“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

In modern society, we put a lot of trust in strangers. We take public transportation, trusting that the driver or pilot or engineer is capable of taking us safely to our destination. We purchase food in stores and restaurants, believing that none of the food handlers have poisoned it. We go to doctors and dentists, trusting that these professionals will do their best to protect our health.

The list goes on and on: maintenance crews, security personnel, water treatment workers. We even put a certain amount of trust in the average people who walk and drive where we live.

We do that even though we know that there are bad people out there. We trust even though we know that good people sometimes make mistakes. We want to believe in other people.

We’ve seen those that don’t, the people who live in a state of constant paranoia. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live that way. I prefer to live my life with a certain amount of trust.

I trust in God above all, trusting in three basic facts:

• God is good
• God knows best
• God is able

I don’t always understand what God is doing. Sometimes I don’t agree. There are even moments where I think that I know better than he does, that my way is the best way.

Sometimes I doubt. Times when it seems like chaos has won and evil will triumph.

But then I fall back on trust. He is good. He knows best. He is able.

People will fail me. I’ve learned that. I know that because I’m well aware of my own shortcomings. I’m not perfect, and others aren’t either. I’m not always good, and others aren’t either.

But God is. He is good. He knows best. And he is able. I just need to trust.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You today for the multiple commands in the Bible to trust you. For in the times of trouble; in the out of my control circumstances; on the crooked, dark, winding paths; and in these very troubled days, we will look to something or someone to trust. What relief, peace and assurance to know that you, alone, are trustworthy. You always command our good in your Word and in providence;, and you always empower our obedience with your grace and your Spirit. Father, as this day unfolds, I choose to lean on you, and not my understanding; I choose to step on the path of grace, and off the highway of my willfulness; I choose to acknowledge you, and bring your heart, hand and hope to bear. In Jesus’ name. Amen

“But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” (1 Corinthians 11:28)

Have you ever met a Christian that believes they have the gift to identify sin in peoples lives or flawed doctrine in churches. I have yet to find it listed in scripture that this is actually a gift. Also I have yet to find the perfect church. The likely cause is that people are inperfect.

Although there are times to lovingly correct a brother or sister or even false teachings within a church, we should not be quick to condemn. Before we begin pointing our finger at someone else’s problems, we need to first examine ourselves.

(Matthew 7:5) “Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

In Scripture, Jesus draws an absurd but poignant picture of someone with a giant beam of wood in their eye striving to remove a speck of dust from their friend’s eye. As we sit back and laugh at the imagery, the truth remains. Often, we believe we can ignore the sin in our life all the while condemning those who may be sinning in the same way. This leads to a life of hypocrisy and self deception. Instead, we should examine our own hearts and seek God for forgiveness. As we find freedom from our struggles, we will be fully equipped to care for our friends who need help removing the dust from their eye.

“We should examine ourselves, not others, for problems.”

Prayer:

Dear God, Thank You for Your forgiveness and grace. Help me to examine myself every day through Your Word and Your Spirit. Continue to shape me more into the image of Your Son so that I may help others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results” (James 5:16).

“I can take my telescope and look millions and millions of miles into space,” said the great scientist Sir Issac Newton , “but I can lay it aside and go into my room, shut the door, get down on my knees in earnest prayer, and see more of heaven and get closer to God than I can assisted by all the telescopes and material agencies on earth.”

Among many other things, the carnal Christian is characterized by a poor prayer life. The spiritual Christian, on the other hand, is characterized by an effective fruitful prayer life.

Prayer is simply communicating with God by listening as well as talking. The acrostic ACTS is helpful in recalling the various components of effective prayer, though the order is not necessarily rigid.

“A” is for adoration – worship of God, first for who He is; and second for all of His benefits. He alone is worthy of our adoration and praise.

“C” stands for confession. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Sometimes this component should take priority, especially for the unbeliever and the disobedient believer, because God does not hear the prayers of the disobedient until they confess. (Psalm 66:18) “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me”

“T” is for thanksgiving, gratitude to God for His blessings.

“S” represents supplication, expressing our petitions to God for individuals and specific things and events.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I love You and admire you, when I realized Your grace, and Your love for me, it completely changed my life. Please forgive me for the times I have been stubborn, times I have not listened and times I have been selfish. But most of all, the times I did not seek daily fellowship with you Lord. Please forgive me, of my sins against You. I thank You for all You have given me, my very life, my family, my friends and most of all,the sacrifice of Your Son Jesus to redeem and purchase my very soul from the enemy. As I pray Load, you do know what my heart seeks, my passion to serve your ministry, my desire to build with my hands, my love to seed and harvest my own food. However the most important is to me is Love so deeply in my life that others will know that my previously broken heart has been made new by Your very touch Lord God. Thank you for Loving me where I am, as I am and who I am. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Seeking Jesus in your life?

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

“Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” (2 Corinthians 8:12)

The key to walking in a blessed life is not what you may be thinking. The key to experiencing the blessings of God is not to seek out the blessings, but to be the blessing. When we give to others through our time, energy, finances or caring for them, we are being a blessing and in return, we find ourselves blessed.

(Matthew 10:39) “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”

This life is not about us gaining everything we can, but it is more about us giving everything we can for the sake of God’s Kingdom. We should give joyfully, generously, proportionately and consistently to the Kingdom of God so that more and more people may find hope in Christ. At times, we may give beyond what we believe we are able, but we will find that God will care for us. When we do give like that, it shows our love for God. That kind of giving shows our desire to help the poor and the spread the Gospel. Giving of ourselves and our resources guides us into a deeper relationship with Christ because Jesus had the same attitude of giving. After all, He said that He did not come to be served but to serve. He did not come to be given much, but He came to give it all on the cross. Let’s be like Jesus and begin giving our lives so that others can be saved.

“One of rhe keys to walking in a blessed life is to know you are supposed to be a blessing and be a source of blessings to others.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the blessings You have given me. I desire to use those blessings to care for others and to share the Gospel. Open my eyes for opportunities to give of my time, energy and finances for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faith,” (Galatians 5:22)

Even in life’s darkest hours, the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, can bring the light of God’s joy to the darkest corners of disappointment. Because the Holy Spirit is alive within us, joy will sooner or later bubble to the surface. The Spirit’s very presence is our reminder of two truths: that Jesus was raised from the dead and poured out the Spirit on us when we became his followers that God has assured us of sharing his glorious future with us.

(Titus 3:3-7) “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

(2 Corinthians 1:22) “who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

(John 14:1-23)”Where the Holy Spirit finds a home, there we will find joy. Thank God we are that home!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I welcome you into my home. Until I can come home and be with you, I thank you for making your home within me through the Holy Spirit. I thank you for the joy that is mine knowing that you live in me until I can come and live with you. In Jesus’ name I thank you and praise you. Amen.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),” (Ephesians 2:4-5)

Two of the most important words in the entire Bible are “But God.” You and I were dead in our sins and trespasses… but God.rescued us.

Linda was an alcoholic and Michael was a heroin addict… but God… Charles was dying, but God… healed him.  The world needs to hear these words… but God. When I read local and world news, it becomes evident that this world is a complete mess… but God.

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:3-4)

We have to step out of our comfort zones and tell people one on one about Jesus. We have to get Bibles into the hands of those who don’t have them or who have never even seen one. We have to show the love of Jesus by bringing the Good News to those who have lost hope, to those who are living in the mess that has been made of this world. What mess have you made? God is in the business of fixing messes. God will break through the situation if you’ll allow Him. Maybe you know this. Too often we keep this to ourselves when we should be telling others.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father Thank You for sending Your only Son to die for my sins. Please forgive me for times when I have selfishly kept the light of the Gospel to myself and please give me the courage and desire to tell others about the reason for my hope, which is Jesus. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Were you robbed? Has your joy been stolen? No deadbolt was compromised, no alarm system was set off, you just know at some point your joy had been taken from you. Was it all of a sudden or was it a gradual sinking into despair, so subtle a shift you barely noticed until it was too late?

The enemy is that despised thief who steals from us. He tries to mess with us and take everything good in our lives Jesus painstakingly suffered and died for us to have.

Through the blood of Jesus at His crucifixion we have complete authority over the enemy . No matter what he tries to do to us, we will always win! The Bible says that Jesus died for us to have a blessed, full, and happy life.

The enemy has no place in our lives, he is below us, he is under our feet. When we feel ourselves getting down, depressed, frustrated or fearful, we must be armed and ready for battle. We must know The Word of God so we are constantly equipped with the necessary defense!

“God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)

This scripture clearly states that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow even those from under the earth. The enemy must bow down to Jesus, and he must flee!

How do we get back those things the enemy steals from us? How do we restore and maintain our joy? The good news is that God is in the restoration business. He will give us back double for our trouble and beauty for our ashes!

The story of Job in the Bible is an amazing example of God’s pure loving kindness and faithfulness. The enemy took everything from Job, his family, his home, his wealth, his joy and his health. All through this trial, Job praised God and never gave up. Because of his faith, God restored everything back to Job. He gave Job so much more than he ever lost for the trouble and anguish he had to endure. Job let his faith be bigger than his fear and he got his joy back and was completely restored in every way!

The Bible says where there is pain in the night, joy comes in the morning. We are to have the mind of Christ and be completely transformed in God’s image. God says He will fight your battles for you and you will not even have to lift a finger in your own defense! The great I AM is never too busy or on a God hiatus. He’s always ready to fight for us. Call on Jesus … Jesus!!! He will never leave you or forsake you. He rescues you in times of trouble. He will honor you and deliver you from all evil. He will always cause you to triumph and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. With God you are always more than a conqueror!

When you are feeling down and feel your joy and peace slipping away, get in the presence God and boldly confess that the joy of the Lord is your strength. Pray continuously and trust that God can and will perfect all that concerns you. He will fight for you always … all ways!

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with JOY in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (Psalm 16:11)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Grant to us the royalty of inward happiness, and the serenity which comes from living close to You. Renew in us the sense of joy daily, and let Your eternal spirit dwell deep in our souls and bodies, filling every corner of our hearts with light and grace. Continue to fill us with all that is good so that we will reflect You Lord in our daily lives. I give praise to You for all you have blessed me with. In Jesus name, Amen.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

People all around us are seeking peace in their life. They seek that peace through entertainment, in relationships or even in drugs or alcohol. Some may even look to religion for peace, yet fail to find it because human religions are based on man working his way to heaven. There is no real rest for the person who seeks to earn peace through rules and regulations.

But, then came Jesus.

Jesus came into the world to live the life we could not. He was perfect, blameless and humble. He lived in obedience to God the Father and fulfilled the law. Then as He hung on the cross He cried out, “it is finished,” thereby completing our salvation. Now, we come to God by faith in Christ and we are accepted. It’s by His grace we are saved, not works. Unlike the man made religions around us, Christianity is God coming to mankind and offering salvation on His works not ours. All we must do is rest, by faith, in the One who died so that we could be forgiven.

“To be able to ‘Rest in Peace’ or more appropriately stated ‘Rest in Faith’ you must be trusting in Christ alone.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank ou for the work done on my behalf. Thank You that I do not have to work my way to Heaven, but instead can place my faith in the grace of Christ. Help me to remain in Your rest and to share this Truth with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you.” (2 Corinthians 4:11-12)

Whether they knew it or not, the church of Corinth was blessed because of Paul’s sufferings. The battles endured and hardships faced were all allowed by God so that Paul would be a great witness to the world. During this time in church history, there was a lot of suffering taking place, and as a result of that suffering, the Word of God was spread to more and more people. In fact, this continues today.

I believe we all could list out some areas where we suffered because of Christ. It may not be to the extent that Paul suffered, but trials are a part of the Christian life. That may not sound so great but think of it this way, when you’re going through a trial, someone else is watching you and can be blessed through your response. The Bible says we are like fractured jars of clay, or “cracked jars”. The more suffering and trials hit, the more we seem to crack. The more we crack, the more Jesus is seen inside of us. God will use every situation in your life for good so rejoice in the hard times and look for those ways to shine… like a cracked jar with a brilliant light inside.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, While it may be hard, I want to thank You for my times of suffering. I know that each of these moments is being used to make me more like Jesus. Give me the strength and wisdom needed to be a witness for You even in times of suffering. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.” (Acts 23:11)

Notice that God did not say, “Paul, you big loser; no one got saved! You are so useless.” God was pleased with Paul not because of the results, but because he stepped out. God did not say, “Now Paul, I told you not to go to Jerusalem and look what happened!” Instead, God encouraged him. In this ‘results oriented’ world, success is defined by payoff, not by obedience. But God operates on a different economy. God is pleased by obedience. This is great news! You are not responsible for the results. Don’t mistaken this for an excuse for doing shoddy work.

(Romans 12:11) reads, “Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.”

You can wholeheartedly serve God without worrying that the results aren’t meeting His expectations. God is responsible for the results. You are responsible for doing what the Lord has told you to do. Sometimes, God may allow you to see the results of your labors. If He does, thank and praise Him… but be careful not to take the credit. If you serve only to see results, friend, you are going to become discouraged. If you serve because God wants you to, you will be in that place of peace and joy that comes through obedience to God.

“Don’t always look with your eyes to see the effect you are having by serving God.”

Prayer:

Dear Father, Thank You for loving me so much that You allow me to serve You. Please give me the ability and the opportunity to be obedient to You. Please forgive me for the times when I have not. I thank You that the results are in Your almighty hands. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
