July 30th 2016 – We Can Change the World!

“We sailed from there, and the next day came opposite Chios. The following day we arrived at Samos and stayed at Trogyllium. The next day we came to Miletus.” (Acts 20:15)

Are you changing the world or is the world changing you? You see, the world can change you into something you don’t like or want to be. It takes deliberate effort not to allow the world to change you. With God, you can go somewhere different with your life. If you partner with God, you will see yourself and the world changed. Because of those serving God and serving others, the world is not the same today as it was yesterday. Are you participating? If you are, then you are making a difference. If not, then you need to make some changes.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21)

Notice what Jesus said. He didn’t say, “Well done good and faithful spectator,” and He didn’t say, “Well done good and faithful church critic.” Start the changes today. God gives you the choice. You can live the way He created you to live, or you can live selfishly and miss out on a lot of awesome things the Lord wants to lead you in. It is your choice. No one can make the choice except you. If Gods’ way is the best way, let’s live like that. God has shown us how we should live. So, what’s it going to be? The choices we make today will shape who we are forever. Let’s follow God and play a part in restoring and redeeming a fallen, broken and hurting world. Let’s live to be all that God intended us to be. Let’s live to see the changes that we want to see in the world. Go for it. Live for God and God will take care of the details. Trust Him to do what He said He would do. May we live to be what He created us to be…messengers of His mercy, His grace, His truth and His love. The book of Acts doesn’t really end, it’s still going on. We are the next chapter in Acts. We are Acts 29.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for allowing me to play a part in redeeming and restoring this fallen, broken and hurting world. Lord, I do not want to be a spectator Christian. Please lead me in what Your will is for my life and give me the ears to hear what You would say. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

June 15th 2016 – Faith, Get a Grip!

Resized_Screenshot_SmartSelect_2016-06-15-07-01-17
Stephen’s Address: The Call of Abraham

Then the high priest said, “Are these things so?” And he said, “Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, and said to him, ‘Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.’ Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And from there, when his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell. And God gave him no inheritance in it, not even enough to set his foot on. But even when Abraham had no child, He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him. But God spoke in this way: that his descendants would dwell in a foreign land, and that they would bring them into bondage and oppress them four hundred years. ‘And the nation to whom they will be in bondage I will judge,’ said God, ‘and after that they shall come out and serve Me in this place.’ Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.” (Acts 7:1-8)

The Patriarchs in Egypt

“And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. Now a famine and great trouble came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers found no sustenance. But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. And the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became known to the Pharaoh. Then Joseph sent and called his father Jacob and all his relatives to him, seventy-five people. So Jacob went down to Egypt; and he died, he and our fathers.” (Acts 7:9-15)

These verses in Acts chapter seven speak of men who were possessors of faith: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Many of us have made professions of faith, but our modern idea of faith is an interesting one.

In order to appear that we are not ‘going overboard’ with our faith, many of us try to live under a concept of ‘safe’ Christianity. We want just enough Christianity that it doesn’t make the our friends and family worry about us. We assume that a small measure of religion can give us the peace and contentment we so desperately need in this crazy world. The problem with this type of thinking. Jesus, the one we are to be following said, “He who is not with Me is against Me” (Matthew 12:30 partial scripture).

In another place He says, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-17)

How would you describe your faith?

Do you posess the following?

A) A radical, on fire, life changing faith?

B) A more reserved, quiet faith that does not interupt your busy life?

C) A life unchanged except perhaps for your Sunday mornings?

There is only one true kind of faith, and that is ‘A’. Jesus died for us, so that He could turn our lives radically right side up. So often we try to live a life of ‘B’ and ‘C’, but desire the benefits of ‘A’. Stop trying to keep God at arms length. Embrace Him and watch Him change your life. Take those small steps toward a big radical faith. God will be with you and will enlarge your steps beneath you.

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow – What a ride!'”

“We should be possessors of faith not just professors of faith.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are anything but ordinary and boring. Help me to live a passionate life for You. I have lived for myself and found a life with no meaning. I want to live for You. Help me to step out with boldness to serve You. I know I can trust You to strengthen me and give me the things I need to serve You. When I enter into heaven, I want to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant.” Help me to radically live for You now so that I may hear You say that then. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

January 23rd 2016 – God’s Perfect Timing

images-120

“Therefore, when I have performed this and have sealed to them this fruit, I shall go by way of you to Spain. But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.” (Romans 15:28-29)

God is a blessing God. He desires to grant favor to His children. At the same time, we have our own free will, which God will not violate. Sometimes, we cheat God of the ability to bless us when we selfishly and stubbornly force our own way. The Lord’s clock does not abide by our calendar. As much as we want things to run according to our own design, God’s blueprint is much better. There is an order to things that God has established. He created all the gears, cogs and wheels of life that we do not understand.

Paul had desired to go to Rome but he knew that his trip would be much more profitable in the Lord’s timing. He had learned to wait on God’s timing and not force it on his own. Sometimes, we have to wait on God. Sometimes, we may know what God has called us to do, yet we know it is not yet time. When we wait on the Lord to say when the time is right, we can know it is going to be an incredible ride! It might not be easy, but it will be good. If it is easy, be careful. Satan will do everything he can to oppose God’s plans, and if you are not facing opposition, you may want to pray to see if you are indeed walking in God’s timing.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we love and praise you  Thank you for the love, grace and mercy that You extend to me day in and day out. Thank You for Your goodness; for Your kindness. Thank You for the incredible plans You have for my life. Please lead me into and through them in Your timing and not in my own. In Jesus  name, Amen.

Seeking Jesus in your life?

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your life you can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

Please take a moment to contact me, I would love to pray with you personally for this wonderful new journey you are on.  roblavallee@gmail.com or 520-256-9738

January 21st 2016 – Don’t be Self Righteous

2016-01-21-05-47-32-51402210

“Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.” (Romans 2:1)

In Romans chapter one, we learn about the unrighteousness of man. In chapter two, Paul addresses our self-righteousness; our desire to consider ourselves better than everybody else. Nobody wants to be called self-righteous, yet we are so quick to judge others. We need to be aware of your own weakness and sinfulness. If you think that once you became a Christian you stopped sinning, you should check out the passage below:

(1 John 1:8-10) “If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place

Judge yourself. If you look long at the sins of others and not enough at your own sins, you will develop spiritual pride, which is a stench to God. Have you ever looked at someone and thought there is no hope for them? Well then, you are making the statement that the mercy of God is limited. You are pridefully saying that your sins are covered, but another’s are not. Every person, whether we deem them good people or not, needs God’s saving power and grace. Stop and think… How much have you been forgiven? Does this mean we cannot speak into other’s lives? Absolutelywe can and should, but not in condemnation. Just as God has heaped His grace so abundantly on you, in discernment you can speak into someone’s life from your experiences with an attitude of love, peppered with grace. You cannot condemn someone and offer hope at the same time. The moment we start to condemn people is the moment we forget our mission. What is our mission? Our mission is to tell people about Jesus.

“Seeing the evil in others does not root out the evil in us”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for forgiving me of my sins. I am so grateful for Your grace. Please forgive me for times when I, in my own pride, look at someone else and condemned them in my mind. Please give me opportunities to tell people about Jesus. Thank You. In Jesus name, Amen.

November 24th 2015 – A Glorious Seed is Sown

images-19

“So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.” (1 Corinthians 15:42-43)

A seed… such a small thing, yet out of it; a giant redwood tree can grow. This is not unlike us. When we are born again, we are given a deposit of God’s Holy Spirit. This Spirit is the beginning of God’s transformation in our lives.

(Ephesians 1:13-14) “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”

The amazing reality is that not only is God depositing His Spirit in us, He is preparing us for our heavenly bodies and fellowship with Him for eternity. As the Spirit of God begins changing us, we begin walking more and more in the Spirit. And as a result, we’re displaying the heavenly work happening within us. When at the end of our life the Lord finishes changing us, we will continue walking as spiritual men and women of God for all eternity.

Heaven should get into us before we get into Heaven.

Prayer

Dear God, It is amazing to think of the gift that has been planted in me. Through Your Holy Spirit, help me to live a heavenly life; one that is eternally minded. Keep me focused on what is important and allow me to share the gift of Christ and our glorious future with others. In Jesus’ glorious name, Amen

November 22nd 2015 – Gods Wisdom verses an Epidemic

images-12

A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”  (Proverbs 26:28)

This verse from Proverbs tells us that behind a lying tongue is hatred and flattery. These kings of actions will create a life full of pain for them and others around them. In today’s world lying has become a plague that is grieving the heart of God. It is not only rampant in society, but it has also spread among God’s own people. Even God’s ministers are not immune and many of them are infected with it.

According to many people, is considered rather harmless. Reference is even made to telling little “white lies.” Supposedly to some, these kind are O.K. These encompass speaking flattering words and compliments without really meaning them. Lying is now so commonplace that people are deceived into just accepting it as normal, instead of recognizing and resisting it. The practice of lying and dishonesty is now epidemic in our world. People lie and cheat on their income tax forms. People cover their adulterous affairs with lies. People lie about being ill in order to take off work. People lie when confronted with mistakes they have made, blaming others. People lie in order to get a promotion or favor. People lie to in order to get out of jams. People lie about others in order to get elected. The list could go on.

What does the Bible say about lying? A lying tongue is not only something God hates, it is also something that is an abomination to Him. It is one of the sins listed that God hates.

(Proverbs 6:16-19) “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”

Evil lies that are used against people are told for the purpose of wounding and crushing others. This is why God hates it so, as it is designed to destroy people and their reputations. A wicked person who tells lies one minute to destroy others, will not hesitate to use flattery the next minute, if it will advance his own selfish cause. Whether it is a lie or flattery, the motive is wicked and the words are designed to ruin others.

On the positive side, the Bible tells us that truth will end up prevailing over a lie. It is always better to tell the truth, as truth will ultimately endure over all lies. The Bible tells us that Jesus and His Word are truth. Therefore if I give my life to Christ and practice His Word, I will be able to walk in the truth and tell the truth.

(Psalm 100:5) “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations”

(John 14:6) Jesus answerd “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”

Lying is a sin that leads to other sins. In fact, when someone tells a lie, then they have to tell other lies to cover that lie.

Today’ devotional study tells us that when someone lies about another, they practice hate. The Bible tells us that hatred is really murder in someone’s heart. We can see the progression – telling a lie, embracing hatred in one’s heart, and then an actual murder can follow those two sins. This is why lying is so deadly.

(1 John 3:14-16) “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful You are a God of truth. Lord, help establish my lips to always speak the truth and not deceitfulness. Fill me daily with your Holy Spirit so that I am empowered to walk in love toward all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. May I always be gracious toward others, keep me from any false flattery. I never want to be manipulative, but to always be honest and sincere in all my dealings with others. You are the God of truth, so may I always embrace truth and resist every lie. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen

November 4th 2015 – Unnecessary Obstacles

620025c5666951576e41e5eed7f6d1de

“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romas 5:6)

What do you have to do in order to be righteous with God? Do you have to die a martyr’s death before God will allow you into paradise? No. Do your good deeds need to outweigh your bad deeds for God to allow you into heaven? No. Do you have to be at peace with nature when you die so that God will absorb you into Heaven? No. What if you have done enough works, will God then allow you into Heaven? No. Man pridefully wants to play a part in his salvation. We invent hurdles to jump, thinking we can earn God’s approval. I don’t want what I’ve earned because according to Romans 6:23, I’ve earned death. I need God’s grace.

(2 Corinthians 5:21) says “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”

Every world religion is based on what you have to do to convince God you deserve to go to Heaven… that is, except one – Biblical Christianity. You see, the Bible tells us that God has already done everything for you. Your part is simply to accept Jesus’ gift to you. He did the work, dying on the cross for your sins. Friend, you don’t have to reach for God because He’s already reaching out for you. Please don’t reject Him.

Prayer

Dear Jesus:

Thank You for dying for me so that I could be forgiven. Thank You for being resurrected so I could have a new life. I ask You to forgive me of all of my sins. Lord, I have done wrong things, and I am sorry. Thank You for Your forgiveness. Please give me the power to live for You all the days of my life. Amen.

Congratulations, you just made the best decision you will ever make or recommitted yourself to the greatest cause…the cause of Christ. If you just made that decision, please email me at roblavallee@gmail.com and please let me know.

Please forward this to anyone if you are unsure of their faith in Jesus

October 2nd 2015 – Spirtual Warfare – Helmet of Salvation

images-235

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God;” (Ephesians 6:17)

Get your head covered, it’s cold outside.  How many remember your parents saying that to you?  Well it is the same here.  We need to get our heads covered. The enemy is always looking to get negative thoughts into our mind.  He wants to bring doubt and unbelief. He knows that if he can get us to doubt God’s Word he can continually defeat us.

In this verse it tells us to take the “helmet of salvation”.  Our salvation is the most powerful of all gifts that God has given to us.  We are saved because of what Jesus did on the cross. (Don’t worry, our salvation can not be taken from us once we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, however satan will do everything he can to cause to doubt and beleive that we are worthless.) When Jesus’ disciples came back from preaching the Gospel they were all excited because of all the miracles that they had witnessed, yet Jesus gets them right on track again.  Look here at (Luke 10:20) “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Salvation is a gift from God and it comes to us by believing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Salvation does not come through works or being good, it is freely given to anyone that will receive it. (Ephesians 2:8-9) “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

As you get spiritually dressed today, look to Jesus, and thank Him for this great salvation that He has given to you.  Thank Him that you are heaven bound and that you will never go to hell because of all that He did on the cross.  As you do this, remember the work of Calvary and His resurrection and let the helmet of salvation get on your head and protect you from the thought bombs of the enemy.  When they do come, cast them down in Jesus’ name and receive the victory through Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We praise You for your sacrifice on the cross so that I can be saved. Your sacrifice did not just save me, but all of mankind if they will only would beleive in you. I believe it with all of my heart and mind.  Today, I put on the helmet of salvation and I cast down every thought and make it obey the Word of God. You are a wonderful and loving God and I love you with all of my heart. In your precious name, Amen

If you have not ever asked Jesus into you heart,; please consider how close we are to His return. Don’t miss out on all of His blessings, but also His guidance and protection.  It was the greatest decision I every made. I could not ever imagine my life without Him.

September 24th 2015 – Lay it on the Alter, Let it Go..

  • images-136

“Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, Abraham!” And he said, Here I am.” (Genesis 22:1-3)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

While it’s often a struggle to put everything on the altar, one thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to understand how God will accomplish His plans. All He asks is that you surrender your will to His and trust that He will show you the way forward (Prov. 3:5-6). Abraham’s willingness to give up what was most precious to him came from his unyielding faith in the Lord’s trustworthiness.

However, if you tell God no because He won’t explain why He wants us to do something, we are actually hindering His blessing. But when we say yes to Him, heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward our obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit. But don’t mistake His way of rewarding as being like a parent who withholds a treat until the child does as he’s told. Rather, obeying the Lord naturally positions us to receive what He is already trying to give us and accomplish in our lives. So, when we fail to trust Him and refuse to do what He says, we are the ones choosing to close ourselves off from those good things.

What has God asked you to do? Have you only partially cooperated? Or have you, like Abraham, given up your need to understand and then obeyed completely?

If the Lord says to give more than you think you’re able to give, know that He will provide. Whether things are running smoothly or the bottom has dropped out, He is always trustworthy. You can count on almighty God to keep His everlasting Word.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, We go along each day, trying to run life our own way. We forget to let go and give You control. We often wonder why things aren’t going the way we want them to go. We forget to stop and ask what you want, Lord.  Please help us to give you control, Jesus. We want to follow you, and want what you desire for each of us.

Help us to realize that when you close one door, you open the one you want us to walk through. Help each of also to realize that what we desire may not be what is meant for us, or what is best. Often it will lead us away from what your great plans are for our lives.

Lord, let us accept each day as a gift. Let us follow the path you have chosen for each of us. Help us to be thankful for what you give us and not to worry about Our needs.

Help us, dear Jesus, be who and what you want us to be. Give us strength, faith and hope, and most of all, give each of us guidance every day. May we let go and give You all control.. In your precious name, Amen.

September 22nd 2015 – When we Experience Jesus

images-240

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life– the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us– that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.” (1 John 1:1-4)

Our life, our fellowship with the Father, is all because of Jesus.  When you make Jesus the Lord of your life and His power comes within you it changes everything.  We can say that it is a game changer.  You see, when I try to do things on my own, then I have my own power to help me overcome.  But when I let His life live big within me, I’m letting the life of the Eternal One, the very life of God Himself, reign within me.

Think of it like this.  We live in a world of computers.  If I wanted to figure out some big problem with my own mind it might never get done but if I put the information into a computer that has the software to figure it out, it will get done in no time.  So it is with us.  Our Heavenly Father has been here forever and knows the answer to all of life’s problems.  He wants us to fellowship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when we do, all of a sudden it seems like things that seemed so big seem to get in line.

So today, don’t look to the problem, look to the Greater One Who lives within you.  Fellowship with Him.  Give Him a place of dominance in your life and watch how everything in life gets in line.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Today, I look to the You who lives within me. when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love, and Your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in Your protecting love and strengthening power, so that nothing may frighten or worry us, for, living close to You, we shall see Your hand, Your purpose, Your will through all things. I thank You and love You Jesus,  Amen
