September 28th 2017 – God’s Family

“But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.” (Galatians 1:11)

The Gospel changes everything. Not only does it change us, but it also unites us with other believers. Many of the differences that may have divided us before, fall away because of the love of Christ. This is why it is so important to meet together locally at church, and personally with each other. When we grow in unity with one another, it blesses our life and is a great picture to our community.

Where does this unity come from exactly? Well, we believe similar things, we share close to the same value system in love God, love people. In addition, we believe God created the earth and sky. Many people may think we are different because we have different skin colors, ways of dressing or ways of making a living? Unity may even be dependent on whether or not we have ink or tattoos on our body? But no matter what you look like or how you may have been raised in Jesus, we are called “one body”. As the body of Christ, we are a family that seeks to love unconditionally no matter how different we may be.

“When we meet together, we encourage each other with acts of love and fellowship..”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the church. Thank You for bringing me together with brothers and sisters in Christ. While I know I am not perfect, help me to love others equally and to encourage others no matter the differences. In You, the church is united. Please help me to remember that no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 26th 2017 – Put “It” Down

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,” (Ephesians 4:26)

Ephesians 4 is packed with so many treasures. (Ephesians 4:31-32) “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

The words ‘you’ and ‘your’ are used many times in Ephesians chapter 4, so it is speaking to ‘you’ as a believer. It says “don’t let the sun go down on your wrath.” Now, this could be your anger, which is the main and plain meaning, but if you don’t ask for forgiveness for things, then your sin works to separate you from God. So whether you need forgiveness, or you need to forgive somebody in obedience to the Lord and forget your wrath, do it before sundown.

I was recently reading Psalm 4 thsn looked up Ephesians 4. It’s interesting that Psalm 4 contains the only verse similar to Ephesians 4:26 that I have found.

(Psalm 4:4) “Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.

Are you nursing any wounds? Are you holding on to any unforgiveness? Bitterness? Offense? Did you get offended by someone and instead of putting the offense down, you are carrying it around? You can’t do that. It gives place to the devil in your life.

This world is getting worse by the day and you can’t be tied up and weighed down by the past. The Bible says ‘don’t let the sun go down on your wrath’. Now here’s a cool little tidbit. How do we count our days? Well, we say that it goes to midnight and then the next day starts. Man came up with that. It’s not in the Bible. Actually in the Bible, in Genesis Chapter 1, verse 5 and many other verses, it says “the evening and the morning were the first day,” “the evening and the morning were the second day,” “the evening and the morning were the third day.”

*The biblical day ends at sundown.

*At sundown you begin the next day.

The verse says don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, anger or unforgiveness. Ask God to forgive you, forgive others and forgive yourself before this day ends and before you start your next day. Do it everyday. Because of God’s grace and Jesus death on the cross we can be forgiven! And as we walk in forgiveness we are empowered to forgive others.

“God wants to deliver us out of His wrath and anger, and the consequences of it.”

Prayer:

Heavenly father, I ask that you please forgive me for holding on to offenses, for letting the sun repeatedly go down on my wrath. I’m sorry. Thank you for Jesus and the forgiveness I have in Him. Father, show me any place where I have allowed a root of bitterness to get established in my heart and remove it. I choose to trust and obey. Help me to forgive others as you, in Christ, have forgiven me. In Jesus name, Amen

September 24th 2017 – Quiet Time with God

“I have…treasured his words more than daily food.” (Job 23:12)

Your quiet time with God is more than just a good idea, it’s vital to your spiritual survival. It’s also essential to your spiritual growth and maturity. You say, “But I go to church every week.” Can you imagine what would happen if you ate only once a week? The patriarch Job said, “I have…treasured his words more than daily food.” Peter described the Scriptures as nourishing milk.

“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment” (1 Peter 2:2)

The writer to the Hebrews called the Word of God solid food.

“Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.” (Hebrews 5:14).

Your quiet time is also like a spiritual bath. Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3).

You shower every day to stay clean and avoid body odors. It’s not easy to be around someone who smells bad, and you run the risk of offending them by telling them so. But if you love them you’ll do it. Jesus told Peter, “Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” (Matthew 16:23).

Here’s the bottom line. Unless you protect your quiet time with God:

(1) You’ll be cut off from your source of strength, guidance, and wisdom;

(2) Your usefulness to God will be limited;

(3) You’ll be inconsistent in your Christian life.

You may say, “But I don’t have time!” You have the same 168 hours each week that everybody else has! And how you spend them is determined by what you think is most important. So if you think being in fellowship with God is important, begin to make time for it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful and blessed for the time we spend together every morning. I pray that you would draw me even closer. I love you Lord and Thank you for guiding me through this life.. in your precious name, Amen.

September 22nd 2017 – What Really Matters

“Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying: “What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to your tents, O Israel! Now see to your own house, O David!”
( 2 Chronicles 10:16)

In our world of twenty-four hour news stations and action packed live reporting, it’s easy to see and hear all the bad things happening in our country and the world. If we compound this with our own personal struggles and pains, we will easily find ourselves anxious or worse yet, hopeless. In 2 Chronicles 10, the people of Israel are trying to come to grips with the splitting of their nation. As they watch their kingdom crumble, they chose to look at their circumstance rather than their God.

(Philippians 4:8) “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.”

No matter where we are in life, or as a Nation. We can always find something bad to focus on. Lately in the USA. Alot of what we hear from day to day is how much our is nation divided, All of the stories of slander and hate between political parties, racial rifts, hurricanes, earth quakes, famine and death, wars and rumors of wars. Definitely sounds like what the Bible predicts in the end of times. Its easy at times for me to get caught up in it too.

What we need, is to flee from a constant intake of bad news and focusing on Satans plans. These things do nothing but cause division and pain. Instead, we should look to the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus Christ. As we set our eyes on Him we will find peace for our souls and life abundant.

“Follow only that which leads you to Jesus. Because honestly, that is what what matters. “

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your forgiveness and grace. Help me to be discerning with what or who I listen to. May I always be mindful of Your goodness and grace. Thank You for my family, my friends and all of the ones that are in my life. Father, use me to share whatever is good and right with others that are around me. Lord, also please help me draw others to You. That is where they will find the truth, real hope and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen

September 13th 2017 – Shine Bright

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

John the Baptist’s disciples saw that many more people were going to Jesus and his disciples to be baptized (John 3:26). We also see this in other places in scripture as well. People want to be in the who’s who among Christians. It’s a temptation we all face from time to time, the need to be affirmed in ourselves, how we fair among other people, and in the body of Christ. Paul deals with this specifically challenging the believers in Corinth who were having their identity connected to a specific leader.

(1 Corinthians 1:13)
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

The key for our growth is allowing ourselves to decrease in our own lives and let the Lord increase in our lives. John states that it is his joy that the Lord was coming on the scene more fully and that people were following Jesus now. Can you and I say the same thing? If someone else gets a promotion at work, if you become more unpopular and someone else is elevated to higher notoriety, or it seems that all the good you have done has been forgotten are you able to humbly rejoice? We are all faced with day to day struggles and challenges in these areas of our lives in our family, at work, school, and even in our serving the Lord in the body of Christ. The question is are we willing to let Him increase that we might decrease?

“He must increase but I must decrease is where real joy is found and the purity of the person of Jesus can be seen in us.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please forgive me when I feel I need to be exalted for any reason. Please allow Your Spirit to work in my heart so that You may truly increase in all areas of my life. Please forgive me for getting out of hand from time to time with my attitude and with gossip. I Love you Lord and want people to see You in my life. I want Your presence to shine bright in my life! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 11th 2011 – Garden of Your Heart

“This is what the LORD says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: ‘Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns.’” (Jeremiah 4:3)

If you have every planted a garden, you know that seed does not do well on hard ground. No matter how many seeds thrown to the ground, they will just bounce around until they are either eaten or blown away. In order for the seeds to take root and produce fruit, they must actually enter into the ground which means the ground must first be plowed.

Plowing is not easy. It takes time and energy to break open the dry ground in order to expose and prepare the soil underneath. The same is true with our hearts. Apart from God, our hearts are sun dried and barren, but when we begin honestly looking into the Word of God, the Holy Spirit begins plowing our heart so that we will receive the Truths of God. Just like gardening, it can be hard but it is worth the effort. The more we take God’s Word to heart, the more God digs out rocks of sin and pride, while planting great promises. God desires to see our lives filled with the fruit of His Spirit, but we must first be willing to be broken. Don’t fight it, embrace it, and you will find great joy awaiting the other end.

“The Holy Bible is the Word of God and is our source for everything we need to know about God, ourselves and salvation.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the love that You have shown me and the promise that You can make me new. Give me the strength to trust You as you plow my heart. Open my heart to understanding and my mind to your Truth. Plant in me all that You desire and use me to be a vessel of your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 18th 2017 – Search & Rescue

“And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.” (2 Corinthians 1:10)

Often when we are walking in the midst of a suffering, we may believe that God will rescue us, but it’s still difficult to fully trust Him. As we read the verse above, it’s almost like God knew we would struggle to trust Him and so He makes sure to emphasize His ability to rescue. In 2 Corinthians 1:10, Paul writes of rescue three times:

Did Rescue
Will Rescue
Will Continue to Rescue

You see, God’s plan is not to leave us in the middle of pain and hardship forever. He won’t allow us to walk into a dark valley and then leave us there to wander aimlessly without end. The truth is, HE WILL RESCUE. In fact, even if we were to walk in suffering the rest of our lives, we can know as a follower of Christ that He will rescue when He comes again. When we realize this, we don’t really need to know why He is doing it, but only that we can trust He is in control and will be with us until the end. Whatever door He opens or whatever door He closes, we can trust Him. He is good, all the time.

“Our faith is really growing when we don’t know what God is doing, and we still trust Him.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love that is so great that You would rescue me in my times of need. I also thank You for using my hard times for my benefit. Help me not to despair in difficult times but rather to rejoice because I know that my rescue is on the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 29th 2017 – Pray With Amazement

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry” (Psalm 34:15)

When I was a boy, I wonderd how God could listen to so many prayers at the same time. How could He possibly hear each one and yet keep the babble of voices separate? And how could He answer those prayers when one person asks for rain and another for sunshine— both on the same day?

These problems no longer trouble me, even though I still can’t explain how God can respond to our prayers. I do know, however, that He is all-knowing and present everywhere, and that His wisdom and power are beyond our comprehension.

We don’t have to take turns coming to Him, nor must we wait for just the right opportunity. At any time and in any place we can lift our voices to the Lord with full assurance that He will hear us. And He does more than just receive our requests—He comprehends, He understands, and He perceives exactly what His children ask for in faith.

Has God heard you yet today? He invites you to make your requests known to Him. What a tragedy that so many of His children go through the day without uttering a single prayer to the One who takes pleasure in hearing their voices! (Proverbs 15:8) says, “The prayer of the upright is His delight.” So pray. God listens!

There never is a night or day When God won’t hear us as we pray;

There is no time, there is no place, When He would withhold His love and grace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We want to thank You for hearing each and every prayer that we make to You., and we give praises to each prayer that You have answered. It still amazes me how even when it’s sometimes not the answer we may want, when we look back we can see that it’s is always what was best for us. We love You and we sing your praises. With love, I give it all to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 27th 2017 – They Sang to the Lord

“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed -” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

Paul, the writer of 2 Corinthians, was no stranger to hard times. During his ministry, he experienced angry mobs, plots to kill him, stoning, more plots to kill him, shipwrecks, imprisonment, even more plots to kill him, beatings and mockery. After all that Paul went through, how did he respond? He worshiped and sang hymns.

(Acts 16:25) “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.”

Paul and Silas were in shackles after receiving beatings and what do they do? They sang to the Lord. They were so thankful to have experienced persecution for their Lord that they were singing to Him. We may never experience physical shackles on our feet but in the middle of our difficult times, we can still sing to the Lord. In fact, when we actively worship God in the middle of difficulties, our mind turns from self-focused to God-focused. This change of focus makes all the difference.

“Our troubles are temporary. Glory and celebration are eternal.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of salvation. I also praise You for those times of trial because I know they are making me more like You. Give me the strength to praise You in those times. May the song in my heart to You change the way I see my life. I give it all to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 12th 2017 – Overcomer

“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne” (Revelation 3:21)

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (John 5:4)

We are world overcomers not because of who we are or some great feat that we have accomplished, but because we are born of God. When we made Jesus the Lord and Savior of our lives we were born into His family, the family of God.

All God says to us to do is believe it. The second part of this verse states, this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Our faith is our belief of Who God is, what He has and what He can do. Our faith is our knowing that God is for us and not against us. Our faith is our trust that He has made us world overcomers. So again, it’s not about us but it’s about Christ in us, the hope of glory.

Today, see yourself as one who overcomes the world and not one who is overtaken by the world. See yourself as the victorious one, because you are in Him. Remember He lives inside of you. Who lives inside of us? The Greater One lives in you, the One who created the stars and every living thing, the One who died on the cross for you. He didn’t die at Calvary’s hill for Himself, He did it all for you, and He wants you to partake of all that He paid for you to have.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Today, I am a world overcomer because of You who lives in me. I believe this by faith. My faith is in trusting you God and believing that what you said is true. I am a world overcomer. Thank You Lord for loving me and being involved in my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
