March 8th 2017 – All Things Are Possible

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23)

When Jesus said all things, did He mean ALL THINGS?  Well, one thing that we have learned from the Word of God is that our Heavenly Father is not a man that He should lie.  If God said it, it is so.  So, with that in mind, we can have confidence in God and His Word.

We must take the Word of God as the Word of God, and know that all things are possible from His Word.  When we look into the Word and find a scripture that promises us something, like healing, then we need to spend the time that it takes to get that Word, or seed, deep into our heart.  We need to give the Word of God the time that it needs to germinate within us.
Just because we read a verse on healing does not mean it is going to grow in one day.
Remember this verse says, “All things are possible to him who believes.”  I need to get His Word into me and into that believing part.  I will say this, I believe that I am saved and no one can take that from me, yet when it comes to healing, when something is fighting my flesh, I let doubt in.
This is the good fight of faith.  This is where the rubber meets the road.  So what do I do to get it to the producing stage?  I meditate on the verses or promises until it becomes real to me, just like salvation is real to me.  When it gets to that place, then I can boldly say, “ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO ME BECAUSE I BELIEVE. AMEN!”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You in all circumstances in my life because I know that I am your child and that you love me. I also know that all things are possible in my life because I believe in You without doubt, and Your Word.  You said it is true, so I trust, and I believe, and as I do, I see results! Thank you for Your presence in my life. In your precious name; Amen…

March 7th 2017 – Ears to Hear

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”(Matthew 13:9)

A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Jesus would often teach a moral Truth by connecting natural things to make incredible spiritual points. Too often; however, the people did not want to hear the Truth He brought. Jesus was fond of saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Obviously, God gave us ears for listening. Do we always? If we were honest with ourselves, we would have to say “no”.

Here are some things overheard from people leaving countless churches across this land. “The teaching was on point today” or “I just wasn’t feeling’ it today.”

Why do we go to church? Is it to grade the teacher? Is it to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching?  No – We go to church to hear from God.

The Apostle John wrote that the same Holy Spirit that instructs the teacher also instructs the Christian. The Bible tells us that scripture is God-breathed, and it is a discerner of the heart’s intentions which does not return void (doesn’t fail)

(Isaiah 55:11) “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

(Hebrews 4:12)  “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

So, whose fault is it when we go to church, listen to a teaching from the Bible, and don’t receive? Here’s a hint: It’s not the teacher, it’s not the Bible and it’s not God. That’s right. It’s our own fault. We don’t hear because we don’t like the challenge.

We should never walk away from a Bible teaching church (no matter who the teacher is) without realizing a change or recognizing a step we need to take. Make it your personal commitment to find the life-challenge, the life lesson within each teaching, and apply it to your life. Share it with a friend or a family member. Ask them to hold you accountable for making that change.

(James 1:25) “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

“We should be living the Bible (to our best ability) not just hearing the Bible.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. I know I am incapable of paying the debt for my sins. Thank You for providing Your Son, Jesus, to pay that debt. I am grateful that You delight in having a relationship with me. Lord, help me to apply Your Word in my daily life and live out a life of peace and faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen

March 6th 2017 – Commitment is not Bondage

“So Paul still remained a good while. Then he took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had his hair cut off at Cenchrea, for he had taken a vow.” (Acts 18:18)

Paul had taken a Nazarite vow that he would not touch a dead body; he would drink no wine, eat no grapes, eat no raisins, and allow his hair to grow before cutting it off as a sign of purification (see Numbers 6). But wait, isn’t Paul the one who told us that those under grace should not be under bondage? In (Galatians 5:1), he wrote, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

This was not bondage for Paul because it kept the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ relatable to the Jews. It was also profitable in that it gave Paul the opportunity to model service and sacrifice as an example for other Christians. I am going to let you in on something that may surprise you, commitment is not bondage. It is by God’s grace that we have been given the opportunity to serve Him.

How do we serve God? We serve Him by serving others and His church. Is commitment service or sacrifice? It is both. Every Christian should be ready to serve and be ready for sacrifice. What was the model set forth for us by Jesus? It was one of service and sacrifice. If we are to be “Christ-like” then we must be ready and willing to commit ourselves to live by the example He set for us. We hold ourselves to commitments every day. Commitments we make at our jobs, with our family and friends. What about our commitment to Jesus and to His church?

(Proverbs 16:3) reads, “Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed.”

Service or sacrifice, whichever it may be, I’m ready. That is the mindset of a true servant of God.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace and Your mercy. Help me look for ways I can commit to serving others. Help me to be willing and ready when asked to serve. Lord, when my serving requires sacrifice, please help me not to grumble or complain. Help me to be glad that I can sacrifice my time and effort in serving others, and in turn recognize that I am serving You. Thank You Lord for Your serving and sacrifice for us. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 5th 2017 – God Answers Prayers

“For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.” (Romans 1:9-10)

God always hears and answers the prayers of His children. He may not answer them in the way we want Him to, but God does answer. His answer may sometimes be ‘no’. But even so, praise Him. God knows our needs much better than we do. Too often when we pray, it is like we are writing up a contract that we ask God to sign.

“Alright God, just need your signature right there and we’re done. I’ve got it mapped and planned out. No reason for You to get involved in the ‘hows’ or the ‘whys’. Just sign and we’re all done.”

Sound familiar? Instead, we should pray for great things with a willing heart seeking to be obedient to God’s will. We should give thanks in all circumstances and say…

“Lord, thank You for loving me. What is Your will in my situation? You know my needs and my desires, but I want Your will to be done in Your own way. Use me however You want to Lord.”

Do you have a willing heart?

God answers prayer in His own timing and in His own way.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You that Your will for me is good. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. Lord, You know my needs and wants. You know my troubles and fears. I want Your will to be done in my life in Your own way. Use me however you want to. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 4th 2017 – Do You Trust Me?

“Then the Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria:”What confidence is this in which you trust?” (2 Kings 18:19)

It is very easy to begin trusting in the ‘things’ of this world because of the subtle way they steal our attention away from God. It is because of this subtle infiltration of worldly things that every Christian should take the time to evaluate themselves. Is there something that you give a larger role in your life than God? Has your focus become a kaleidoscope of ‘things’ preventing you from clearly focusing on serving God? If so, you had better confess to God and turn your gaze toward Him before the subtle deception of accumulation leaves you trusting in the stuff instead of God. Otherwise, there will come a day when you will find yourself spiritually and possibly physically famished.

If I were to ask you individually, most of you would very quickly say that you trust God but there are times when trust is not so simple. Trusting God means we believe in that which we cannot see and sometimes may not understand.

Trusting God is literally against our human nature. Trusting God means that we have to admit that we are not in control of our lives.

We place our trust in something or someone every day. We trust our cars to get us to our destination. We trust our employers to deliver paychecks. We trust our doctors top heals our illnesses. How much more should we trust God?

(John 14:1) “Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God, trust also in me.”

“We should know who or what we are trusting in. We should trust in the Lord alone.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,Thank You for Your Love. Lord, forgive me for the times I have placed my focus on the ‘things’ in my life rather than You. Give me the discernment and wisdom to see the deception in the things of this world and keep my eyes fixed upon You. I surrender everything to You. In Jesus name, Amen

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” (Hosea 4:6)

Knowledge is powerful. If you know how to fix a computer, you are a valuable asset to many people. If you know a foreign language, you are able to carry on conversations with those who live across the globe. Even more importantly, if you know the Word of God, you are able to understand His promises and apply them to your life. This was not the case for the people of Israel in the book of Hosea. They had forgotten God’s law and in the end, suffered the consequences. The same can be said of us if we do not continue to spend time in the Word, understanding it and acting on what God commands.

On the positive side of that equation, we find that God’s Word brings life. It brings hope and peace. You may ask how knowledge will lead to these things. Well, imagine you have just been diagnosed with a fatal disease. Now imagine you know that in moments the doctor is going to come into the room with the cure. Because of that knowledge, you will have hope and peace. Now imagine you are not aware of that cure. What would your response be to that news? You see friend, God has told us that He offers forgiveness, grace and eternal life through Jesus. When we understand that Truth and trust in Jesus for salvation, we can have an eternal hope that changes our life. Rather than fearing the things of life, we can walk with confidence that God is in control and that no matter what happens, one day we will stand in the presence of our loving Father in heaven.

“Knowing God’s Word leads to a life of freedom and unspeakable joy.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your amazing promises found in the Bible. Help me to know and trust in the Words You have spoken. Help me to walk in the knowledge of You so that I can find hope and victory in my life. Fill me with Your Spirit and guide me by Your Word. In Jesus ‘ name, Amen.

March 2nd 2017 – Unchanged!

“But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:20)

 

What if you were at work and one of your coworkers came in talking about how he had just been parachuting accident over the weekend. He claimed his parachute didn’t open completely and he crashed into a parked car. As everyone listens in awe, you notice something very strange – he is completely unchanged. He has no broken bones, bruises or even a scratch. There is no evidence that his encounter with death ever occurred. What would you think then? Is this guy lying or has he gone completely mad?

Unfortunately, this story plays out all the time across the world. Many people claim to follow Christ but there is no evidence to back it up. Their life has not changed and therefore, they leave people wondering what’s true and what’s not. While not everyone who comes to Christ is going to change everything in an instant, over time our lives should reflect what we believe. If we honestly believe that the God of the universe loved us so much that He willfully died and rose again so that we could be forgiven, it’s going to change our life. It’s going to change our hearts and our desires. And as the world looks on, they will notice the change. So today, meditate on the goodness of God and His love for you. Let that change you from the inside out.

“The way you believe should show in the way you live.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that I have missed the mark when it comes to actively living for You. Whether in small or big areas, I pray that You would help me live out what I believe. Fill me with Your Spirit and teach me through Your Word so that I will be a powerful witness in word and in deed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

March 1st 2017 – With Great Zeal

“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; With great fervor I am zealous for her.'” (Zechariah 8:2)

It’s hard to imagine that the God of the universe would be zealous for us. After all, there is nothing we can do to earn God’s zeal. We have all sinned against Him and chased after other things. Yet God steps out of heaven, walks to the cross and lays down His life for us. With this graphic demonstration, God forever declares His love and zeal for mankind.

(Romans 5:10-11) “For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.”

What amazing love, and yet we often lose sight of it. if you find yourself struggling with loneliness, depression or anxiety…look to the cross. As you come to grips with the overwhelming love of God demonstrated on the cross, you will find joy. Even if the entire world deserts you and nothing seems to be going your way, reflecting on the cross and what it means for us changes everything. Because of Jesus’ death, we have eternal life. Because of His blood spilled on the cross, we have been forgiveness of sins. Because of His resurrection, we now have hope of rising again. This is the Truth that can change the world. Experience it. Live it. Share it.

“The cross is evidence of God’s zeal for us.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the cross. Because of Your great sacrifice, I have everything I need for life and for eternity. Father, give me the eternal perspective I need to overcome my fears and doubts. Help me to remember the cross so that I will continue to rejoice in my salvation and have the passion to share it with others. In Jesus name, Amen.

February 28th 2017 – Is God Speaking To You

 “then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men),” (2 Chronicles 6:30)

Trials, hardships, frustrations–whatever they’re called, we all deal with them at one time or another. The good news is that God desires to speak to us during those times. It could be that you are surrounded by circumstances that are difficult, or you may have made bad choices which have led to a bad situation. In those times friend, remember the words of Jesus Himself…

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28)

Many times in life, we can’t hear the Lord, even when He is shouting to get our attention. It’s often in those times of struggle that He whispers and we hear His voice loud and clear. If today you find yourself in the midst of hardships, seek the Lord. Use this time to seek forgiveness and cling to the grace of God. Cry out to God and He will hear from heaven and pour out His love upon you in abundance. When we do this, God makes the most of our pain and can bring something good from something bad.

“Whenever something in life goes wrong, use the moment to ask forgiveness and draw closer to the Lord.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the life You have given me. Lord, I pray that when this life gets difficult that I turn to You. Help me draw closer to You whether I am enjoying blessings or walking through trials. Father, may each day and circumstance be used to make me more like Jesus. Forgive me of my sins and fill me with Your Spirit so that I can be used to build Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

February 26th 2017 – Keep Looking Up

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28)

Each week our world seems to brace for some kind of new disaster. Whether it’s an earthquake, hurricane or economic collapse, we experience regularly the evidence of this fallen world. To the unbeliever, these events bring uncertainty and fear. After all, if this world is all there is and it’s clearly unpredictable and broken, how can they know what to do? Yet to a follower of Christ, we look at these things from a different perspective…a biblical perspective.

Jesus told us that we would have tribulations. The Bible is very clear that because of sin, this world has been corrupted and therefore, we will experience its effects. But that is not the final word. Yes, this world is broken. Yes, we have natural disasters and horrific events like we witnessed on 9-11. Yes, these things will increase as we get closer to the end. BUT, it will end.

When we see these things happen, look up. When you witness the suffering around the world, look up. When you experience the loss of a loved one, look up. When you see people and governments turning against God, look up, because your redemption is near. In the end, Jesus will stop it all. He will make all things right and heal this broken world. Until then, we look up and proclaim to this broken and beat up world the peace they can find in Jesus. Sin caused these problems. Jesus will solve them.

“No matter what the future holds, we can know WHO holds the future.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your grace on my life and the peace I can have through Jesus. Father, help me to trust You in every situation, no matter how hard it may be. Each time I see or experience the pain of this broken world, help me to look up and be reminded of Your return. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
