August 5th 2016 – God’s Love is Eternal and Never Fails

“Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.” (1 Corinthians 13:8)

Have you ever thought about love in the light of eternity? One day all that we know here on earth will be changed. When Christ appears in all His glory, heaven will come to earth and our lives, homes, bodies and relationships will change forever. Yet, there is one thing that will never change. That thing is love. When we see Christ face to face, we will no longer need faith. As we glimpse the realities of heaven all around us, we will no longer cling to hope of a better day. But love will never disappear. The love that created the world and gave life to humanity will still sustain the saints in heaven. The love that walked out of heaven and went to the cross is the same love that prepared a place for us for all eternity. And, the same love that strengthens us in this life is the same love that welcomes us into the next. This love never fails, never wavers and never grows weary. This love is the love of God.

(1 John 4:19) “We love Him because He first loved us.”

Because this love will always remain, let us begin loving even now. We will spend eternity with our brothers and sisters in Christ, so why not love them now? As we love each other with the love given to us through Christ, the world will see it and desire the same. When they do, we can point them to the never-ending source of love, Jesus.

“Love releases the power of the Spirit in our lives and in our churches.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the love You have shown me. Help me to love others in the same way You have loved me. Use me today to share the love of God with someone I see. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 4th 2016 – Sharing Your Faith

“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Sharing our faith is critical for every Christian. After all, this is what Jesus commands us to do, and if we have been changed by the Gospel, why wouldn’t we want to share it? That being said, we are never called to be combative in sharing the Truth. We are to be bold and unwavering in speaking the Truth, but we should do so in meekness and respect.

When Peter is writing in the book of 1 Peter, he is talking to a church that is suffering. It would make sense that they would want to stand up and fight off those who are oppressing them, yet Peter calls for them to endure persecution with a readiness to share their faith. Not just share, but for them to do so in a gentle and respectful way. Peter says, “Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.”
(1 Peter 3:16 partial)

A peaceable life, matched with a powerful message has the power to bring conviction and repentance. So friend, love others in such a way that even when you share hard truths, they will see your good works and glorify God.

Persecution is not an excuse to be mean-spirited or combative. Christians are called to suffer with meekness so that others may see their life and be saved.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for salvation. I desire to share Jesus with everyone even though I know that may lead to persecution. Help me to be bold yet loving as I share the Good News of the Gospel with a hurting world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 3rd 2016 – Equipped by God Alone!

“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.” (1 Timothy 1:12-13)

“Why would God use me?” “I’ve done terrible things in my past so how can I minister to others?” We’ve all been there and have stood on the edge of a ministry opportunity facing doubts and fears. “What if they don’t believe me?”,”I don’t have a theology degree?”,”What do I know?” All these questions and thoughts cloud our perspective and leave us unmoved and powerless — unless we grab hold of the Truth.

(2 Corinthians 3:5) “It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.”

Yes, we are weak vessels. Yes, we may stumble at times, but our power does not lie inside ourselves. Our power comes from the One who created heaven and earth. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that fills us as followers of Christ. It is God who equips us and strengthens us for ministry. Whether you are a full time pastor or a volunteer at the church, or a missionary. God is the One equipping you to impact lives for eternity. Admit your weaknesses and then step out in faith trusting the power of the One who has saved you. In Him, you will find victory over fear and power to reach a lost and dying world with the Gospel.

“When the Lord calls you into ministry, He alone equips you.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the salvation found in Jesus Christ. I praise You for the forgiveness of sins and the new life. Lord, help me to overcome my fears or doubts. Empower me to step out in faith into ministry wherever I am today. Use me to reach this lost world for Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 2nd 2016 – The Power to Decide

“Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.” (Ezra 10:4)

God may be the director of the universe, but He has given us power to decide. You have a decision to confess your sins to Him and to ask for His forgiveness. You have a decision whether to serve the Lord, give to the Lord or share the Gospel with others. No matter who you are, you have an opportunity to change the world through your decisions.

(Joshua 24:15) “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

As you read this devotional, there is a world filled with people who desire peace. They desire love. They desire hope in something greater than the economy, the president or their own ability. As a follower of Christ, we can make the decision to share with them how to change their life and those things by sharing the Gospel. We can serve them. We can offer them our time, resources and compassion. God will empower us to do mighty things, but we must decide to do it. Choose this day who you will serve, and do it!

” Even though the government seems to wants us to feel lost and out of control. You are not helpless or hopeless. Your destiny is in your hands and in the hands of a God that loves you and wants to bless and protect you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I desire to choose You above everything else. I decide this day to serve You and to serve others. Give me a heart of compassion and a willingness to think of others before myself. God, use me to change the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

August 1st 2016 – God Still Heals and Restores

“Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.” (Acts 19:11-12)

In this verse, we see that it is God who works the miracles out among people, not Paul. This is an interesting section of scripture that some have twisted for their own monetary gain in the selling of such items as prayer cloths and other “miracle producing items”. The miracles were not from the handkerchiefs nor from Paul, but from God. These were merely the instruments God used. We should desire to be God’s instrument. God used unexpected means to restore health to those who were ill.

The Bible is a supernatural book. Jesus, our leader who died and didn’t stay dead, offers us eternal life. While this passage is not a model for ministry, it does demonstrate that God can work through various unconventional means to draw people to Him. God used Paul to heal people then, and God still uses people today. Did God use Paul to heal everyone that he came across? No. Some were healed and some were not. Remember, Paul prayed for God to heal him and apparently Paul was not healed. We should pray for God to heal others and even expect God to heal them while trusting in His will.

(2 Corinthians 12:8-9) “Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

God said to Paul, “I am not going to heal you but give you the grace to get through it.” Sometimes God doesn’t heal us and take us out of our situation or condition, but He gives us the strength to go through it. When He heals, we can give Him the glory. When He doesn’t, we are made stronger in our walk with Him.

“God can and still does heal people.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for giving me the strength to endure the difficulties of this world. Please help me to keep my focus on You and not on those difficulties. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 31st 2016 – Be Honest, Be Real!

“I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.” (1 Corinthians 2:3)

Paul is being very honest in this verse. He is not trying to make himself look better than he really is. He isn’t covering up his weakness. In fact, in 1 Timothy 1:16 Paul proclaims that he is an example of God’s longsuffering. He is not a perfect man but a perfect example of God’s loving-kindness, grace and mercy.

At times, Christians act like we don’t have any problems. The problem with this is that it leaves an impression to those who don’t know Jesus. They see Christians pretending they are not messed up and assume that since they still struggle with problems, they don’t belong in church. In doing so, are we proclaiming God’s goodness or our own?

We need to proclaim God’s goodness by being open about our problems and proclaiming that it is the goodness of God that saves! That’s being real. It’s real life, demonstrating the real love and real hope of the real God. In your weakness, the Good News of Jesus Christ is made strong.

“We should be real with people and not portray some False Spirituality”

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for the forgiveness of my sins and for giving me the opportunity to experience life more abundantly. Lord, thank You for revealing Yourself to me through Your Word. I want the offer of joy, hope and peace that only You can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 30th 2016 – We Can Change the World!

“We sailed from there, and the next day came opposite Chios. The following day we arrived at Samos and stayed at Trogyllium. The next day we came to Miletus.” (Acts 20:15)

Are you changing the world or is the world changing you? You see, the world can change you into something you don’t like or want to be. It takes deliberate effort not to allow the world to change you. With God, you can go somewhere different with your life. If you partner with God, you will see yourself and the world changed. Because of those serving God and serving others, the world is not the same today as it was yesterday. Are you participating? If you are, then you are making a difference. If not, then you need to make some changes.

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21)

Notice what Jesus said. He didn’t say, “Well done good and faithful spectator,” and He didn’t say, “Well done good and faithful church critic.” Start the changes today. God gives you the choice. You can live the way He created you to live, or you can live selfishly and miss out on a lot of awesome things the Lord wants to lead you in. It is your choice. No one can make the choice except you. If Gods’ way is the best way, let’s live like that. God has shown us how we should live. So, what’s it going to be? The choices we make today will shape who we are forever. Let’s follow God and play a part in restoring and redeeming a fallen, broken and hurting world. Let’s live to be all that God intended us to be. Let’s live to see the changes that we want to see in the world. Go for it. Live for God and God will take care of the details. Trust Him to do what He said He would do. May we live to be what He created us to be…messengers of His mercy, His grace, His truth and His love. The book of Acts doesn’t really end, it’s still going on. We are the next chapter in Acts. We are Acts 29.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for allowing me to play a part in redeeming and restoring this fallen, broken and hurting world. Lord, I do not want to be a spectator Christian. Please lead me in what Your will is for my life and give me the ears to hear what You would say. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 29th 2016 – Love One Another

2016-07-28-23-17-03-2012797156

“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” (Romans 13:8)

The law tells us not to do anything bad. Love says to do something good. We are all in love-debt to one another. When does it end? Never – We should always owe one another love.

(Matthew 22:37-40) “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

God is the initiator. “We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Now, it’s our turn to be initiators of love – love starters. Love is a commitment. Do things that demonstrate your love for others. Help others rack up their love-debt. Look at everything you do and question whether it’s out of love. You might find you need to make some adjustments. Let’s kick Christianity up a notch and take following Jesus and loving people to a whole new level.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love, for Your grace and for Your mercy. Lord, You freely give these things to me. Help me to also be quick to show love, grace and mercy to others. Please forgive me for times when I have hoarded Your love to myself instead of opening it up to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

July 28th 2016 – Where You Are

images-32

“For if I am an offender, or have committed anything deserving of death, I do not object to dying; but if there is nothing in these things of which these men accuse me, no one can deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.” (Acts 25:11)

What does God see when he looks at you? He sees you clearly right where you are. God knows your potential. He created you. He knows the gifts and talents that He has given you. God knows how He wants to use you to love and serve Him and others. Sometimes God will use things in our lives that we least expect Him to use. In Acts 25, we see God using Paul’s Roman citizenship to give him the opportunity to preach the Gospel before King Agrippa and a huge audience in the amphitheater at Caesarea. Like Paul, God is able to use you to do incredible things right where you are. No gift or talent is too big or too small. No circumstance too dire, God can use it.

Do you want to be used by God? You can start right where you are in your home, workplace and in your church. How are you serving God today? How will you be serving God a month from now or even a year from now? I want to encourage you to start serving God right where you are. God has got an awesome adventure planned for you; a miraculous mission lies waiting for you if you choose to accept your mission. God will use you in ways you never thought possible.

“God wants to work through you right where you are with what you have right now.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for the gifts, talents and circumstances You have given me. I commit to using my gifts to glorify You… starting today. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen

July 27th 2016 – One of a Kind

images-36

“I am giving you a promise now while the seed is still in the barn. You have not yet harvested your grain, and your grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, and olive trees have not yet produced their crops. But from this day onward I will bless you.” (Haggai 2:29)

If you found yourself on trial as a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict you? This poignant question is good for us to ask because it causes us to assess our walk with the Lord. While this is helpful, be careful not to fall into the trap believing that all Christians look the same.

We all have trusted in Jesus for salvation, but the work He has for us is often different. Look around you. Is there someone hurting or in need of God’s Truth? What are your skills or spiritual gifts? Are you using them for the glory of God? You see, each of us is created to glorify God, but we all do that in different ways. Each of us is at a different level in our Christian walk but we are all walking with the same person, Jesus. So this morning, look at your life and ask God to show you how you can show Him to others in a way that only you can. He’s saved you. He’s equipped you with your unique special gifts. Celebrate that your one of a kind.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for creating me the way that You have. Each aspect of me is part of Your creative Spirit. I pray that You show me how I can use my gifts for Your glory and for the furthering of the Gospel. Help me to walk outside my door and be ready to engage those around me for Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
