June 18th 2025 – Who or What Do You Worship?

“You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to become distracted by the many things vying for our attention and affection. The question we must ask ourselves today is, “Who or what do you worship?” Worship is not just about singing songs on a Sunday morning; it’s about what we value most in our lives. It’s about what takes precedence over everything else, what we turn to for comfort, fulfillment, and purpose.

For many, the allure of drugs or alcohol can be a tempting escape from the pressures of life. The fleeting pleasure they provide can often feel like a refuge, but these substances can never fill the void that only Christ can satisfy. They may promise happiness but ultimately lead to despair and separation from the One who loves us most.

Then there’s money, power, and career—often viewed as symbols of success in our society. It’s easy to chase after promotions, wealth, and status, thinking they will bring us happiness. Yet, in the end, they are mere shadows compared to the joy and peace found in a relationship with Jesus. As He reminds us in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters.” Our hearts cannot be divided; they must be fully devoted to Him.

Possessions, too, can easily take the place of our Savior. We can become so consumed by the pursuit of material wealth that we forget the true riches found in knowing and serving Christ. The latest gadget, the biggest house, or the trendiest clothes will never offer the lasting satisfaction that comes from a life centered on Jesus.

Even our relationships can become idols. While spouses and loved ones are blessings from God, placing them above our relationship with Christ can lead to disappointment and a lack of fulfillment. The truth is, no person—be it a spouse, a celebrity, or a political leader—can ever take the place of Jesus in our hearts.

So, why is it not Jesus? Perhaps we’ve allowed ourselves to be distracted, or we’ve sought fulfillment in temporary things. Maybe we fear what it means to surrender fully to Him, or we doubt His goodness and faithfulness. But Jesus invites us into a relationship of trust and love, assuring us that He is more than enough.

Take a moment to examine your heart. What occupies the highest place in your life? Is it time to reassess your priorities? Are there things you need to let go of to make room for Jesus?

“As you go about your day, remember that true worship is an active choice. Choose Jesus, for He is the way, the truth, and the life.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me to recognize the things in my life that I’ve allowed to take Your place. Teach me to worship You above all else, to find my identity and worth in You alone. Cleanse my heart, and draw me closer to You. I surrender my distractions and my desires to You, trusting that in You, I will find true joy and fulfillment. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
