January 30th 2017 – “Done”Comfortable

“Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.” (Acts 8:5-6)

The love of God is compelling. His love can overcome all differences between believers. It can drive us to brave and heroic deeds to reach those who do not yet know God. We spend our lives building up walls through fear and insecurity. In the safety of God’s love, He now asks us to tear those walls down often with people who make us uncomfortable.

The Jews and the Samaritans did not get along. In fact, they hated each other. The Lord led the early church at Jerusalem to minister and love on the Samaritans. They were willing to lay down their lives and reach out to others. God did incredible things in Samaria and beyond. What will the Lord do through us if we are willing to reach outside of our social groups? Stretch outside of your comfort zone and see what the Lord does on the outside and be amazed at what He does on the inside. The Bible says this…

(Romans 8:38-39) “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

“We should love one another”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You alone see the fears inside me. I ask You to help me love others. Help me reach out to others who are just as scared as I am. Because You love me, I know I can love others. You tell us to do this so Lord, I need your help. Strengthen me to love others in the midst of a cold, dark and bitter world. May that light shine like a beacon of hope to all who see it and stand as a witness of Your love for the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 29th 2017 – Jesus Is My Healer

“And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you” (Deuteronomy 7:15)

Our Father God is not the author of sickness and disease.  He is the author of health and well-being.  Our Father is looking for ways to bring healing to us and not take it away from us.  When we do a good study of the scriptures you will find over and over that our God is a God who heals His children.

The Bible states that Jesus and the Father are one and everywhere that Jesus went as He walked this earth, He never once put a sickness on someone.  NO!  He went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.  So we see that sickness is from the devil and it came at the fall.

When satan came and brought fear into this world and all its deadly works, God sent Jesus to destroy all of them for us. What a Father we serve.  He is the Great I Am, not I Want To Be.  He is at work in us, helping us and guiding us to bring a cure. Do you really think that the devil would give us doctors and nurses and people that can help us?

You see if it was up to the devil he would keep us sick and miserable.  But our Father has given us healing through His Word.  He has given great medicines and doctors, all because He loves us and wants us well.

So today, don’t accept anything from the devil.  Accept everything that is good and comes from God your Heavenly Father Who loves you and gave His all for you. Learn His ways and the light will always expose the darkness of the devil.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before you today in need of your healing hand. In you all things are possible. Hold my heart within yours, and renew my mind, body, and soul. In the midst of chaos, I am lost, but I am singing. You gave us life, and you also give us the gift of infinite joy. Give me the strength to move forward on the path you’ve laid out for me. Guide me towards better health, physically, mentally and spiritually. Give me the wisdom to identify those you’ve placed around me to help me get better In your precious name I pray, Amen

January 28th 2017 – Faith Under Attack

“Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them.” (Ezra 5:1)

In the book of Ezra, the people of Israel find themselves rebuilding the temple of God. What started out as a joyous occasion soon turned bad as other people groups began causing trouble. When all was said and done, the Israelites had to stop the work, and God’s temple remained unfinished.

There is so much we can learn from this. Whether you are building a temple or helping serve at your church, we all are called to serve the Lord. When we step out and serve like Israel, we will come under attack from our enemy. He will discourage us, cause us to doubt and may even use friends, family and other church members to keep us from doing what God has called us to do. How do we overcome these battles? Well, God’s Word shows us in the life of Israel.

In chapter 5 of Ezra, God sends His prophets, the men of God, to speak the Word of God to the people of God. And as God stirs the heart of His people through His message, they get to work doing what God commanded them to do. Sound familiar? This is what church is about. Men of God teaching the people of God so that they can be equipped, strengthened and encouraged to do Kingdom work. If you find yourself in the battle today, look to God’s Word and maybe listen to some solid bible teaching. When you do, you will be encouraged to win the battle and change the world.

“Spiritual attacks are meant to not only stop our personal spiritual growth, but to also stop the outpouring of ministry.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that there are times in life I am under attack. Help me to realize the attacks and to dive into Your Word even more. Give me wisdom and strength to fight rather than run so that I can continue to grow in You and be used to reach others with the Gospel. In Jesus name, Amen.

January 26th 2017 – God Working In Us

“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.”(Romans 7:15)

If you think you cannot identify with this statement, then you need to look in a mirror. The Apostle Paul, who wrote Romans and much of the New Testament, is being open and honest with his struggles… and we can also. We all struggle with doing wrong things. In fact, if it was not for God working through us, every attempt of our hands would be blameworthy. We all want to do well, but many times we give in to our flesh and end up doing wrong. The only way we can transact righteousness is by consequence of God in us. It is not just the ‘doing’. Your appetite to affect virtue is an indication that God is working.

(Philippians 2:13) “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

Your reading this devotion is affirmation. You are hungry for something more. Every time you do something good, you can know and believe that God is working in you. Please take heart and be encouraged. The Creator of all the universe sees Jesus reflected in you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We love You and Praise you. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for working through my insufficient efforts to produce something that is glorifying and profitable for Your kingdom. Please present me with greater opportunities to do right. I know that it is only through Your strength that I can do them. In Jesus’ name, Amen

January 25th 2017 – Spiritually Flowing

“For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.” (1 Corinthians 14:17)

God has created the church to function in an amazing way. Each person is at a different level of spiritual maturity. Some are new to the faith and are in need of spiritual sustenance. They desire the Word and need time to learn and grow in Christ. Then there are those who are well equipped with God’s Word and who have endured trials and tribulations with Jesus by their side. They are able to pour into others and help equip them for the journey. This is a beautiful part of the body and an important relationship in the church.

As more and more people are filled and equipped, we must be diligent to not become spiritually selfish. It is a blessing to sit and hear the Word of God and to be filled with understanding yet if we are not pouring out into others, we are missing part of the equation. Just like still water will eventually become stagnant, we too can become that way if we are not pouring out into others. Please don’t worry about running out of water. Our Lord promises fountains of living water that will never run dry, but the key is to share the water so that others can experience the life-changing message of Christ.

Prayer:

Heavely Father, I am grateful for all that You have done for me. I thank You for the living water of Jesus that flows in me. Help me to pour out my life for Your name’s sake and to help equip others to follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 24th 2017 – Jesus, Hold Me Close

Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” (John 20:15)

Jesus asked two very insightful questions of Mary at this point: “Why are you weeping?” and “Whom are you seeking?” Often in life, we find ourselves in a place where we feel like crying and other times find ourselves in tears. Jesus sees those tears and wants to dry them… if we will let Him.

We need to allow Jesus to do just that. Sometimes it happens through the hands and wisdom of others, but either way He wants to tend to our tears. Whatever the circumstance, life threatening Illness, brokeness of a marriage or loss of a loved one, spouse or child. Jesus is the answer to our pain..He will comfort us.

Sometimes though, we become strangely comfortable with pain and sadness. They become almost like old familiar friends. Jesus wants to be the better friend. For some, it may mean breaking a cycle long established and for others, it may mean coming out of a short season of pain.

Seek Jesus. Realize that in the midst of trial, trouble and temptation, He is there with you. You may need to turn around to face Him. He wants to pull you out of your problems and liberate you from sadness, but before He does, He wants to walk with you through the valley. Even when you are in the valley of the shadow of death, He is there. May you know He is there to dry your tears, lighten your load and be a closer friend than any you have ever known. Loved one, right now take a few minutes out of your busy day and turn to Him. You will be glad you did. And so will He.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for sticking by me through good times and bad times. You are the true friend. Sometimes, I become content to wallow in self pity. Please forgive me for that and humble me to allow You, through the hands of others, to comfort and even challenge me to trust you and Your promise. Please help me through the times of panic, the times when the pain is crippling and I can’t breathe. Hold me close Jesus when I feel all alone. Remind me that You are here and Love me when I am unable to see past the pain. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 23rd 2017 – Early Riser

“I love those who love me; And those who seek me early and diligently will find me.” (Proverbs 8:17)

I wake up every morning knowing I need to spend time reading the Scripture and praying. But it’s so easy to jump into the details of my day without first taking time to be with the Lord.

Whenever I do that, when I start tackling the day without spending time with Him. I’m really saying that I can handle things on my own. I don’t need God.

Sometimes I get the sense that God may be saying, “You want to handle this day by yourself? Go ahead.” At best, it’s an empty, fruitless day lived for myself. And at worst, I end up in some big messes!

We need to learn from King David. Even though he was a busy leader, he made a point to spend his first moments with God.

(Psalm 5:3) “O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice”

When I start the day by humbling myself and admitting that I can’t do things on my own, I can count on God to carry me through the day. Has He heard your voice today?

“Seek Him first”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me make time to seek You first every morning. I don’t want to continue have fruitless and empty days trying to do things on my own. May I seek Your devine guidance and counsel each morning. I praise and Love You, In Jesus’ name Amen.

January 22nd 2017 – Grumpy Mornings?

“I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word” (Psalm 119:147)

Have you ever woke up grumpy, maybe upset with yourself for oversleeping. Then taking your frustration out on thoses around you.

If you have ever felt like that, or its a regular thing. Here is some great advice Charles Spurgeon a preacher from the 1800’s, he said, “It is a good rule never to look into the face of man in the morning until you have looked into the face of God.”

If you have trouble being kind to others in the morning, maybe the answer is to get up early enough to be alone with God. “Cry out for help” as the Psalmist put it.

Let the face of God be the first one you see. You may be surprised at how it changes the way you relate to other people throughout the day.

“You never are too busy to pray and seek God, it’s on those days we should spend extra time with the Lord”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for always being available for those who wish to meet and fellowship with You early in the morning. Your never grumpy because Your day is busy. Please forgive us when we are,  and don’t make the time fellowship with You. Help us be kind to others by first seeking You in the morning. Thank You Lord for your patience and love. May we seek forgiveness from those we may have hurt. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.

January 21st 2017 – Do Everything In Love

“Let all that you do be done with love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

In the verse above, we find such a simple command. Simply put, we are to do everything with love. While this may appear simple in direction, it’s not simple in action. Because we are broken vessels in an evil world, it can be difficult to do everything with love. After all, our first reaction is to preserve ourselves. Our emotions, our lives, our stuff; these are the things we strive to maintain at all cost… and love demands we lose them for the sake of others.

(Galatians 2:20) “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

As Christians, we are no longer slaves to ourselves. We have been freed to love others just as Christ loved us. He is our great example as well as our strength. We cannot love rightly on our own. We must depend on Jesus. So next time your co-worker causes you to see red, look to the cross of Christ and the blood that He shed for you. He died for us when we didn’t deserve it so now we can forgive others even when they don’t deserve it.

“You’re never really living until you give your life away and start to love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for Your love and grace. Because You loved me, I am able to love others in every circumstance. Give me strength to walk in obedient love and to look for opportunities to care for others around me. As Your love increases in me, may my selfishness decrease. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 20th 2017 – The Freedom of Choice

“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Philippians 3:13-14)

God loves us so much that he gives us the freedom to make choices. Some are of little consequence, but others are life-changing. This freedom of choice dates back to Adam and Eve. They made a bad choice, and sin entered the realm of mankind.

The freedom to make choices brings responsibility. We have all made poor choices at times and have suffered the consequences of those bad choices. The good news is that no matter what poor choices we may have made in the past, there is always hope for a better future. God knew that we would make some bad choices, but he loves us so much that he sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin and to provide a way for our relationship to him to be restored.

Some people go through life carrying the load of some wrong choices they have made in the past. They believe they have messed up so badly that nothing good can ever come of their lives. Do you ever feel this way?

The Good news is,  If you want to be set free from the past, Jesus is the answer. He has already paid the price for your sin … for every wrong choice you have ever made. Talk to him. Ask him to forgive you and to help you make better choices from now on. He is ready, and he is more than able.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

Remember, you are very special to God. He loves you no matter what you have done. He is there for you. He wants you to put the past behind so that you can become all that he has designed you to be. Ask God’s forgiveness … learn from your mistakes … and look forward to a future filled with hope.

“With God, there is always hope for a better future.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving my sins. I have made so many wrong choices in my life. Help me now to put them behind and to look forward to the future you have planned for me … one filled with Hope, one filled with Faith, one filled with Love. Today is a new day, with a new way! In Jesus’ precious name Amen.
