February 10th 2017 -Unstoppable Joy!

“Do not rejoice, O Israel, with joy like other peoples, For you have played the harlot against your God. You have made love for hire on every threshing floor.” (Hosea 9:1)

Joy, it’s something we strive for and yet so many people miss it completely. In the time of Hosea, God tells the people of Israel NOT to rejoice. He does not refuse them joy because He is cruel; He is simply stating a fact. They had rejected a relationship with God and because of that, they had rejected joy.

Around the world today there are countless people who are seeking joy. They try to find it in relationships, careers, activities and possessions. Unfortunately many turn to drugs and alcohol. These things may bring a temporary joy or happiness, but each one of them is unable to sustain joy for long. Compare this to the words of Jesus in John chapter 15.

(John 15:10-11) “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Jesus gives us the answer to complete joy in life and that answer is a relationship with Him. An active relationship with Jesus through prayer, reading the Bible and serving others helps us walk in fulfillment and joy. As we see others blessed, we are blessed. When we understand the promises of God and how they relate to us, we are encouraged. So, if you are lacking joy in your life, look to the One who promises full joy. Find Jesus and find joy.

“Complete, unstoppable joy is found in an active relationship with Jesus.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the relationship You offer me through Jesus. Thank You for the promises of Your Word. Help me to remember those promises, and give me the strength to love and serve others. I know that as I step out in obedience to You, I will find complete joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray this prayer and start a new life, or recommit to to Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved (Rom. 10:9). I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank You for saving me!

January 21st 2017 – Do Everything In Love

“Let all that you do be done with love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

In the verse above, we find such a simple command. Simply put, we are to do everything with love. While this may appear simple in direction, it’s not simple in action. Because we are broken vessels in an evil world, it can be difficult to do everything with love. After all, our first reaction is to preserve ourselves. Our emotions, our lives, our stuff; these are the things we strive to maintain at all cost… and love demands we lose them for the sake of others.

(Galatians 2:20) “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

As Christians, we are no longer slaves to ourselves. We have been freed to love others just as Christ loved us. He is our great example as well as our strength. We cannot love rightly on our own. We must depend on Jesus. So next time your co-worker causes you to see red, look to the cross of Christ and the blood that He shed for you. He died for us when we didn’t deserve it so now we can forgive others even when they don’t deserve it.

“You’re never really living until you give your life away and start to love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for Your love and grace. Because You loved me, I am able to love others in every circumstance. Give me strength to walk in obedient love and to look for opportunities to care for others around me. As Your love increases in me, may my selfishness decrease. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

December 27th 2016 – Peace Be With You, May You Be Well

“Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19)

 

(John 20:21) “So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

(Philippians 4:7) “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

The issue of peace seems to be very important to God. Real peace is more than just the ‘absence of war’. Real peace is Shalom (shal-lom) – a Hebrew word meaning justice, prosperity, good fellowship and health … a blessed and fulfilled life by the gracious hand of God. People the world over strive and churn hunting for emotional peace, financial peace or spiritual peace. We spend so much energy trying to find something God wants to give us for free.

How about you, do you have shalom? What does it take to ‘derail’ your peace? A small thing, a big thing or do you have the peace of God that stays with you even in the most trying situations? That is the peace God offers, a peace that surpasses all understanding. In other words, even in the midst of trial or temptation, when you shouldn’t have peace, you have it. What a gift from God. Turn off the TV, cell phone, log off of the internet and spend a few minutes with the God that offers you more lasting peace than anyone or anything else. In that time, may the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His peace. Shalom Aleichem means “may you be well”, so Shalom Aleichem to you, my friend.

“We can have peace with God.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your peace which allows me to press forward in Your call even when the days appear fearsome. Lord, please forgive me for times when I have wandered from Your peace or allowed circumstances to rule over me. I am Your child and as such I have no person, place or thing to fear. Give me the power to live for You in every moment of my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

December 22nd 2016 – Jesus is Our Peace

“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35)

 

It was a simple statement. “Let us cross over to the other side.” Many of the disciples had sailed the Sea of Galilee before. They had fished the waters and endured some of the bad weather that often came onto the sea. Yet when Jesus asked them to cross over to the other side, they were not aware of the lesson in faith that Jesus was about to share with them.

(Mark 4:37-38) “And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?'”

While crossing to the other side, Jesus fell asleep on the boat. During his nap, the disciples experienced a terrible storm. I may not be a sailor, but I know that the water should remain on the outside of the boat and in this instance, it wasn’t. Frightened by the event, the disciples woke Jesus up and expressed their fear. Immediately, Jesus spoke to the wind and waves and the sea became calm. You see, the disciples had lost sight of Jesus’ words. He told them before leaving that their destination was “the other side.” He didn’t promise them still waters the whole time, but he did tell them they would get to their destination. The same is true with our lives. If you have been born again, then you have been given the promise of “the other side.” Nothing can take that from you. You may encounter storms, but in the end, Jesus will pronounce peace, and you will find yourself on the other side, at the feet of Jesus Himself.

“Jesus is our peace during the storms of life.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your peace and for Your promise of heaven. Help me to keep my mind focused on eternity so that I will not lose hope here on earth. Fill me with Your Spirit and use my life to share God’s peace with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

December 19th 2016 – Finding Peace in the Suffering

“Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,

Against the Man who is My Companion,”
Says the LORD of hosts.
“Strike the Shepherd,
And the sheep will be scattered;
Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.” (Zachariah 13:7)

Often, it can be difficult to walk through situations that we can’t explain. In this fallen, broken and sinful world, we are constantly facing trials and tribulations that shake us to the core. In the thirteenth chapter of Zechariah, we get a glimpse of our loving God’s divine plan to use the pain and suffering of His Son to change the world. Fully involved in the process, God calls for the sword to come against His Shepherd which is Jesus. When Jesus walked to the cross, He did so with determination and a purpose. It was no accident, but it was His perfect plan.

“No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” (John 10:18)

From the beginning of time God planned to use the suffering of His Son for the redemption of mankind. In the same way God can use our suffering for something far greater than ourselves. The loss of a job may mean an opportunity to display God’s peace in difficult times. The brokenness of a relationship may mean that God has something much greater for you.  The diagnosis of cancer could be the catalyst God uses to bring someone to Christ. In the hands of a mighty God, even the death of a loved one can mean the salvation of many more. The God of all creation is at work in our lives and He will use the good and the bad for His glory and our good no matter what.

“God is more concerned with His glory than our gratification, and we should be too.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am sorry for the times that I have questioned Your goodness and love. Despite life’s difficulties You have shown Your love for me in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Help me to remember this powerful Truth and to use my good times and bad times for Your Kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.

November 28th 2016 – What Do You Seek

Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” (John 1:38)

That’s the question we need to have answered in our lives isn’t it? “What do you seek?” Is it a better marriage, a promotion at work, more money to invest, more notoriety or to see your kids walking with the Lord? Are we seeking the Lord’s hand of blessing more than we are seeking the Lord Himself?

They then asked Jesus where he was staying. He told them to come and see. Where is the Lord in our lives? The Lord is saying to come and hang with Him. We ask where. The cross.

(Luke 9:23-24) Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.”

When we come to Jesus not for His hand of blessing but for His will to be done in our lives, and when we are willing to lay down our life for his sake, then He begins showing us things greater than we could possibly imagine. Later in this chapter, Jesus sees Nathaniel having devotions under the tree…

(John 1:50) Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”

Please prioritize the Lord in your devotional life. Jesus is taking note. He then tells us “You will see greater things than these.” When we lay our life down for His sake, we find that all we ever needed was Jesus.

“You don’t know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me continue to seek You because I want to know You not just what You can give me. Please forgive me when I fail in this. Give me the power of Your Spirit to set my devotion upon You and Your will for me. I thank You Lord because I can trust You’ll do even greater things with my life as I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

November 12th 2016 – Shalom of God

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-3)

Peace is mentioned over 400 times in the Bible. The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom, which means wholeness and health in every area of life. The Apostle Paul used an interesting salutation in most of his letters: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” I have never met anyone who claimed they had enough peace in their life. All of us want more peace, but sadly enough, most are not willing to go to the Source, which is God. Christian, if you are not at peace in your life, the fault lies squarely with you. No one has the power or authority to take away your peace. You have to give them that power; you have to give them that authority. Whether it is the difficult boss or the unexpected bill, giving your peace away is, quite frankly, your choice.

(John 16:33) “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

(Matthew 11:28)”Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

How wonderful is the peace of grace. You can lay your head down on your pillow at night because you have peace with God. How incredible is that? You cannot find that anywhere except at the cross. In Jesus, there is grace and peace. In the world, there is tribulation. Which do you choose?

“Jesus gives us peace. We can give our peace away or we can keep our peace.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me grace and peace. Forgive me for times when I have turned my peace over to frustration or anger. You love me and You have forgiven me. My peace is secure in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen

November 8th 2016 – True Healing Comes by the Way of the Cross

“Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”  So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them. And there He tested them,  and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”  (Exodus 15:23-26)

In the Old Testament, Jesus had not come as a human yet, but His Holy Word had already come. We know from the Word of God that on the cross, Jesus not only took our sins, but He also took our sicknesses and diseases.

(1 Peter 2:24) talks about this tree.  Look at it, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed”.

When God showed Moses a tree, he cast it into the water and the water was made sweet.  This is a type of our Jesus, He hung on the tree for you and for me.  And when we cast ourselves on Him, we are made whole.  I believe this is total wholeness, spirit, soul and body.

So today, look at the tree, and let your sins be cast on it, let your sicknesses be thrown on Him.  It is through the blood that Jesus spilled on the tree, the “cross”, that we are made well not only spirituality but physically!   What a great God we serve.

“True Healing comes by the way of the Cross, whether it is Healing for yourself, others or this Country. ask for Jesus in and allow Him to start to heal.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, At The cross You blood spilled Your blood for me.  The work of Calvary was a complete work, a work that was completely done in me.  Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the that tree (cross) and bearing all of my shortcomings so that I can be whole, so I can be healed, so I can be set free because of what you sacrificed on the tree… I love You and trust You Lord. I will not take my eyes off you… in Your precious name Amen.

October 29th 2016 – Shalom

“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)

Used as salutation by Jews at meeting or parting, meaning “peace.”

Peace. That one word is sought after by billions all over this world. Peace of mind. Peace from war. Peace in the midst of suffering. All of us long for peace; unfortunately, many people miss the source of true peace.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Many years before the coming of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah spoke the words above. He was proclaiming the coming Messiah who would be the Prince of Peace. The peace that He brings is true Shalom and means far more than our concept of comfort and rest. Shalom describes safety, well being, health, prosperity, peace, rest and wholeness. Shalom is what Christ came to offer. Through Christ, we can find rest from having to work for Heaven. We are made whole in our relationship with God and have security in our salvation. We also have a peace that is available to us in the middle of life’s storms as we learn to trust and walk in obedience to our King. Are you without peace? Seek the Prince of Peace in every area of your life and you will find His Shalom waiting for you in abundance.

“God is a God of Shalom or peace.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the love You have shown me and the peace You offer me. Father, help me to seek You in everything and to trust You with every area of my life. As I do this, I pray that I would experience Your Shalom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
