . . we need direction . . . we need financial provision. We pray because we are in trouble. It is not as though God simply gives us everything we have ever wanted and our lives are free of problems or conflicts. Rather, God will allow conflict in our lives so we will see our own weakness and then see the greatness of God as we depend on Him.

I don’t believe the ultimate need of our nation will be solved by a new president or by new members of Congress and Senate. I believe the real need for America will be met by a spiritual solution. Therefore, we need to pray for true healing for our nation and ask for revival!

“God will allow conflict in our lives so we will see our own weakness.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Bible. It is through these pages that we find life and light. Within Your Word, there is the story of our salvation in Christ and instruction on how we can live victorious lives. Teach me Your ways and help me grow in wisdom and understanding. Father, we pray not for shallow selfish ends, but for Your great glory and kingdom. Cause us to come to You in true humility, brokenness and contriteness of heart. May this be time Lord, that this nation falls on its knees in prayer and that a revival sweeps across our land and true healing can begin because of changed hearts, A Great Awakening! In Jesus’ Glorious and Holy Name. Amen!

September 18th 2018 – I’m Here With You

Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” (John 20:15)

Jesus asked two very insightful questions of Mary at this point: “Why are you weeping?” and “Whom are you seeking?” Often in life, we find ourselves in a place where we feel like crying and other times find ourselves in tears. Jesus sees those tears and wants to dry them… if we will let Him.

We need to allow Jesus, sometimes through the hands and wisdom of others, to tend to our tears. Whatever the circumstance, life threatening Illness, brokeness of a marriage or loss of a loved one, spouse or child. Jesus is the answer to our pain..He will comfort us.

Sometimes though, we become strangely comfortable with pain and sadness. They become almost like old familiar friends. Jesus wants to be the better friend. For some, it may mean breaking a cycle long established and for others, it may mean coming out of a short season of pain.

Seek Jesus. Realize that in the midst of trial, trouble, turmoil and temptation, He is there with you. You may need to turn around to face Him. He wants to pull you out of your problems and liberate you from sadness, but before He does, He wants to walk with you through the valley. Even when you are in the valley of the shadow of death, He is there. May you know He is there to dry your tears, lighten your load and be a closer friend than any you have ever known. Loved one, right now take a few minutes out of your busy day and turn to Him. You will be glad you did. And so will He.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for sticking by me through good times and bad times. You are the true friend. Sometimes, I become content to wallow in self pity. Please forgive me for that and humble me to allow You, through the hands of others, to comfort and even challenge me to trust you and Your promise. Please help me through the times of panic, the times when the pain is crippling and I cant breathe. Hold me close Jesus when I feel all alone. Remind me that You are here and Love me when I am unable to see past the pain. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 14th 2018 -Door Blocked, Try the Roof!

“I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.” (Revelation 3:8)

Know this: it’s not always easy to bring people to Jesus.

Don’t expect them to stand and cheer for you in Hell when you bring your friends and family to Jesus. Expect and prepare for radical satanic opposition! You must be prepared for the difficulties, and be ready to overcome them. No half-hearted attempts will succeed.

In Mark 9 there was a man who brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus “So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.” (Mark 9:20) In the same way, the devil will throw a fit when we try to bring our friends to Jesus!

That man got his son to Jesus and Jesus delivered that boy. The truth is that we must do all we can to get others to Jesus. I have actually encountered churches where they will deliver a message often leading up to salvation but never offer an invitation to accept Jesus.. Honestly, these are the lukewarm churches that Jesus speaks about in Revelations. If this is the case in your church, speak up, ask why.

The ministry of bringing others to Jesus is so important that when it seems you can’t find a way, you can often make one! Seize the moment!

In Luke 5, we read about some friends of a paralyzed man who brought him to Jesus. Now it would have been great if they could just have come through a door. That is the normal way to enter a house, but the entrance was blocked.

There’s a popular english saying about “open and closed doors” when it comes to life’s circumstances. We will things like, “I tried this or that, but the Lord did not open the door!” This is a biblical phrase, the apostle Paul spoke of an open door to preach the gospel also in the book of Revelation, Jesus said to the church of Philadelphia, “I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it” (Revelation 3:8).

But so often we use the idea of a “closed door” as an excuse. So the door was not open? Did you try getting in through the roof? That’s what these men did! “They went up on the rooftop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus” (Luke 5:19).

“If the door is blocked, try the Roof! It literally is a “Life or Death” situation.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You that in Your vastness as creator of the heavens and earth, You desire to know me. You call me to share with others. Lord, give me the mind of Christ so that I may see You and myself more clearly than I ever have. In Your grace and mercy, I am comforted to know that You have offered me forgiveness. Empower me the with a passion to tell others about You so I can reveal Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 3rd 2018 – Crack of Dawn

“Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” (2 Peter 3:3-4)

A very interesting thing happened to me yesterday. I stopped by the store to pick up natural medicine because I was feeling a cold setting in. On the way out I encountered a gentleman and we struck up a conversation. During the course of talking about how insane it is becoming all around us. Then, this very question was asked to me. “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again?”

All humans, deep down inside know what is right and what is wrong. Unfortunately we choose to do certain things that are wrong. We know what the Bible says, but somehow we think that we are above it. Or it won’t happen to us. Therefore, we play around with sin. And sin ultimately plays around with us.

There are many people today that know that Bible prophecy is true. They know that God has foretold many of the events that are happening around us. But yet they continue to live as they please.

But you know what, the Lord’s coming draws closer and closer every day. The Bible says, “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.” (Romans 13:12). It’s time for us to wake up!

One thing that always amazes me when I get up really early in the morning to pray and write these devotions. It’s pitch dark outside, But sure enough every day that sun slowly begins to rise. And when it was only darkness a few moments ago, suddenly it’s lightening up. And the next thing you know the sun is out and it’s lit up.

This is how our world is right now. It’s dark. And it has been dark for a long time. We say it will always be this way. No. The sun is beginning to rise. Christ is going to come back again. Be ready for His return.

“For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.” (Matthew 24:27)

“Don’t wait until it’s too late!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we love and praise You for being who You are, (The One True God.) I thank You for loving me and for Your willingness to always welcome all with open arms if they only call out to You for salvation. Thank You for revealing to the significance of the prophesy of Your impending return. I know its not too late, and that salvation is still available to all that would choose to believe and ask You into their heart, leaving all of their old ways, (broken and full of pain) and being reborn a new creation with a clean slate and a fresh start. Praise You Jesus for dieing on the Cross to redeem us pay for our sin and give us this opportunity to ask You to save us In your precious name Amen.

August 30th 2018 – Divine Appointments

“Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” (James 4:17)

The will of God is not always that obvious to us, sometimes it can even be difficult for us to discern. It’s not like the Mission Impossible theme starts playing in the background while I listen to a message that says, “Good morning, Mr. Lavallee. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to this specific place and meet a particular person and share Jesus Christ and pray with them. This message will self-destruct in ten seconds.”

That has never happened to me. Here’s how it might happen instead. I get into my car and remember that I need a washer for a leaking faucet, so I decide to drive to the hardware store. As I’m standing there at the checkout lane, I start chitchatting with a guy who is buying a rope. One thing leads to another, and the next thing you know, this guy has accepted the Lord. He then makes the decision he no longer needs the rope.

I had the choice whether to talk to that guy. Maybe he looked distressed. I had the choice to smile and say hi or  blow him off, to keep the conversation short, or to extend it. And ultimately, I had the choice as to whether I would share Christ with him.

Many times we aren’t thinking about or looking for opportunities like these. Yet it can actually be a sin not to share the gospel with others. James 4:17 tells us, “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”

God uses us when we are out and about doing normal things and taking steps of faith. That is how the Christian life works. We read the Word of God. We take the principles of the Word of God and put them into practice. We pray that the Lord will guide our steps. And then we go.

“God uses us when we are out and about doing normal things and taking steps of faith.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Love. Thank you for  divine appointments. Lord, forgive me for the times I have placed my focus on the ‘things’ in my life rather than You and your direction. Give me the discernment and wisdom to see the deception in the things of this world and keep my eyes fixed upon You and Your calling for my life. I surrender everything to You. In Jesus name, Amen

August 29th 2018 – Beware

“Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!” (Philippians 3:2)

Around 60 AD, the church at Philippi began to preach a different message than what Jesus had taught. Jesus’ message was that if we believe in Him, we will not perish but have everlasting life.

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) I’m

To be forgiven of our sins, we just need to believe that Jesus’ death on the cross is the only way to be forgiven. That’s it. The church at Philippi began to say that people had to first become a Jew, be circumcised, and then they could become a follower of Jesus. That’s not at all what Jesus said. Humanity often wants us to ‘do something’ before we can be made right with God. It’s like putting our two cents in so to speak. The truth is, that’s what got us into trouble in the first place. Jesus has done everything needed so we can be forgiven of our sins. Beware of anyone who adds or takes away from the message of Jesus. It can be very harmful. There is nothing we can ‘do’ to make ourselves right with God. He is waiting with open arms for all who will call on Him.

“Anything beyond coming to Jesus in faith is works-based mentality.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Son and doing everything necessary for me to have a relationship with You. Please give me opportunities to tell others that they can come to You just as they are. Thank You for caring for all of my needs and loving me so much. I do not ever want to put up obstacles for others to come to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 27th 2018 – Pray with Amazement

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry” (Psalm 34:15)

When I was a boy, I often wonderd how God could listen to so many prayers at the same time. How could He possibly hear each one and yet keep the babble of voices separate? And how could He answer those prayers when one person asks for rain and another for sunshine both on the same day?

These problems no longer trouble me, even though I still can’t explain how God can respond to our prayers. I do know, however, that He is all-knowing and present everywhere, and that His wisdom and power are beyond our comprehension.

We don’t have to take turns coming to Him, nor must we wait for just the right opportunity. At any time and in any place we can lift our voices to the Lord with full assurance that He will hear us. And He does more than just receive our requests—He comprehends, He understands, and He perceives exactly what His children ask for in faith.

Has God heard you yet today? He invites you to make your requests known to Him. What a tragedy that so many of His children go through the day without uttering a single prayer to the One who takes pleasure in hearing their voices! (Proverbs 15:8) says, “The prayer of the upright is His delight.” So pray. God listens!

There never is a night or day When God won’t hear us as we pray;

There is no time, there is no place, When He would withhold His love and grace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We want to thank You for hearing each and every prayer that we make to You., and we give praises to each prayer that You have answered. It still amazes me how even when it’s sometimes not the answer we may want, when we look back we can see that it’s is always what was best for us. We love You and we sing your praises. With love, I give it all to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 23rd 2018 – The Apple Seed

“Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.” (1 Corinthians 15:36)

God is an amazingly creative God. In His unlimited wisdom, He grows fruits and vegetables that provide food to eat and seeds for even more fruits or vegetables to grow.

I was recently slicing up an apple to give to my pet chickens. As I removed the seeds, I was thinking about the potential for new fruit from that one apple. We can count the seeds and get an idea of the number of trees that could be produced with those very seeds. What we cannot see or begin to comprehend is the number of apples that will be produced from one seed.

This may not seem all that exciting but let’s look at the application of this in our lives. When we ask Jesus to forgive us and are born again, we are like that seed planted into the ground. As that seed lies in the soil, it becomes something new, something with amazing potential for growth. Likewise, when our lives are given completely to Jesus, there is unlimited potential to the number of lives we could reach. The Lord looks down onto our lives and knows the number of times we will fall, the number of times we will have victory and the number of lives we will change. He knows and will provide the needed power; the question is… are you ready to produce? Are you ready to grow and be fruitful? When you give your life to Christ and submit to Him in obedience, you will see amazing things happen, not because you are the perfect seed, but because He is the perfect gardener. Trust Him and watch the harvest unfold before your eyes.

“Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the continuous love that You have shown me. Thank You for Jesus and the gift of salvation that comes through Him. Lord, I praise You for these things and ask that You would help me to grasp the impact that my life could have when it is dedicated to You. I ask that You fill me with Your Spirit and use me to be fruitful for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have you ever acknowledged Jesus as you Lord and Savior? If you do not know Him personally, I encourage you not to pass up the precious gift of His love and eternal life.
