August 27th 2018 – Pray with Amazement

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry” (Psalm 34:15)

When I was a boy, I often wonderd how God could listen to so many prayers at the same time. How could He possibly hear each one and yet keep the babble of voices separate? And how could He answer those prayers when one person asks for rain and another for sunshine both on the same day?

These problems no longer trouble me, even though I still can’t explain how God can respond to our prayers. I do know, however, that He is all-knowing and present everywhere, and that His wisdom and power are beyond our comprehension.

We don’t have to take turns coming to Him, nor must we wait for just the right opportunity. At any time and in any place we can lift our voices to the Lord with full assurance that He will hear us. And He does more than just receive our requests—He comprehends, He understands, and He perceives exactly what His children ask for in faith.

Has God heard you yet today? He invites you to make your requests known to Him. What a tragedy that so many of His children go through the day without uttering a single prayer to the One who takes pleasure in hearing their voices! (Proverbs 15:8) says, “The prayer of the upright is His delight.” So pray. God listens!

There never is a night or day When God won’t hear us as we pray;

There is no time, there is no place, When He would withhold His love and grace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We want to thank You for hearing each and every prayer that we make to You., and we give praises to each prayer that You have answered. It still amazes me how even when it’s sometimes not the answer we may want, when we look back we can see that it’s is always what was best for us. We love You and we sing your praises. With love, I give it all to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 20th 2018 – Recharged Revival

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” (Revelation 2:4)

If you want to experience revival in your life, then hang out with a brand-new believer. It is the best thing you can do for your own spiritual health. A brand-new believer is all charged up and has questions that will have you digging back into the Scriptures again. You stabilize that new Christian, and he or she reenergizes you. Everyone benefits.

On the other hand, if you hang around with jaded Christians, with those who have even become cynical, then you probabally need to find some new friends. Sometimes people worry about new believers not changing quickly enough, but I am more concerned with older believers who have stopped changing altogether. They are settled in their ways. Maybe they have traded in old vices like immorality, drinking, drugs, or profanity and replaced them with new ones like gossip, bitterness or self-righteous pride. Another big one is disappointment with God for what they feel He may owes them, such as unanswered prayers.

I find it interesting that at least 75 percent of the Christians who personally share their faith have been believers for five years or less. In other words, most people who come to Christ through personal evangelism have done so because someone young in the faith shared the gospel with them.

I think this is because new believers are still discovering what God has done for them. They are still excited about it. As we get older in the faith and have walked with the Lord for a time, we start taking these things for granted sometimes. That means we need revival. We need to be brought back to that place where we once were, where we realize how important it is to share with others what Jesus has done for us.

If we have no desire to share our faith, then we need to experience Revival!

“Revived people are evangelistic people because their evangelism is a result of excitement and gratitude to the Lord”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Bible. It is through these pages that we find life and light. Within Your Word, there is the story of our salvation in Christ and instruction on how we can live victorious lives. Teach me Your ways and help me grow in wisdom and understanding. Father, we pray not for shallow selfish ends, but for Your great glory and kingdom. Cause us to come to You in true humility, brokenness and contriteness of heart. May this be time Lord, that this nation falls on its knees in prayer. In Jesus’ Glorious and Holy Name. Amen!

August 16 2018 – Ture Wisdom Begins and Ends with God

“For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;” (Proverbs 2:6)

I’m sure each of us could use a little more wisdom. After all, life is complicated, and we can always use insight into raising kids, loving our enemy or working at our jobs. Each area of life brings challenges that demand wisdom to overcome. The good news is that God desires to give us wisdom if we ask.

(James 1:5) “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

When we ask in faith, God says He will give wisdom liberally. This is wisdom that spills over us like a cup overflowing with water. While God does give us wisdom when we ask, He is not going to simply pour out all the wisdom we will ever need in one sitting. That would be great to receive perfect understanding after one prayer, but often we must come back to Him time and time again. This helps us understand our dependence on Him, and it also builds up our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Like a child, we come to our Heavenly dad needing guidance, and He responds in love. What’s even better is that He never gets tired of us asking. He loves it. So as you begin your day, seek God for wisdom. No matter what area of life you need understanding in, you can ask Him, and He will respond in abundance.

“True wisdom begins and ends with God”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for listening to my prayers and for the promise of wisdom. Today, I ask for wisdom in my life. Give me understanding in how to deal with my life so that You are glorified when others see me. Guide my steps so that I walk in the good works You have for me to do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 14th 2018 – Memory Full, No Space Available

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

I’ve been known to fill up the storage space on my smart phone. I take lots of pictures, reminders of things needed for work, friends and family. I keep them all on my phone. I often back them up to my computer but I keep alot of them right there on my phone, many are of them are the important people in my life and my pets and I enjoy looking at them. But just the other day I was trying to save a document, and my memory was full.

Wouldn’t it be great if, when the devil comes knocking at the door of our minds with an illicit thought, a message pops up that reads, (Memory is full with the Word of God.) There’s no room for you or your thoughts. Don’t even bother? Far too often we have a lot of storage available, and we’re willing to entertain those thoughts.

Temptation, in most cases, comes through the doorway of our minds. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).

When our guard is down and those flaming arrows of ungodly thoughts come our way, we are to “Cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Paul also said, “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Let’s think about things that will build us up not things that will tear us down.

Trials and temptations will come. Take steps now to be prepared for that.”

Prayer:

Thank You for loving me. I know that I have done wrong and have sinned against You. Father, please forgive me and fill me with Your Spirit so that I can fight temptation. We call upon You in the times that ungodly thoughts and temptations enter our mind. Give us the strength to delete these spiritual attacks right away. our heavy burdens, until we can again feel the warmth and love of Your divine compassion. Protect us in our temptations. Be mindful of us and have mercy on us while we struggle to comprehend life’s trials and temptations that come in our of life. When fear and panic, shock and dismay are close by, so are you. Maywe always recconize you ,  Keep us ever in Your watch until these storms of life pass. In Jesus’ precious and glorious name, Amen.

August 8th 2018 – Fear No Evil

“though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalms 23:4)

We see in all of these verses so far that the Shepherd leads, guides, helps, and loves us. Now, in this verse, it changes from the Shepherd’s actions and love for us, to our own actions.  You see, in life there are going to be times when we don’t listen so that we get ourselves in places we shouldn’t be.  Here it’s called “the valley of the shadow of death”.

Have you ever had times like that?  You find that the grass isn’t green and the stream is dirty and you say, “how did I get here?”  You see that it was through your own decisions, or you didn’t take the time to listen to the Shepherd’s voice, that you opened doors that should have stayed shut.

Even in these times, even when we mess up, the Great Shepherd doesn’t leave us.  No! He promised us that He would never leave us or forsake us. Never means never and here we see the same promise.  I will fear no evil, why? His written word “FOR YOU ARE WITH ME!” What a promise.  When we mess up, we need to ‘fess up and He, the Great Shepherd, forgives and restores.

Even when we open doors to the evil one, our Shepherd takes out His mighty rod and grabs hold of us with His wonderful staff and brings great comfort to our lives. What security, what comfort, what hope we have because of our amazing Jesus.

So take heart today that there is no sin too strong that the blood of Jesus can’t wash away. Rest in His loving arms and hear His heartbeat as you lay your head upon His chest. Know that He loves you and will always protect you against anything that the enemy might bring against you.  He’ll even protect you when you open a door that you shouldn’t have.

Remember, once you have accepted Jesus Christ as you Lord and Savior, He will never leave you or forsake you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the blood of Jesus that has washed me white as snow.  I thank You that no matter what comes against me or even when I’m walking in the valley, You are there to comfort and to restore.  What a God I serve. In Jesus precious name. Amen..

August 7th 2018 – Sin Will Cause You Spiritual Deafness

“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.”(Psalm 24:3-4)

How deeply I share the Psalmist’s desire! Such a passion for God’s voice sparked the flame of every revival in Scripture. Yet, I sense our joyful devotion to God’s word is deeply eroding today by our elevation of emotion, our love for money, our love of substances, our desire to be accepted, and our pursuit of worldly success. SIN is the underlining reason why we grow dull of hearing God’s voice.

Have you ever found a church service or bible study boring? Perhaps the poor skill of the preacher or bible teacher is at fault. Or, maybe you just need a new bible version to spice things up. Or, possibly a new emotionally charged worship style will do the trick. Or, so we think. Yet, such external maneuvers lack the power to change the hunger of the soul. According to Scripture the flame of faith can only be ignited by a new passion for God’s Word.

The reason for our spiritual boredom lies more deeply and personally within us. Our ears grow deaf to the word of God because of the presence of sin in our lives. Oh, none of us wants to admit it. We try to justify the reasons we may sin to ourselves and others, we look for some external reason, Yet, the reality is that spiritual truths don’t resonate in our hearts because they are tuned to the world.

Sin in our lives keeps us from hearing and understanding God’s word. James makes this connection when he writes, “lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).

Before we can clearly hear Gods direction through the Holy Spirit we’ve got to get rid of the filthiness. The word for “filth” in this text is a medical term that means “wax in the ear.” James described it like this, “Sin in your life plugs up your desire to hear God.”

The real sincere craving after God’s word only comes from a heart that is starved of sin and selfishness.

D.L. Moody famously said,

“The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible.”

(1 John 1:9-10) “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for taking my sin upon You. I am sorry for the wrong things I have done and for the right I have failed to do. I don’t want to be spiritually deaf to hear you, or spiritually blind to see your plan for my life any longer. I confess my sins to You and ask for forgiveness. (Confess your sins, by act and by name to Him). Lord, thank You for helping me with my past and present sins. Help me to keep my eyes not on my sin, but on my Savior, Jesus. Help me to soar by casting off the weights of sin. Help me to live the life You have called me to live. I thank You for having a winning game plan for dealing with my Sin, In Jesus’ name, Amen

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Amen.

If you have done this, then congratulations! (Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

July 30th 2018 – Quiet Time With God

“I have…treasured his words more than daily food.” (Job 23:12)

Your quiet time with God is more than just a good idea, it’s vital to your spiritual survival. It’s also essential to your spiritual growth and maturity. You say, “But I go to church every week.” Can you imagine what would happen if you ate only once a week? The patriarch Job said, “I have…treasured his words more than daily food.” Peter described the scriptures as nourishing milk.

“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment” (1 Peter 2:2)

The writer to the Hebrews called the Word of God solid food.

“Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.” (Hebrews 5:14).

Your quiet time is also like a spiritual bath. Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3).

You shower every day to stay clean and avoid body odors. It’s not easy to be around someone who smells bad, and you run the risk of offending them by telling them so. But if you love them you’ll do it. Jesus told Peter, “Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” (Matthew 16:23).

Here’s the bottom line. Unless you protect your quiet time with God:

(1) You’ll be cut off from your source of strength, guidance, and wisdom;

(2) Your usefulness to God will be limited;

(3) You’ll be inconsistent in your Christian life.

You may say, “But I don’t have time!” You have the same 168 hours each week that everybody else has! And how you spend them is determined by what you think is most important. So if you think being in fellowship with God is important, begin to make time for it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful and blessed for the time we spend together every morning. I pray that you would draw me even closer. I love you Lord and Thank you for guiding me through this life.. in your precious name, Amen.

July 26th 2018 – Identity Crisis

And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)

Right after this blessed moment of baptism God confirms Jesus identity and announces His pleasure. Shortly after this strong affirmation from God we find Jesus, in (Matthew 4:1-10), being tempted by the enemy after enduring a forty day fast. The enemy immediately challenges what God has spoken by saying ‘if You are the Son of God’.

Understand that the enemy’s first temptation often times is to get us to question our identity in Christ. When we receive God’s gracious, unearned gift of salvation our identity is sealed in the blood of Christ, which defeats the enemy. Could you imagine an 1st grade student coming home with the an ‘F’ on his/her report card and the parent saying “you are no longer my child, change your name and leave my house!” Of course not! Neither does the Lord dismiss you or I when we fail because His love never fails (1Corinthians 13:8).

If you were gardening and you saw a plant that was drooping and bent downward would you uproot the plant trash it and start over? Hopefully not. What a skilled gardener often will do is put a wooden stake in the ground next to it and tie the plant to it, leaving the plant dependent on the wood to grow. This is our life in Christ, leaning not on our own works, but on the grace that God purchased through Jesus Christ on that cross to help us to grow in Him.

“The enemy wants you to doubt who you are, whose you are, and to spend time trying to earn what you have already been given.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for dying for me so I could have identity in You as Your beloved. Please help me to continue to remember the grace You have shown to me at the cross that I might live for You, in good times and bad, all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 25th 2018 – Open Our Spiritural Eyes

“When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and they begged him to touch the man and heal him. Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man’s eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, “Can you see anything now?” The man looked around. “Yes,” he said, “I see people, but I can’t see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around.” (Mark 8:22-25)

I was listening to a sermon on the youtube. This guy was preaching on Mark 8. In that Scripture, Jesus spit in the man’s eyes and said, “What do you see?” The man said, “Men like trees, walking.” Then He touched him again and the man was healed. The preacher  said, “See, even with Jesus it doesn’t always work the first time.” I couldn’t believe he said that! So I set out to find the meaning of that verse. I studied what Gods word said, and then I heard the Lord say, “Why don’t you just ask Me what it means?” Before I could even ask Him, the Lord began revealing the meaning to me. It wasn’t that it didn’t work the first time. It’s that before He opened the man’s natural eyes, He opened his spiritual eyes.

Let’s look deeper at what happened before this story in Mark 8. Jesus had just finished feeding 4,000 people with only seven loaves of bread and the Pharisees came to Him and said, “Show us a sign.” Jesus was probably thinking, Were you not just here for lunch? Talk about spiritual blindness! But it continued as Jesus and the disciples got on a boat. The disciples forgot to bring bread, and when Jesus said, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees,” they thought He was mad because there was no bread. Do you think Jesus, who just fed 4,000 people with seven loaves of bread, was worried about not having bread? He wasn’t talking about physical bread. He told them they didn’t understand what He was talking about because they have eyes but do not see. Then, as soon as they got off the boat, Jesus opened the eyes of the blind man. Do you see the symbolism there?

Maybe you’re thinking you need Jesus to open your spiritual eyes, too. The Bible says there is a veil over our eyes until we believe. But even after that, we must beware of our pride. If you read the Bible and think you know everything already, you won’t see anything. It wasn’t until I asked God to tell me the meaning of the story that I understood. If you take your Bible and pray, “Lord, I am blind without You. I can’t understand the Bible unless You show me,” then He will open your spiritual eyes, and things will begin to jump off the page.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We can’t truly see or hear without You. We want to receive spiritual sight today. We want Your words to jump off my Bible’s pages at us. Help us to see things in Scripture that we didn’t see before. We want You to speak to us through Your Word for our jobs, careers, families, marriages and our lives. We want to live by the Word of God, not by natural bread, alone. We love and praise You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

July 23rd 2018 – Help Restore, Not Comdemn

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)

The way some people behave, you would think that the Bible says, “If another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should first gloat about it and make sure that you condemn him or her for it. Then proceed to tell as many people as possible.”

The Bible doesn’t say that, of course. Here is what it does say: “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself” (Galatians 6:1)

The idea is to lift up those who are overtaken by sin, not condemn them. The idea is to restore them, not destroy them. Notice this verse says, “You who are godly.” A truly godly man or woman will seek to restore such a person. The book of (James 5:19–20) says, “My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.”

One day, God forbid, it could be you or me. We should never lower our guard or rest on our credit spiritually. No matter how long you have known the Lord, don’t think that you are above falling, because you could fall. Any believer could. That is why we want to always be moving forward, walking with God and progressing spiritually. We never want to coast along in neutral.

And if you know someone who has fallen into sin, then your goal should be to restore, not to destroy. Your goal should be to help him or her, because the next time it could be you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your correction in times when I have lost sight of You. Help me to correct others with wisdom and gentleness. Use me as a tool to bring restoration to those who need help along the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
