“But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” (Jeremiah 20:9)
Being “on fire for the Lord” is more than just an expression; it’s a passionate commitment to live out our faith boldly and authentically. Jeremiah, the prophet, experienced this divine fire within him—a compelling urge to share God’s message, even when faced with opposition and suffering. His words remind us that when God’s truth ignites our hearts, it cannot be contained.
This fire is fueled by our relationship with God through prayer, worship, and the study of His Word. In moments of intimacy with the Father, our hearts are stirred, and we are reminded of His goodness, love, and power. Just as a fire spreads warmth and light, so too does our passion for Christ radiate to those around us.
When we are on fire for the Lord, we become vessels of His love and truth. Our enthusiasm can inspire others, leading them to seek the source of our hope. It challenges us to step outside our comfort zones, to serve those in need, to share the gospel, and to be a light in the darkness.
However, maintaining this fervor requires intentionality. Life’s challenges, distractions, and weariness can dampen our spiritual flame. We must regularly feed our fire through consistent prayer, fellowship with other believers, and acts of service.
Spend a few moments in silence, asking God to reveal any areas of your life where your fire for Him may have dimmed. Write down one or two steps you can take this week to stoke that fire and share it with others.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, ignite a fire in my heart that cannot be extinguished. Help me to grow in my relationship with You, so that Your love and truth overflow from my life. Give me the courage to share Your message and to serve others with passion and joy. May my life be a testimony of Your grace and power. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
