November 14th 2025 – The Power of the Holy Spirit

Scripture Reading:

“And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 8:18-19)

Reflection:

In this passage, we encounter Simon, a man who saw the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit being given through the apostles. His immediate response was to offer money in exchange for this divine gift. This moment reveals a profound misunderstanding of the nature of God’s power. Simon believed he could buy something that was meant to be a free gift—a gift that is not for personal gain or to elevate oneself but is intended to be used for the glory of God and the good of others.

Simon’s desire for power stemmed from a need for validation and recognition. He wished to impress others, to elevate his status within the community. However, the true purpose of the power of God is not to showcase our abilities or to draw attention to ourselves; rather, it is to enable us to live out our faith authentically and to serve those around us. The gifts of the Spirit are given to edify the church and to reach out to a world in need, not to fulfill personal ambitions.

Throughout the Scriptures, we see Jesus exemplifying the perfect use of divine power. He healed the sick, comforted the brokenhearted, and offered hope to the hopeless. His miracles were never about spectacle; they were about transformation and love. Jesus demonstrated that true power lies in serving others, in being a vessel through which God’s love can flow. As followers of Christ, we are called to emulate this model.

Reflect on your own desires for power or influence. Why do you seek it? Is it to bless and uplift those around you? The gifts and resources we have been given are not merely for our benefit but are meant to be shared. As good stewards of God’s grace, we should aim to use our talents, time, and treasures to make a difference in the lives of others.

Consider the impact we can have on our communities and families when we choose to use our resources for God’s purposes. Each act of kindness, each word of encouragement, and each moment spent serving others can reflect the love of Christ. Our lives can testify to the transformative power of God, showing that we are not just recipients of grace but also conduits of that grace to the world.

The Holy Spirit Gives Us Limitless Power

Let us strive to remember that the power we receive through the Holy Spirit is not for self-glorification but for the advancement of God’s kingdom. It is through our willingness to serve and bless others that we truly live out our faith.

“True strength is not found in the power we possess, but in the love we share and the lives we touch.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the many blessings You have bestowed upon me. All the good things in my life—my strength, my wisdom, and every opportunity—are gifts from Your generous hand. I recognize that I am called to be a steward of these gifts, and I desire to use my power, strength, and resources to reach a lost and dying world.

Lord, just as Jesus cared deeply for those around Him, help me to cultivate that same love and compassion within my heart. Teach me to see the needs of others and inspire me to respond with grace and generosity. May I use the gifts You have given me wisely, not for personal gain or recognition, but to uplift and encourage those in need.

As I navigate my daily life, remind me of the importance of being a vessel for Your love and power. Help me to reflect Your character in all that I do, demonstrating Your kindness and mercy to those I encounter. May my actions point others to You, showing them the hope and transformation that comes from a relationship with Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

As we go forth today, let us commit to living out the power of the Holy Spirit in ways that honor God and serve others. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the here and now, impacting lives for eternity.
