“I will rise now,” I said, “And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.” I sought him, but I did not find him.” (Song of Solomon 3-2)

In the Song of Solomon, we see that Solomon’s bride-to-be desired to be with her beloved in a major way. She was caught up in her emotions and began dreaming of running through the city to find him and bring him back to her bed chamber. While her love and desire was not a bad thing, they were beginning to take her down a dangerous path.

Whether it is a love we have towards someone, sadness over a loss or anger over an injustice, we have all faced overwhelming emotions. So what are we to do with those emotions? First, we must understand that emotions are a gift and when used properly, they can help us experience life to the fullest. The dangerous part is when we allow the emotions to control us rather than us controlling our emotions.

We must also understand how to best control our emotions. This is done through the power and understanding of God’s Word. When we are faced with anxiety, we should respond in thanksgiving to God.

(Philippians 4:6-7) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

When anger burns in our hearts, we can respond by looking at the cross and remembering what God did for us.

(Ephesians 4:31-32) “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

In the case of lust, we must deny ourselves and turn to Christ.

(2 Timothy 2:22) “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

When we filter our emotions through God’s Word, we will find peace, joy and the ability to persevere no matter the circumstance we face.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for creating me with emotions so that I can experience life all around me. Give me the wisdom and guidance to control my emotions so that they don’t control me. Speak to me through Your Word and guide me by Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)

We all know that pride is a dangerous thing. It causes damage to others and leads to division and bitterness. But, do you know what is even worse than pride? Spiritual pride. You see, God has gifted each and every one of us with spiritual gifts that we can use for the benefit of the body of Christ. Unfortunately, it can be easy to begin thinking it was our power to begin with.

I have some unsaved friends that have some amaizing gifts, some are incredible muscians, auto mechanics, one is even artist with very unique talents. I also have very unique talents that I had many years before becoming saved, I continue to use these gifts to share Gods word and love.

We can almost always use our talents to share Gods love. For example, the musician can write and preform songs that glorify the Lord. The artist can make art that represents Jesus love for humanity. You see, we can always show Gods love through our talents and bless people.

Just like salvation is a gift from God and not by works, the same is true with our gifts. We did not earn our gifts, and God does not show favoritism. Each spiritual gift is just that, a gift. It was given from a loving God who desires to equip you and me to share the Gospel with a hurting world. If we begin thinking we are the source of that power, we can be a hindrance to the Kingdom as well as our own spiritual growth.

“Our spiritual gifts do not come from us, they come from God.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Holy Spirit. Thank You for His work in my life. Father, help me to continue to use the gifts You have given me for Your glory and not my own. I praise You for Your forgiveness and love and pray for opportunities to share Your Gospel with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” (2 Timothy 4:5)

The Christian life is filled with both blessing and suffering. The spiritual blessings we receive as children of God are a great reminder of our Father’s love for us, yet we must remember that we will also suffer for the sake of Christ.

(Romans 8:17) “And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”

The last chapter of 2 Timothy is Paul’s final written words. The apostle looks back over his life and sees a life poured out for the sake of Christ. His life was a life of sacrifice. He experienced persecution, shipwrecks, imprisonment and more. He also experienced the power of God through great miracles and visions. In the Christian life, these two things go together. As we sacrifice for Jesus, we will find great blessing and joy. You may not travel the world enduring persecution like Paul, but as you give up more of yourself for the Kingdom of God, you will share in both the sacrifice and power of Jesus Christ. What sacrifice could you make that would change the life of someone today?

“The irony in sacrifice is that you often exchange one thing of value for another with the latter being a true demonstration of where your heart lies.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the sacrifice of Christ for the removal of my sins. Give me the power to live a life of sacrifice for the sake of others. Open my eyes to the needs of others so that I can be a blessing. Fill me with Your Spirit and use me for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.'” (Acts 8:18-19)

In this passage, Simon thought he could buy the power of the Holy Spirit. Simon wanted this power so that he could impress others. That is not what the power of God is for. The power of God is given that we may live for Him. We have the power of God that our lives might demonstrate God’s work changing us. We should be good stewards by using our power and resources to reach people. We should want to encourage people in their faith. Throughout the Bible, we see Jesus using His power to touch lives, and He did so without weird displays. I believe this gives us our model of what using that power looks like. Why do you desire supernatural power? Hopefully it is to bless others. How do you use your God given resources? Is it to bless and reach others? I hope that it is. With what we have been given, we can make a difference in the hereafter by making a difference in the here and now.

Heavenly Father, All the good things in my life have come from You. My life, my strength, my wisdom, and all that I am or hope to be is a gift from You. I want to use my power, strength, and resources to reach a lost and dying world. We know from Your life, Jesus, that You cared about people. As I follow You, help me to care for others. Help me to use what You have given me wisely as a good steward to reach others. In the name of Yeshua, Jesus, Amen.

“and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God. After this he built a wall outside the City of David on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate; and it enclosed Ophel, and he raised it to a very great height. Then he put military captains in all the fortified cities of Judah.” (2 Chronicles 33:13-14)

Manasseh began as one of the worst kings in Israel and because of his sin, he was led into captivity. It was during that time that he finally called out to God. You see, God knows how to get our attention. It is much better to have Him speak, while we listen, write it down and begin to change. Our selfishness can lead us to be in bondage, while putting God first leads to maximum freedom.

After God graciously heard the prayers of Manasseh and forgave him, the king began thinking about the lives of others. This is what should occur after we experience Gods love. Yet, so many Christians don’t give or volunteer in church so other people can get saved or learn about God and the Bible. The sad news is that not only are people not hearing, but those believers are missing blessings in this world and in eternity. God desires to use us to make a difference, but we cannot have an eternal impact until we set our eyes on the one who saved us – Jesus.

“You can make a difference in your home, your workplace, your church, your community, this world and in eternity. You can… but will you?”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am sorry if I have not been thinking of others first. I pray that You would forgive me and give me a fresh look at the love You have for me. I know that as I think about Your grace and mercy, I will find the power to love others like You love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,” (1 Corinthians 12:9)

What do you think about when you hear the words “healing” or “miracle”? Depending on how you grew up, these words may spark memories. Some of us may remember the charismatic preachers on television or even roadside tent revivals. Even though they may have involved miraculous signs and wonders, others may simply reject the notion that mircals even occur today.

Regardless of what we have seen or heard, we must always remember to ask the question, “What does the bible say?” You see, what we believe is not dependent on our opinion or upbringing, but fully relies on what God has revealed to us through His Word.

As we look into the glorious and perfect Word of the Lord, we see that He has given us His Spirit to help spread the Gospel and minister to one another. In 1 Corinthians 12, we see that Paul clearly states that the Holy Spirit can empower us with the gift of healings and miracles. While these can refer to many things, we must understand that we have the chance to be part of one of the greatest healings of all time.

What could that be you ask?  Simply put, it’s the dead coming to life. When we share with others the Gospel and they respond, they go from death to life, from condemnation to forgiveness, from being a child of the adversary to a child of the living God. Maybe you’ve never experienced that supernatural healing. God desires to forgive your sins and make you new. All you have to do is come to Him. Are you ready for healing?

“Don’t ever forget that God still heals. He heals us spiritually, physically and emotionally”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that I have done wrong in my life and I ask that You forgive me. Lord, I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and that He rose again. I come to You today and ask that You would create in me a clean heart and make me new. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me to walk with You every day of my life. I love You Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

And from the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its common-lands, Alemeth with its common-lands, and Anathoth with its common-lands. All their cities among their families were thirteen.” (1 Chronicles 6:57-60)

My wife and I were talking last night in the car. We were discussing a friends post about how aweful the ability to receive the proper healthcare due to our ridiculous affordable healthcare act. (I also can speak from experience, my wife and I have been the primary caregivers for my mother for close to 4 years.) I had mad a statement how I dispised a particular individual, I even felt hatred in my heart.

I have a strong beleive system and alot of faith. I love the Lord Jesus Christ, and I love our Country. But I am also still a sinner, I am still dealing with many thorns in my side. I have these moments where my flesh and my faith meet at a crossroad.

In my quiet time this morning repenting for my actions the Lord corrected my heart.

Jesus equated hating someone with murder because murder is what lurks in the heart of all who hate. Jesus also equated lust with adultery because adultery is what lurks in the heart of all who lust. It is a heart issue. Without physically committing murder, we have still done so because it is in our heart. Sin has many tentacles and it will find its way into all the cracks we leave open in our lives. Who can say they have never hated? Who can say they have never lusted, lied or stolen? We all need a refuge.

The church is a hospital for sinners and not a museum for saints. The perfect church does not exist because all churches are made up of people and all people have sinned (Romans 3:10, 23).

The church is a refuge where murderers, adulterers, liars and idolaters come to the One who can forgive our sins, Jesus. When the church puts on an air of righteousness and unobtainable holiness, we cease to be a refuge and become a museum instead.

(Hebrews 6:18) “So God has given us both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for providing Your Son as a refuge for my sins. Lord, I need You. Through You, I can lay down the chains of my past and lay hold of the hope You have set before me. Help me to be strength to others. Give me the ability to use my gifts and talents to draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.” (Acts 12:5)

I encourage you to begin ‘walking in prayer’. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing.” At first glance, this seems impossible. In considering this further, we see that Paul is telling us to walk in prayer. A portion of my own prayer life is made up of simple short prayers as I commute to work, wait in line at a local store or on a walk alone. This makes me much more aware of the presence of God in my life. Often, when someone asks me to pray for them, I pray for them right then and there. I want the person to know I have prayed for them. Let me encourage you to begin walking in prayer today. You will discover what an amazing difference it will make in your life.

“Praying is simply talking and listening to God.”

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of prayer. Thank You for the gift of being able to talk to You and listen to You wherever I am, whoever I am with and whatever I am doing. I ask, Lord, that I would develop a lifestyle of talking and listening to You. Help me to pray throughout my day and enjoy the time I get to spend with You. Also, help me to remember to pray for others. Thanks God for listening to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.” (1 Timothy 6:5)

If we look around long enough, any of us can find someone who appears to have it all together. Even now, an individual has popped into your mind. To you this person is a picture of goodness. Their gracious manner and presence may have you imagining God’s love hovering over their head like a glowing halo. While you can’t picture God loving you, there is no doubt in your mind that He loves that person.

If this is you… you’re missing it..

In God’s graciousness, none of us are as bad as we could be, and yet we’re all born sinners. Each one of us begins life at the same place, lost. Yet because of God’s great love, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place thus making us perfect. You heard me right, perfect. In this world, it can be easy for people to appear good. They may care for others, give to the poor and act nice, but without Jesus, they still need a Savior. This is what makes the Gospel the “good news”. While we could never be good enough to earn God’s love, He showed His love towards us anyway in the life, death and resurrection of His Son.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that Your love is not dictated by my good works but is freely given through Jesus. Help me to truly understand the power of the Gospel and to share it with those around me. Teach me through Your Word and guide me by Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
