July 16th 2016 – The Truth! Seek It for Yourself.

images-31.jpg

“For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them. “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.” (Matthew 13:15-16)

“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 2:14)

In a time where there is so much division in society, lies and twisted truthes are so prevalent. Its all designed to harden our hearts and keep us blind to the truth.

That is why the word of God is so very important to us. I encourage you to read your Bible every day, if you dont have one get one. Start by asking God to reveal Himself to you as the light of His word shines on your heart. The whole Bible speaks to us of Jesus – the Old and New Testament. To understand God’s plan of redemption, we consider all things in the Old Testament in the light of Jesus and the New Testament writers. The Old Testament points forward in time, preparing the way for the work of Christ which is described in the New Testament. Together they give us the greatest understanding of God’s amazing plan and the enduring truth of His word. I have always loved the following statement made by Saint Augustine around 400 AD

“The new is in the old concealed; the old is in the new revealed.” It highlights the remarkable way the two testaments of the Bible are so closely interrelated with each other.

“The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” (Psalm 119:160)

“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
(Jeremiah 29:13)

God says in His word that when we seek Him we will find Him when we search for Him with all of our heart. Do you need more of God’s light and love and strength and joy in your life? Dig into your Bible and seek Him with your whole heart. He will show you things you’ve never seen before and enlighten and renew your mind.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for Your word and the wonderful way You reveal Yourself to me in it. I want to know You more and love You more. Please help me commit my heart to seek You and grow in my understanding of who You are and how much You love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 15th 2016 – Danger! Beware of False Teachers

images-25

“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia – remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.” (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

In the body of Christ, we must be careful to guard ourselves against divisiveness and false teaching. These things will penetrate the body and can lead to sin as well as a misunderstanding of God’s Word. Often, those who come representing a “new way” or a “higher understanding” are deceived. Their doctrine is dependent upon human wisdom or even an evil motive. This is why many times throughout the scriptures the apostles warn against false teachers and bad doctrines.

Often, bad teaching comes from those who want to do it their own way. They are not content with God’s Word as the final authority so they twist it or reject it altogether. Don’t be deceived, this is dangerous. If we are to truly understand life, we need to look to the One who gave life. If we desire to know about this world, we must hold tight to the words of God who formed it. Most importantly, if we are to know how we can find forgiveness and eternal life, we have no other option than to embrace the Truth found in the Bible. When we live by God’s Words and not our own, we will find hope for this life and unending joy in the next.

“There is danger in living our lives by our own standards rather than God’s.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Bible. What a blessing it is to be able to read the very words of God. Father, guard my heart against false teaching and help me to stand firm on the Truth of Your Word. Hide Your Word in my heart so that I will not sin against You. Use me to share Your Word with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Invitation:

Have you ever eacknowledged Jesus as you Lord and Savior? If you do not know Him personally, I encourage you not to pass up the precious gift of His love and eternal life. Jesus died on the cross for you and me.

July 14th 2016 – Faith with Love

images-27

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.(Galatians 5:6)

Today in the process of life, you will communicate with many people and all will be going through something. Sometimes what they are going through can directly affect you and we can always come up with a reason not to love them. We are each unique. But our situations are not unique. In each of them, God calls us to love. In mariage, family, with friends and co-workers, there is never an excuse to not love. Jesus loved so much He died for us while we were sinners. Our faith in Him produces love for others. That love is what brings someone else to Jesus!

“Real faith produces real agape (supernatural, unconditional, long suffering) love.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me no matter what happens. Help me to trust you today and love others no matter what. Please use me to bring others to you for forgiveness. In Jesus name, Amen.

July 13th 2016 – A Heart of Appreciation and Grat itude

images-35

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Have you ever owed someone a debt that you couldn’t pay for a few days… maybe it was at school or at work? When you saw that person, what did you do? Ducked away and hid? You didn’t want to see them until all accounts were settled. Or maybe the shoe was on the other foot. Maybe you loaned a good friend some money, then you saw him or her and you knew they were avoiding you. They didn’t want to see you until they could pay you back. Some of you still feel like you owe God something, and because of that you have been ducking God, hiding from God. You’re like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden when God called out “Adam where are you?”

I look for a couple of realities in someone’s life to when they say they’re a Christian:

1) A love for the Lord and others.

2) A desire to tell others out of an appreciation for the Good News.

3) An appreciation and gratitude for the person, group or miniatry that led them to the Lord.

“We don’t owe a sin debt, we do owe a Good News debt.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for forgiving me. You cancelled all the debt I owe, I do not have to be ashamed. Please place in me a desire to tell others, and a grateful heart for those who led me to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 12th 2016 – Salvation From Death

2016-07-12-05-06-35--1816609666

“I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.” (Hosea 13:14 )

If you take a look back at the relationship with God and Israel, you will see a continual struggle. Like a parent to a child, God desires to care for Israel, and yet they continue to rebel against God. Throughout the book of Hosea and many other prophets, we hear God list the sins of His people. He clearly labels their mistakes in an effort to get their attention. In the passages of scripture, we also find the very heart of God, revealed through promises to His children.

In verse 14 of Hosea 13, God responds to Israel’s stubbornness with a mighty promise of salvation from death. God states that He will personally destroy the grave and in the process, He will save Israel. Of course, this promise is not just for the nation of Israel. God promises the same for anyone who would call upon His name. Regardless of our sin, God says that He will overcome death on our behalf. In fact, God has already overcome death and the grave through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Three days after Jesus entered the tomb, He stood victorious over the power of death. Jesus now holds the key to everlasting life and He will open the doors for us to live forever if we simply call out for His amazing grace.

“Christ’s love is deeper than any pit of sin. Do not grow weary trying to crawl out; look up to Christ & be free.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, believe You died for me so that I could be forgiven. I believe You were raised from the dead so that I could have new life. I know I’ve done wrong things, and I’m sorry. Please forgive me and give me the power to follow You all the days of my life. Amen

July 11th 2016 – Strengthen My Wisdom and Faith

2016-07-11-03-40-37-283792557

“So Esther answered, “If it pleases the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”
(Esther 5:4)

The book of Esther is an amazing book. While not mentioning the name of God, it clearly displays the work of God in the life of His people. Esther was one of those individuals who was given power and placed in a role to change history. Sometimes, we think that following God means random acts of faith. While faith is crucial, we must also remember that we are called to be wise in our actions.

In Esther 5, Esther is using great wisdom. She has a hard message to take to the King, but rather than blurt it out at the wrong time, she is preparing herself and the king for the important conversation. People say, “I don’t have to use wisdom, I am using faith.” God gives us wisdom, creativity and intelligence to use. Esther used the wisdom, guided by faith, to bring about amazing results for the people of Israel. Are you walking in wisdom? Do you consider all the options; make a plan of action for your life, ministry or family time? We all could be more like Esther, intentional in our actions and lead by God’s wisdom. Even today, let’s prepare ourselves for ministering to others and then step out with faith to get it done.

(Proverbs 9:10) “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy isunderstanding.”

“When we walk in faith, wisdom and boldness, incredible things can happen.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the Bible that helps me understand how I am to think and act. Help me to grow in wisdom and to be intentional with my life. Give me opportunities to step out in boldness to love, give and share my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 10th 2016 – For What Reason Have We Been Sent?

images-26

“Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?” (Acta 10:29)

Peter asks a thought-provoking question in this passage. Why am I here? I think this is a great question to ask ourselves. We may say we are here to serve and love God and to serve and love others, but if we never take the time to really do these things, how important are they to us? I believe it is important to ask ourselves this question often and make decisions according to these priorities. I know I am guilty of getting caught up in things that don’t really matter and disregarding the things that really do matter. I find myself “majoring on the minors and minoring on the majors.” Jesus broke it down for us when He said, “Love God and love others.” It really can’t be explained any simpler than that. We should remember that Jesus did something extraordinary. He loved us by giving His life away. In doing that, He has shown us how to love others.

The three things that will last forever. Faith, Hope And Love, and the Greatest of these is Love.

We should be asking ourselves the question, why am I here?

The top answers should be..

1) to love and serve God

2) to love and serve others

3) to show and tell others about Jesus

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Help me to remember what is important. I get confused about my priorities sometimes. Please remind me through Bible teaching, Bible reading and the love and care of others, why I am here. Help me to take the time to remember these things. When it’s all said and done, only what I have done for You will last. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 9th 2016 – Jesus Christ our Intercessor

images-17

“Then the Angel of the LORD answered and said, “O LORD of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry these seventy years?” (Zachariah 1:12)

In the book of Zechariah, God pulls back the veil as the prophet records a vision he receives from the Lord. In this image, we see the pre-incarnate Christ atop a horse in the midst of myrtle trees. This alone would be a wonderful sight to behold but what happens next is amazing! You see, as Christ is amidst the myrtles, He begins interceding on behalf of Israel. He cries out to God the Father asking for His mercy. What an amazing picture of grace. The people of Israel, with no voice of their own, see their Messiah speaking on their behalf. This amazing interaction still occurs to this day.

(Hebrews 7:25) “Therefore he (Jesus) is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

As we trust in Christ for forgiveness, we don’t just receive a one time stamp and then get tossed to the side to fend for ourselves. No, our King stands before the Father interceding for us. While Satan may try and accuse us, our Lord Jesus stands between him and the Father and proclaims us forgiven. What an amazing Gospel. What an amazing Lord.

“You have a great intercessor and His name is Jesus.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You now because of what Jesus has done. Because He went to the cross, died and was raised again, I can have forgiveness of sins. And because of His intercession, I know that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Armed with this Truth, may I be used to share the Gospel with others so they may know the amazing love of Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Invitation:

Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

The Bible promises eternal life to all who receive Christ: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13)

If you have not asked Jesus into your lifeYou can receive Jesus Christ right now by faith through prayer.

Prayer is just talking with God. He knows your heart, so don’t worry about getting your words just right. Here is a suggested prayer to guide you:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.

If you have done this, then congratulations!

(Luke 15:7) says that when one sinner accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Saviour the angels rejoice. So there’s a party going on in heaven right now over your decision! Remember this date as your “second birthday,” the day you were born into a new life in Christ! You have God’s Word that he answered your prayer.

July 7th 2016 – Confess Your Sins to God

2016-07-07-05-08-49--1188776191

“Behold, I am against you,” says the LORD of hosts; “I will lift your skirts over your face, I will show the nations your nakedness, And the kingdoms your shame.”(Nahum 3:5)

In the last chapter of Nahum, God brings several charges against the city of Nineveh. One of these charges is their involvement in harlotry and sorcery. These two lifestyles thrive in the dark corners of society and desire to accomplish personal fulfillment with ungodliness. So what is God’s plan to punish those involved? He is simply going to expose their sinfulness to everyone.

In our own lives, I believe we fear this more than anything else. We fear the thought of being “found out”. God already knows our sins. There is nothing we can do to hide them from His perfect gaze, but there is good news. He desires to forgive us of those sins and all we need to do is be honest. When we come to God fully confessing our faults and failures to Him, He will wipe them away. On the other hand, if we try to hide our sins from Him, one day they will make it to the surface for all to see. Today, rather than hiding your sins, come to God, confess and watch as your burden is lifted. Experience the fresh forgiveness of your Heavenly Father.

“The cost of hidden sin is shame and exposure.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come to You this morning to confess my sins to You. You tell me in the Bible that if I confess to You, You will wipe away all my sins and so I come this day asking for Your forgiveness. Continue to change my heart and make me more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 6th 2016 – Discover a Life Worth Living?

images-18

“For it makes no difference whether or not a man has been circumcised. The important thing is to keep God’s commandments.” (1 Corinthians 7:19)

We all have unique talents and abilities that God wants to use for His glory. Your act of love for God is expressed when you serve and keep His commandments. Don’t be dissatisfied with your giftings, but obey God and walk in them.

Serving God with your gifts and obeying His commandments should be a high priority in the life of the believer. This is not to say that you are under the law, but because of His amazing love for you, you can respond in love by serving others with your talents. While you are not trying to earn your righteousness, you should desire to be obedient to Him. Not because you are earning your salvation, but because you love Him.

(1 John 5:2-3) “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”

You are to love God with all of your heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37). Serving and obeying God should not be burdensome because He loved you first. When I bring a gift to my wife, I do not do so because I am married. I do this out of love. In the same way, show your love and affection for God by being committed to witness, read the Bible, pray and love others.

Do you express your love to God by serving Him and others? Remember how God told us to discover a life worth living? Feel safe and secure in the arms of God’s redeeming power and undeniable love. Step out in obedience to Him and share the hope and love of God to this cold, dark world that does not have anything worth living for and sure does not offer anything worth dying for.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love that sets me free when I ask you to forgive me of my sins. Thank You for allowing me to come to You. I thank You for the talents and abilities You have given to me. Forgive me where I have envied someone else’s gifts while neglecting to use my own gifts. Help me to be grateful for the call You have for my life so that I can discover purpose and meaning the way You intended. Lord, thank You for Your patience with me. Help me bring hope to a lost and dying world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
