September 11th 2011 – Garden of Your Heart

“This is what the LORD says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: ‘Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns.’” (Jeremiah 4:3)

If you have every planted a garden, you know that seed does not do well on hard ground. No matter how many seeds thrown to the ground, they will just bounce around until they are either eaten or blown away. In order for the seeds to take root and produce fruit, they must actually enter into the ground which means the ground must first be plowed.

Plowing is not easy. It takes time and energy to break open the dry ground in order to expose and prepare the soil underneath. The same is true with our hearts. Apart from God, our hearts are sun dried and barren, but when we begin honestly looking into the Word of God, the Holy Spirit begins plowing our heart so that we will receive the Truths of God. Just like gardening, it can be hard but it is worth the effort. The more we take God’s Word to heart, the more God digs out rocks of sin and pride, while planting great promises. God desires to see our lives filled with the fruit of His Spirit, but we must first be willing to be broken. Don’t fight it, embrace it, and you will find great joy awaiting the other end.

“The Holy Bible is the Word of God and is our source for everything we need to know about God, ourselves and salvation.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the love that You have shown me and the promise that You can make me new. Give me the strength to trust You as you plow my heart. Open my heart to understanding and my mind to your Truth. Plant in me all that You desire and use me to be a vessel of your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 10th 2017 – His Amazing and Perfect Love

“But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.”(Malachi 4:2)

The prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures often centered on a common theme of the coming judgment for the people of Israel. In the book of Malachi, it is no different. This final book of the Old Testament brings a very real promise of coming judgment, yet in the midst of this proclamation is a message of hope and blessings. You see, the reality is that our sin is worthy of God’s judgment. We have broken His laws and deserve punishment, but God does not leave us there. Instead, He stepped down out of Heaven, in the form of Jesus Christ, and made a way for us to be saved from this punishment.

When Jesus died on the cross over 2000 years ago, He proclaimed to the whole world His love for mankind. Now because of this amazing love, we can find hope and a future in a relationship with Jesus. When we realize our sin and turn to God for forgiveness, He opens His arms wide desiring to shower us with His grace and mercy. This is the God of the Bible, both perfect in judgment and perfect in love. Do you know Him? If so, rejoice because the coming of the Lord brings healing and joy! If not, then come to Him today and find rest for your weary soul and love for all eternity.

“The day of the Lord brings healing & joy to those who fear the Lord.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned against You and I pray that You would forgive me of my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again so that I could be forgiven. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to live a life dedicated to You. Thank You for Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer, Congratulations!

(Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that He answered your prayer.

September 8th 2017 – Watching our Words

“Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you.” (2 Corinthians 12:19)

Relationships are difficult. They require work, constant attention and above all, they should be filled with love. Of course, this is easier said than done in many cases. What happens when you are dealing with a difficult or stubborn person? Often, we begin identifying what is wrong with the other person, but what if we looked first at ourselves? What if we first asked, “How should I respond?”

(Proverbs 15:1) “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.”

In our flesh, we don’t feel like returning anger with a gentle answer, but it will put the fire out. A harsh word makes it escalate. It’s amazing how much the Bible mentions about the effect of our words. Watching your words can make your job better, relationships better and give you less regrets later. Do you want to change the people in your life? Start by changing yourself and the perfect place to begin is with your words. Respond in love, and God can do amazing things in all your relationships.

“By being slow to anger and choosing to love people even when it’s hard, you can be changed today. Every relationship you have including your job can be improved today.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the love You have shown me. Help me to show love in my relationships and to watch my words. Give me the strength to be slow to speak and slow to become angry. Lord, help me also understand that Love is also a choice, and help my heart choose love in the tough times when I dont always feel like it. May my actions of being slow to anger and expressing love even when it’s hard, change the world, one relationship at a time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

September 2nd 2017 – Grace & Peace

“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:2)

Grace. It’s a word we use a lot in Christianity, but do we truly understand what it means? To some, grace is just a prayer you say before eating, but in reality, grace is a life changing experience. Each of us is born into this world with a problem. That problem is that we are enemies of God. Because of our sin, we are at war with God and therefore, we deserve punishment. This tension between us and God leads to frustration, anxiety and fear. After all, if I know that I have done bad things, how am I supposed to make up for them? Can I do good things to outweigh it? No. Can I punish myself to satisfy God? No. The only solution for complete peace with God is His grace.

(Ephesians 2:8) “For by grace you have been savedthrough faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”

When we admit to God that we are sinners and believe in Jesus for forgiveness, we experience His grace. God gives us forgiveness, love and eternal rewards not because we are good, but because He is. This is grace. When we understand this grace, we have peace. Peace to know that God is with us. Peace even in the storms of life because we know that God is on our side. While the world uses drugs, alcohol, sex and money to achieve temporary peace, God offers eternal peace. This peace doesn’t come from us earning it, but from the perfect grace of a loving God.

“If you don’t know grace, you can’t know peace.”

“No God No Peace, Know God know Peace”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the grace that comes through Jesus. Because of this amazing grace, I can have true peace. No matter what today throws at me, I can know that Your love is true and Your forgiveness is real. May these Truths stay in the front of my mind and may You use me to share this peace with others today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Invitation:

Jesus, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious name Amen.

August 21st 2017 – I’m Never Alone

“Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.” (Psalm 17:5)

Have you ever felt like your faith was slipping, that perhaps God wasn’t with you in a given circumstance or situation? It’s important to know that if we have stumbled into sin, or have had others abandon us completely, there is one thing the Lord tells us in His Word we can count on. If we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior He will never leave us or forsake us. (Matthew 28:20). Even when we are faithless and have doubts He is faithful (see 2 Timothy 2:13). The Lord even breaks out the heavenly host to help us:

(Psalm 91:11-16)
“For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

Whenever you are tempted by feeling the Lord isn’t near, please put your heart at rest in His promises. Thank God for all He has blessed you with and believe His truth is a fact of faith for you. As you meditate on whatever is true, pure, good, and lovely in the Lord be encouraged to know that even when you don’t feel Him, He has never let go of you.

“It is not your hold on Jesus that saves you. It is Jesus, Himself, what He did, what He has done, and His hold on you, that saves you.”

Prayer:

Lord, please forgive me when things cloud my ability to see that You are with me. Please give me the strength to see that truly You are always with me. Thank You for loving me so much that You died so I could have forgiveness and the eternal hope that I have in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen

August 5th 2017 – Fruit of the Spirit (P3)

We are on the 3rd day of a 9-day journey to learn about all of the fruit of the Spirit – the gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control that come from God.

What is the Fruit of the Peace?

“If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18)

We are born at war. At birth, our sinful nature has already declared war on God and His truth. Our heart’s desire is to be separated from Him, and if we persist in this desire until death, He will give us what we want.

But God’s methods of warfare are not what we expected. Instead of a battle, He sent us the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus’ goal in coming to earth was more than simply to cease hostilities; He came to bring about a full and abiding relationship of restoration and love. The cost of this peace was His life (Isaiah 53:5).

But, just as we cannot force another to be at peace with us, even Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross did not ensure that we would accept His terms of peace. Romans 3:10-11 explains, “There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God.” None of us can accept Jesus’ offer of peace through our own will and power. Our natural selves do not want it. Only God can lead us to want peace with Him; the Holy Spirit leads us to want Jesus and His message. Once the Spirit draws us, we believe in Jesus, and the peace comes. “Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

The Spirit-filled Christian has a peace that is abundant, available in every situation, and unlike anything that the world has to offer.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

The alternative to being filled with the Spirit and His peace is to be filled with alarm, filled with doubt, filled with foreboding, or filled with dread. How much better to let the Spirit have control and perform His work of growing fruit to the glory of God!

“Do all that you can to live in peace with one another.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the work done on my behalf. Beacuse of Your sacrifice on the cross and my acceptance of You in my heart, I do not have to be anxious about my salvation. I place my faith in the grace of Christ. Please give me rest and an abundance of peace in my life. Help me to continually seek You in my life, because it is in You where I will find true peace. Help me live by Your word and draw on Your love so that I can be at peace with others when they annoy me. I Love You Lord, and I choose Peace. Today open up opportunities to share this truth with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 24th 2017 – Satisfaction Guaranteed

“For I am like those who gather summer fruits, like those who glean vintage grapes; there is no cluster to eat of the first-ripe fruit which my soul desires.” (Micah 7:1)

Each of us looks for something to satisfy our souls. In fact, companies and advertising agencies know this and have set out to convince you they have what you desire. The truth is that after all the colorful ads and convincing sales tactics, the product is temporary and will leave you right where you started – empty. The good news is that there is someone who loves us and what He offers will never fade away.

(Micah 7:7) “Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.”

You see, this world will offer you everything under the sun but what it cannot offer is lasting hope, forgiveness of sins and an abundant life both now and forever. This only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ. He alone hung on the cross so that we could be freed of our sin. He alone rose from the grave, defeating death and securing our eternity. He alone can satisfy our soul. Like Micah, if you are searching for “fruit which my soul desires” then look no further than Jesus. Nothing on this earth can even compare to Him.

“We will not find solace for our emptiness from the world no matter how much we look.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am tired of looking to this world for satisfaction. Lord, I desire to know the fulfillment that comes from a relationship with Jesus. Father, forgive me of my sins and wash me clean of all unrighteousness. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me to seek You first above all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen

June 18th 2017 – Heart of A Father

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

Happy Fathers Day to the Dad’s!

A father is a gift to his children.  A father needs to have the heart of the true Father, Almighty God.  Of all the attributes that Jesus brought out about Almighty God, the greatest is that He called Him Father.  True fathers are not perfect, but they have such a love in their heart for their children that, at times, it feels like their heart wants to burst.

A father wants the best for his kids, yet he knows that the best for his kids is to let them make mistakes and hit bumps in life.

What Is A Dad?

A Dad is someone who wants to always catch you before you fall but instead picks you up,
brushes you off, and lets you try again.

A Dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt.

A Dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail.

Dads, the greatest thing that we can do for our children is to show them the Father God.  Spend time with your children, and be a man of God, and a man that walks in the ways of God.  Remember, you are the image of God to your children, so let them see a big, loving Father: one who is there when they need him, and one whose passion is after the heart of the true Father, Almighty God.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Today, I make a decision to be the person that my children can look at to see the Father God. Today I make a decision to live a life that says really loudly, “God loves you and so do I” Bless the fathers, who have taken upon themselves the responsibility of parenting. Bless those parents who have lost a spouse to death … or divorce who are parenting their children alone. Strengthen them by your love that they may become the loving, caring persons they are meant to be. Guide them to be good role models and loving to their children. Help them to be a father like You are. Give them grace and patience to handle situations in a loving way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Personal Note… I wish to praise You God for the gift of Fatherhood.  You blessed me with three amazing children, Marissa, Michael and Larry… even with all my mistakes and screw-ups. You always helped me.  I am so proud of them….

June 15th 2017 – Show me True Peace!

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 )

People all around us are seeking peace in their life. They seek that peace through lots of different ways. For some, it’s entertainment, for others it could be relationships, food or even in drugs or alcohol. Some may even turn to religion for peace, yet fail to find it because human religions are based on man working his way to heaven. There is no real rest for the person who seeks to earn peace through rules and regulations.

But, then came Jesus.

Jesus came into the world to live the life we could not. He was perfect, blameless and humble. He lived in obedience to God the Father and fulfilled the law. Then as He hung on the cross He cried out, “it is finished,” thereby completing our salvation. Now, we come to God by faith in Christ and we are accepted. It’s by His grace we are saved, not works. Unlike the man made religions around us, Christianity is God coming to mankind and offering salvation on His works not ours. All we must do is rest, by faith, in the One who died so that we could be forgiven.

“To be able to ‘rest in your faith’ or have peace, you must be trusting in Christ alone.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the work done on my behalf. Thank You that I do not have to work my way to Heaven, but instead can place my faith in the grace of Christ. Please give me rest and an abundance of peace in my life. Help me to continually seek You in my life, because it is in You where I will find true peace. Today open up opportunities to share this truth with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
